Abstract

Star fruits (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) from family of oxalidaceae is a plant which has potential as an antibacterial Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Flavonoid are the active compounds from the extract of star fruit which has potential as an antibacterial. Star fruit were extracting by ethanol 96 % using maceration. Extract were identified using thin layer chromatography (TLC) with eluent analytic n-butanol- glacial acetic acid- water (6:1:3). Preparative isolation using thin layer chromatography resulting three bands. Each band was centrifuged to obtain isolates. Physics isolates were analyzing using spectrophotometer UV Vis and chemically using color test (shift reagent). UV Vis spectrum results with shift reagent from isolates 1, suspected as isoflavone compound with OH groups in position 6,7,4 and OH groups in O- ring A, in isolates 2 was not flavonoid compound and predicted as other polyphenolic compound and in isolates 3 suspected of flavone compound with OH groups in position 5,6,7 and OH groups in O-ring A

Abstract

One of the plants that are often used in traditional medicine is the fruit of pumpkin used to treat hepatitis manner pumpkin fruit cut into small pieces and then steamed, then eaten .Pumpkin fruits contain active compounds such as saponins, tannins, flavonoids and beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is converted in the body into vitamin A is beneficial for the growth, maintenance of body tissues and to reduce the risk of cancer and heart disease. This study aims to determine pumpkin juice has a hepatoprotective activities on liver function by looking at parameters SGPT and SGOT in rats after induced CCl4. Type of experimental research using True Experimental research design design. Test animals were grouped into 5 groups, each group consisting of 3 rats. The first group of positive control (Methicol®), the second group negative control (CCl4), the third group of pumpkin juice 25%, the fourth group of pumpkin juice 50%, the fifth group of pumpkin juice 75%. From the results of this study concluded that the pumpkin juice 75% effective as a hepatoprotective by looking at parameters SGPT is 48 U/liter and SGOT is 66 U/liter in rats after induced carbon tetrachloride

Abstract

Eel is one kind of fish which contain albumin. Albumin is useful in the formation of new body tissue during growth and can accelerate the healing of body tissue. This study aimed to determine levels of albumin in the eels (Anguilla marmorata and Anguilla bicolor) as well as its effect of open wound healing tested at various concentrations. The albumin levels were determined using Bromocresol green method with three times repetition. The results showed that average albumin levels of Anguilla marmorata was 13,269 mg/100 g and Anguilla bicolor was 8,998 mg/100 g. Eel extract with the highest level of albumin was continued to pharmacological tests using 5 rabbits which had been open-wounded in 5 areas. Each rabbit was then given 5 treatments. The first two rabbits got positive control containing povidone iodine and negative control (ointment base), while the other three got albumin extract successively at concentration of 5%, 10% and 15%. The wounds were observed on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, and 14. The data analysis for albumin levels was done using Independent T test and for open wound healing percentage using One Way ANOVA. The analysis results showed a significant difference of albumin levels between Anguilla marmorata and Anguilla bicolor and it found that the highest level of albumin was in Anguilla marmorata species. The effective extract concentration of albumin in wound healing was at concentration of 5% with wound healing percentage of up to 100%

Abstract

Whitening cream is a mixture of chemicals and other materials to eliminate the the black spots on the skin. The purpose of this research was to determine whether unregistered facial whitening creams that contain mercury (Hg) and to determine the amount of mercury (Hg) levels of the facial whitening creams have circulated in the Inpres Market Palu. There are 10 samples were examined of facial whitening cream by using Purposive Sampling method. The testing of mercury content is divided into two stages first stage is qualitative testing (color test) and the second stage is quantitative testing atomic absorption Spectrophotometry using additional tools MVU (Mercury Vaporizer Unit). The result of the research show that all of 10 the samples contained mercury (Hg) with an average content of each sample A = 67,27 µg/g , B = 5349,47 µg/g, C = 137,49 µg/g, D = 159,25 µg/g, E = 90,22 µg/g, F = 33,61 µg/g, G = 31,87 µg/g, H = 32,36 µg/g, I = 3,63 µg/g and J = 3,52 µg/g.
