Abstract

This study is motivated by the low early reading ability of first-grade students at SD Negeri Naikoten 2, where only 5 out of 27 students demonstrated good reading skills, while the remaining 22 were classified as low. The objective of the study is to improve early reading ability through the use of letter card media. A qualitative method was employed, with data collected through observation, interviews, tests, and documentation. Pre-cycle results showed that only 4 students (15%) met the competency standard, while 23 students (85%) did not. After implementing letter card media in Cycle I, the number of students who met the standard increased to 17 (63%), and in Cycle II, it further increased to 25 students (93%), leaving only 2 students (7%) who had not achieved mastery. These findings indicate a significant improvement from Cycle I to Cycle II, with more than 80% of students scoring above 70. The study concludes that letter card media is effective in enhancing the early reading ability of first-grade students. The implications of the study highlight the importance of teacher training in using simple yet effective learning media and provide opportunities for further research on the effectiveness of letter card media in different educational contexts.

Abstract

The problem formulation in this research is how is the analysis of the critical discourse text dimension model by Teun A. Van Dijk found in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri?, how is the analysis of the social cognition dimension of critical discourse model by Teun A. Van Dijk found in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri?, how is the analysis of the social context dimension of critical discourse model by Teun A. Van Dijk found in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri?. The purpose of this research is to describe the analysis of the critical discourse text dimension model by Teun A. Van Dijk in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri, to describe the analysis of the social cognition dimension of critical discourse model by Teun A. Van Dijk in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri, and to describe the analysis of the social context dimension of critical discourse model by Teun A. Van Dijk in the lyrics of the song "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri. The method used is discourse analysis. The object of this research is a critical discourse analysis of the song lyrics "Tanpa Pamrih" by Feby Putri (Teun A. Van Dijk's Theory). The process of qualitative data analysis is supported by qualitative descriptive methods using observation and transcription/note-taking techniques. The results of this study show the data obtained by the researcher as follows: there are three forms of analysis found in the song "Tanpa Pamrih," namely text dimension analysis, social cognition analysis, and social context analysis. The text dimension analysis includes three aspects: macro structure (thematic), superstructure (semantic), and micro structure (syntactic, stylistic, rhetorical). Social cognition analysis reveals Feby Purti's creative process in creating "Tanpa Pamrih." The expressions conveyed by Feby Putri through the song "Tanpa Pamrih" are emotions of sadness and regret. Social context analysis involves the background behind Feby Putri's creation of the song "Tanpa Pamrih," which includes her personal experiences and the values in the song "Tanpa Pamrih"thatcanimpactsociety.

Abstract

Penelitian ini berjudul “Tindak Tutur Ekspresif Guru dalam Proses Pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia Siswa Kelas VII J SMP Negeri 5 Kupang.” Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk, fungsi, dan makna tindak tutur ekspresif yang digunakan oleh guru dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di kelas VII SMP Negeri 5 Kupang. Metode yang digunakan ialah metode kualitatif deskriptif. Teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini ialah teknik observasi, wawancara, dan rekam.Teknik analisis data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah model analisis interaktif. Hasil penelitian menyatakan sebagai berikut: Pertama, bentuk tindak tutur ekspresif yang ditemukan sebanyak 7 tindak tutur. Bentuk tindak tutur ekspresif ucapan selamat, ucapan terima kasih, meminta maaf, memuji, mengkritik, mengeluh dan menyindir. Kedua, fungsi tindak tutur ekspresif mencerminkan bagaimana guru menyesuaikan penggunaan bahasa dengan tujuan komunikasi di kelas. Ketiga, makna tindak tutur ekspresif menunjukkan adanya hubungan emosional yang dinamis antara guru dan siswa.

Abstract

The focus of this study is How well do seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang write expository texts? The purpose of this study is to analyze the ability of seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang to write expository texts. The theory used is writing theory, because what is measured in this study is the students' ability to write expository texts based on their own reasoning skills and knowledge gained through social interaction. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative. In this study, the researcher chose material about expository texts by considering the structure and linguistic aspects of expository texts. Expository texts are texts that contain explanations of information or knowledge based on facts about a particular topic presented in written form. Based on the results of the analysis conducted on 23 students in class VII A of SMP Negeri 20 Kupang, the ability to write expository texts with attention to the structure and linguistic aspects of expository texts can be said to be quite capable because 73% (17 students) were able to write fantasy texts with a score of 70-100. This is evidenced by the percentage of students who passed or achieved a minimum passing grade of 70 or above, totaling 17 students with a percentage of 73.91%, while the number of students who did not pass was 6 students with a percentage of 26.86%.

Abstract

The focus of this study is “How well can eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang write persuasive texts?” The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of eighth-grade students at SMP 20 Kupang to write persuasive texts using images. The benefits of this study are theoretical and practical. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method with 23 eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang as the subjects. The research instrument used is the students' work. Data collection was carried out using a test technique. The data analysis technique was to test the collected data. The results showed that out of 23 students, only 12 students were able to write persuasive texts, while the structure of the students' text in terms of issue recognition reached 26.9%, 35.2% in the argument sequence aspect, 29.1% in the appeal statement aspect, and 30.4% in the reaffirmation aspect. Based on the data analysis results, it can be concluded that the ability of eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 20 Kupang in writing persuasive texts using image media is in the less capable category.

Abstract

This research, entitled “Taboo Utterances in the Purung Ta Kadonga Ratu Traditional Ritual: An Anthropolinguistic Study,” aims to identify, describe, and analyze the forms and meanings of taboo utterances used in the Purung Ta Kadonga Ratu ritual of the Anakalang community in Central Sumba Regency. The study employs an anthropolinguistic approach, combining linguistic analysis with socio-cultural context to understand how taboo language functions in maintaining sacredness and social order within traditional ceremonies.The research applies a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, direct observation and documentation involving three key informants: traditional elders and ritual leaders. The data were analyzed through transcription, translation, classification and interpretation of the taboo utterances, based on Kridalaksana’s (1993) theory and Hymes’s (1972) SPEAKING communication model.The findings reveal 28 main taboo utterances, consisting of 19 positive (sacred) taboos and 9 negative (socially prohibited) taboos. Positive taboos are associated with sacred elements, respect toward God, ancestors and cultural symbols—such as Loda Pari, Mamuli and Labba. Negative taboos, on the other hand, are linked to prohibitions against words or expressions believed to bring misfortune or offend ancestral spirits, such as Mehang Karaga, Ratu Hanguju and Patara Mata Madu.These findings demonstrate that taboo utterances serve as a means to preserve ritual sanctity, regulate social behavior and symbolize reverence toward ancestral and cultural values. Thus, linguistic taboos in the Anakalang community reflect not only linguistic structure but also their belief system, ethics and collective cultural identity.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe the meanings and symbolic motifs of the Ende Lio traditional sarong. The focus of this research is on the form, function, and symbolic meaning of the motifs found in these traditional sarongs. The study applies semiotic theory, which explains the process of examining and analyzing signs and cultural symbols.A qualitative method was employed, as the research object was studied in its natural cultural context. The analysis reveals that the symbols found in Sarung Kelimara, Sarung Jara Elo, Sarung Redu Siku Mbira, and Sarung Pundi each possess distinct forms, functions, and meanings. However, they all share aesthetic values that reflect the unique cultural identity of Ende Lio.This research is expected to serve as a reference for future studies in linguistics and cultural semiotics, as well as contribute to the preservation of Ende Lio’s local culture.

Abstract

Abstract:  This community service program aimed to enhance teachers’ digital competence in conducting technology-based learning assessments through training on the use of Quizizz at SMP Kristen Besikama. The main problem faced by the partner school was the continued use of conventional assessment methods and limited mastery of digital evaluation tools. The program employed a participatory approach consisting of preparation, implementation, and evaluation stages. The training was conducted over two days using lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and intensive mentoring. Program evaluation was carried out through reflective discussions and a Likert-scale questionnaire to measure participants’ understanding and responses. The results indicated a significant improvement in teachers’ ability to create, manage, and analyze digital quizzes using Quizizz. Teachers also demonstrated readiness to integrate the application into daily classroom assessment practices. Furthermore, Quizizz’s reporting features enabled faster and data-driven analysis of student learning outcomes. This program contributed to strengthening teachers’ digital literacy and promoting more interactive and effective assessment practicesAbstrak: Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi digital guru dalam melaksanakan evaluasi pembelajaran berbasis teknologi melalui pelatihan pemanfaatan aplikasi Quizizz di SMP Kristen Besikama. Permasalahan utama yang dihadapi mitra adalah proses evaluasi yang masih konvensional serta keterbatasan penguasaan teknologi evaluasi digital. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif dengan tahapan persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama dua hari melalui metode ceramah, demonstrasi, praktik langsung (hands-on training), dan pendampingan intensif. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan melalui diskusi reflektif dan penyebaran kuesioner berbasis skala Likert untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman dan respons peserta. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan guru membuat, mengelola, dan menganalisis kuis digital menggunakan Quizizz. Guru juga menunjukkan kesiapan untuk mengintegrasikan aplikasi tersebut dalam pembelajaran sehari-hari. Selain itu, fitur laporan pada Quizizz membantu guru melakukan analisis hasil belajar secara lebih cepat dan berbasis data. Kegiatan ini berkontribusi terhadap penguatan literasi digital guru dan inovasi evaluasi pembelajaran yang lebih interaktif dan efektif.

Abstract

The research entitled "Implementation of Role Playing Model to Improve Indonesian Language Learning Outcomes on Interview Text Material of Fourth Grade Students of SDN Oesapa Kecil 2, Kupang City" was motivated by the low learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SDN Oesapa Kecil 2, Kupang City in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study aims to improve the learning outcomes of fourth grade students of SDN Oesapa Kecil 2 after the implementation of the role playing model in learning. The research approach used was classroom action research (CAR). The subjects in this study were all 21 fourth grade students of SDN Oesapa Kecil 2. The data collection techniques used were observation and tests. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, where in the first cycle the students' learning outcomes met the criteria of being quite good with a percentage of completion reaching 57.14%. While in the second cycle, the students' learning outcomes increased significantly and met the criteria of being very good with a percentage of completion reaching 95.23%. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the role playing model is effective in improving Indonesian language learning outcomes in the interview text material of fourth grade students at SDN Oesapa Kecil 2, Kupang City.

Abstract

The research entitled "Application of Digital Big Book Media to Improve Early Reading Skills of Class 1C Students of UPTD SD Inpres Sikumana 3" was compiled by Diana Anin with NIM 2201140146, motivated by the low early reading skills of class IC students of UPTD SD Inpres Sikumana 3 in the 2025/2026 academic year. This study aims to improve the early reading skills of class IC students of UPTD SD Inpres Sikumana 3 after the implementation of digital Big Book media in learning. The research approach used is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The subjects in this study were all class IC students of UPTD SD Inpres Sikumana 3, totaling 31 people, consisting of 19 male students and 12 female students. The data collection techniques used were observation, tests, and documentation. This research was conducted in 2 cycles, where in cycle I the initial reading skills of students obtained a percentage of completion of 48%. Meanwhile, in cycle II, students' initial reading skills increased, with a completion rate of 100%. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the implementation of digital Big Book media can improve the initial reading skills of class IC students at the UPTD SD Inpres Sikumana 3.
