Abstract

This research focuses on the form, function, and meaning of perlocution speech between characters in the novel "Kretek Girl" by Ratih Kumala. The purpose of this study is to describe the perlocution speech that occurs in the novel, including the stages of exploration, peak, and dissolution. The data analyzed was in the form of dialogue quotes containing perlocution speech in the novel "Kretek Girl". The method used is qualitative descriptive, with data analysis presented descriptively. This study refers to John L. Austin's theory of perlocutive speech as the basis for the analysis. The results of the study showed that there were 16 forms of perlocutive speech, such as telling, calming, asking, convincing, anxiety, promise, suggestion, confirming, affirming, offering, prohibition, invitation, praise, small talk, worry or feeling afraid, and threats. The effects caused by this act of speech are varied, including not carrying out orders, refusing, carrying out orders, accepting invitations, receiving suggestions, and not taking action.

Abstract

This research using qualitative research aims to determine the types of initial reading barriers in language sounds, factors that influence initial reading barriers, and how to overcome initial reading barriers in grade 1 students at GMIT Oesapa Elementary School. This type of research is a case study. The subjects of this research were 19 students. Data collection was carried out using observation techniques, interviews and documentation studies. The collected data was analyzed using qualitative descriptive analysis. This research obtained results that there were 19 students and 3 students experienced obstacles in beginning reading. This research process began with observations with the class I teacher, then carried out tests directly on students, then after the aspects of difficulty were known, students were observed who experienced obstacles in beginning reading. Barriers to beginning reading among grade I students at GMIT Oesapa Elementary School range from difficulty in identifying letters, reversing letters, difficulty in recognizing the meaning of words, lack of understanding of the content of the reading, halting spelling, and difficulty in understanding and listening to the text being read.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “ Campur Kode dalam WhatsApp Group Himpunan Mahasiswa PBSI Asal Manggarai. Rumusan masalah yang terdapat dalam penelitian ini adalah bagaimanakah bentuk penggunaan campur kode dalam WhatsApp group himpunan mahasiswa PBSI asal Manggarai dan apa saja faktor yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya campur kode dalam WhatsApp group himpunan mahasiswa PBSI asal Manggarai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan bentuk penggunaan campur kode dalam WhatsApp group himpunan mahasiswa PBSI asal Manggarai, dan mendeskripsikan faktor pendukung yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya campur kode dalam WhatsApp group himpunan mahasiswa PBSI asal Manggarai. Penelitian ini berlandasakan pada teori sosiolinguistik yang menempatkan kedudukan bahasa dalam hubungan dengan pemakainya di masyarakat. Metode penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif yakni data yang diperoleh berupa kata-kata dan bukan dalam bentuk angka-angka yang dimana peneliti membaca percakapan dalam WhatsApp group, mencatat chat/percakapan yang mengandung campur kode, melakukukan wawancara dengan penutur, dokumentasi, serta membuat kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa dalam percakapan WhatsApp group tersebut menunjukan adanya peristiwa campur kode (code mixing) tepatnya campur kode ke dalam (inner code mixing). Terdapat 26 data percakapan yang mengandung campur kode ke dalam yang berbentuk 1) kata, 2) frasa, 3) klausa, dan 4) kalimat. Faktor yang melatarbelakangi terjadinya campur kode dalam WhatsApp group tersebut yaitu: 1) faktor kebiasaan, 2) faktor ingin mempertegas dan memperjelas sesuatu, 3) faktor situasi, 4) faktor ingin meningkatkan keakrabaan.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to describe the form and function of teacher's directive speech acts in Indonesian language learning class VII E at SMP N 9 Kupang City. The research subject subjected to the action was VII E at SMP N 9 Kupang City. The research approach used in this study is a qualitative approach that is descriptive in nature to collect data on language use, especially the language of Indonesian teachers' directive speech in Indonesian language learning inclass VII E of SMPN 9 Kupang City. Data collection techniques use observation, interview, and documentation techniques to observe directly, interview sources and document the data collected. data analysis techniques are carried out with qualitative description techniques. The results of the research obtained about the Forms and Functions of Teachers' Directive Speech Acts in Class VIII Indonesian Language Learning at SMPN 09 Lebong Tengah in the 2024/2025 academic year, the following conclusions were obtained. First, the form of directive speech acts includes 6 speech acts. The directive speech acts are command, request, invitation, advice, criticism, and prohibition. The forms of the six directive speech acts are almost all used by Indonesian language teachers when teaching class VIII at SMPN 9 Kupang City, but during the learning process from the beginning to the end, the speech acts most often used by Indonesian language teachers in class VIII are directive speech acts of orders, requests, and directive speech acts of invitation. Second, the functions of directive speech acts found in Indonesian language learning class VIII at SMPN 9 Kupang City are 21 functions of directive speech acts. The functions of directive speech acts found in this study include: 8 functions of directive speech acts of command, 4 functions of speech acts of request, 1 function of speech acts of invitation, 2 functions of directive speech acts of advice, 2 functions of directive speech acts of criticism, and 2 functions of speech acts of prohibition

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Canva application in improving the writing skills of 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Kupang in creating local food posters. The research method used is Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a qualitative and quantitative approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, and analysis of students' interview results. Based on Table 1, there are four groups: Orchid, Tulip, Frangipani, and Rose. The average score of all groups is 70%, with a completion rate of 77.27%. The group that ranked first with a score of 80 is the Orchid group, consisting of students with the code names EM, KA, AM, FT, and JM. The second place is shared by the Tulip and Rose groups, both scoring 70. The Tulip group includes PK, EB, IK, MB, YB, and ES, while the Rose group includes DH, ZM, AL, AN, and NL. The group in the last position is the Frangipani group, with a score of 60, consisting of DP, BL, A, DA, TB, and CK. The study concludes that students' learning outcomes after receiving the material are still relatively low, with only 17 students achieving the passing criteria, while 5 students have not yet met the criteria, resulting in an overall completion rate of 77.27%. Thus, the overall average score indicates that the use of the Canva application to enhance the writing skills of 10th-grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Kupang falls into the "good" category.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the form, function and meaning of illocutionary speech acts in communication between the landlady and the boarders in the Berlian Boarding House environment. Communication established in the boarding house environment is not only functional, but also reflects complex and dynamic social relationships. This research uses descriptive qualitative approach with observation and interview method to the landlady and some boarders who live in Berlian Boarding House. The results show that there are five types of illocutionary speech acts used, namely assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declarative. Assertive speech acts dominate in the form of orders or appeals from boarding mothers to boarding students, while boarding students often use expressive speech acts as a form of respect and courtesy. 2. The functions of illocutionary speech acts in the communication between the boarding house mother and the boarding house children in the Berlian boarding house environment include the functions of telling, boasting, asserting, stating, admitting, complaining, reporting, showing, mentioning, ordering, requesting, prohibiting, advising, pleading, offering, promising, refusing, thanking, apologizing, congratulating, granting and allowing. The function of these speech acts is not only as a means of communication, but also as a means of maintaining harmony and building positive social relations between boarders. The meaning of speech acts that arise is strongly influenced by the context of the situation, social relations, and speech culture that applies in the boarding house environment.

Abstract

This research focuses on the forms and meanings of the Indonesian language teacher’s ironical expressions toward students of grades X, XI, and XII at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang. The aim of this study is to identify and describe the forms of ironical expressions used by the Indonesian language teacher toward the students. The data analyzed consists of utterances or communicative interactions made by the Indonesian language teacher at SMA Negeri 2 Kupang during the learning process. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data analysis presented descriptively. This study is based on the stylistics theory of Gorys Keraf as the foundation for analysis. The research findings reveal four forms of ironical expressions, including irony, sarcasm, cynicism, and antiphrasis. The meanings of these expressions generally include both denotative and connotative meanings, containing criticism, warnings, and reprimands.

Abstract

This study is entitied "Analysis of the Use of Slang Language in Conversation among Students in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program (Sociolinguistic Study)". This study aims to determine how slang language is used in conversations among students in the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Study Program at Nusa Cendana University Kupang. The theory used in this research is Sociolinguistic Theory. The method used in this research is qualitative method. Data collection techniques used in this research are interview, documentation, note-taking, and voice recording techniques. Based on the data and research results obtained, there are 21 forms of slang language utterances divided into five analyses, namely: 5 forms of abbreviation (mo, su, bro, kek and gimana), 6 forms of acronyms (WA, HP, PHP, BTW, SKS and OMG), 4 forms of acronyms (curhat, matkul, mager and maba), 4 forms of inversion (kuy, takis, woles and sabi), and 2 forms of creative language (gabut and rempong).

Abstract

The focus of this research is "How is the role of teachers in developing dialogue skills for grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Kupang through the use of role-playing methods. The purpose of this study is to find out and describe the role of teachers in developing dialogue skills of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Kupang through the use of role-playing methods. The theory used is Information Processing Theory, because what is measured in this study is the role of a teacher in developing dialogue skills with students. The method used in this study is qualitative descriptive. In this study, the researcher selected material dialogue skills using a role-playing method in accordance with of the Independent Curriculum found Revition Edition grade VII in the odd semester phase D 7.3.1 Conveying ideas, thoughts, views, directions, or messages for the purpose of proposing, solving problems, and providing solutions orally in the form of monologues and dialogues logically, ,critical, and creatively. The Role-Playing method is a method used in language learning, especially learning dialogue skills. Based on the results of the analysis conducted on only teachers Indonesia Language and 24 students in grades VII-C of SMP Negeri 7 Kupang, the role of teachers in developing dialogue skills of grade VII students of SMP Negeri 7 Kupang through the use of role-playing methods can be said to be ineffective. These results can be seen from the percentage success rate of 64.58% of students who are unable to dialogue using the role-playing method, namely the achievement of scores ranging from 70-100. Students who are said to have completed or exceeded the KKM amounted to 8 people with a percentage of 33.33%, while students who did not complete amounted to 16 people with a percentage of 66.66%.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the ability to write procedural texts in class V of GMIT Oepura Elementary School through the application of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) Method. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research procedure was carried out with pre-cycle activities then continued with cycles I and II on 22 research subjects. The data collection techniques used were interview techniques, observation, test techniques and documentation. The results of the cycle I study showed that the activities of educators and students obtained an average value of 61,36 and 51,25 so that both were classified as sufficient and lacking criteria. Furthermore, in the second cycle of learning, the activities of educators in the classroom had increased, namely the value of the educator's observation of 84,09 with the criteria of Good (B) and the average test results of students were 87.39% with the criteria of Very Good (SB). In cycle II, educators tried to improve previous learning so that the completeness of students in cycle II increased with the percentage of completeness of student learning outcomes reaching 100%, it can be concluded that using the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) learning method can improve students' writing skills.
