Abstract

Harmful algal blooms (HABs) frequently exhibit recurring patterns in specific locations and are often associated with significant environmental challenges, such as eutrophication. However, HABs have also been observed in areas with lower levels of eutrophication. This study aimed to detect and identify phytoplankton species responsible for blooms in the waters of Doreri Bay, with a particular focus on potentially harmful species (HABs). It represents the first attempt in this region to identify microalgal species. Field sampling was conducted during the southeast (dry) season of 2023 at nine stations across Doreri Bay. A total of 21 phytoplankton taxa, representing three classes were identified, with 14 taxa (66.7%) being potentially harmful. Phytoplankton cell densities ranged from 2.96 × 10⁴ cells L-1 to 1.22 × 10⁵ cells L-1, with an average density of 2.01 × 10⁴ cells L-1. The community was dominated by Diatoms, including Bacillaria spp., Coscinodiscus spp., and Rhizosolenia spp., and Cyanobacteria, mainly Trichodesmium spp. Two bloom patterns were observed: Cyanobacteria and Dinoflagellates dominated coastal areas, while Diatoms were more abundant in the outer bay. Correlation analysis revealed that temperature, salinity, and dissolved oxygen (DO) were the primary environmental factors driving phytoplankton variability and growth in the shallow coastal waters of Doreri Bay. These findings suggest that the phytoplankton community structure in this region remains stable when environmental gradients stay within the tolerance thresholds of sensitive species. Conversely, potentially harmful algal blooms are likely to develop when these environmental gradients exceed the tolerance levels of more resilient species.

Abstract

Education can be created through an active learning atmosphere in developing the self-potential of students to have religious spiritual strength, self-control, personality, intelligence, noble character, and skills needed by themselves, society, nation and state. This study aims to determine the influence and relationship between motivation to learn chemistry on cognitive learning outcomes of students at SMA Negeri 1 Manokwari on colloidal system material. The research method used is a quantitative experiment with an associative approach. This research design used pre-experimental design in the form of One-Shot Case Study. The sampling technique in this study used the Non Probability Sampling Technique, with Purposive Sampling. The samples used were students. Data collection instruments included a questionnaire on motivation to learn chemistry and tests of cognitive learning outcomes. The results showed that there was a significant influence between the motivation to learn chemistry on students' cognitive learning outcomes, which was indicated by the significance value obtained from the simple linear regression test and the correlation test, namely 0.0001 and the R Square value of 33%. and there is a positive relationship between motivation to learn chemistry on cognitive learning outcomes of students.

Abstract

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in chemistry education necessitates the development of innovative learning media to facilitate students’ comprehension of abstract and complex concepts, such as atomic structure. This study aimed to develop and validate an Android-based interactive learning medium and to examine its practicality for chemistry learning. A research and development (R&D) methodology was employed, utilizing the 4-D model comprising define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. During the define stage, students’ learning needs and difficulties were identified through classroom observations, interviews, and needs analysis questionnaires. The design stage involved the formulation of learning objectives, content organization, and the development of a media prototype. In the develop stage, the learning media was evaluated using validation instruments completed by experts in chemistry content, instructional media, and learning design. The disseminate stage focused on assessing practicality through student response questionnaires. The results revealed that the developed learning media achieved high validity, with mean expert validation scores of 3.86 for content, 3.80 for media, and 3.85 for design, resulting in an overall mean score of 3.83, categorized as very valid. Furthermore, student responses indicated a high level of practicality, with an average score of 3.55, classified as very positive. These findings suggest that the Android-based interactive learning media is feasible and practical for supporting students’ understanding of atomic structure and has strong potential for implementation in chemistry learning contexts.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media using Assembler Edu to enhance the understanding of molecular geometry concepts at the Senior High School (SMA) level. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach, incorporating both the Spiral and Waterfall development models. These models consisted of four main stages: setting objectives, identifying and mitigating risks, designing, and developing. Data were collected through expert validation, student trials, and user satisfaction questionnaires. Five validators assessed the media, and its validity was analyzed using Aiken’s V formula, while reliability was measured through inter-rater agreement. The results showed that all Aiken’s V values were above 0.8, indicating strong agreement among experts and confirming the validity across all categories. The inter-rater agreement values exceeded 75% (kappa > 0.70), demonstrating a high level of consistency among validators. Trials were conducted with 60 students from two schools: MAN 1 Prafi Manokwari and SMA 3 Kendari. The findings indicated a low difficulty level and reflected positive student responses toward the use of AR media for learning molecular structures. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that AR-based learning media offers an innovative and effective solution for enhancing chemistry education.
