Abstract

The aim of this research was to know whether has an effect of Concept-Oriented Reading Instruction (CORI) Strategy in improving students’ reading comprehension at second semester English Study Program of UMB. This research is a quasi experimental research. In this research, the population on the research included all second semester English Study Program of UMB in academic year 2021/2022. There were 32 students for the class. One class is an experiment class, it used concept-oriented reading intruction (CORI) and another without using concept-oriented reading intruction (CORI). The instrument on this research was reading test and aimed to measure students’ reading comprehension. The researcher used essay form with total 10 questions. Those question have been valid and reliable since it was adopted from Reading for Intermediate textbook. The finding of the research showed that there is a significant difference in post-test results between the group that was taught with CORI strategy and the group that was taught with conventional technique at second semester English Study Program Students of University Muhammadiyah Bengkulu. Abstract

Writing is a complex and essential skill that plays a significant role in communication, education, and professional endeavors. However, many students encounter various difficulties when engaging in writing tasks, especially in covid-19 pandemic. The aim of the research is to find out student’s writing difficulties in online learning during COVID-19 pandemic at 4TH semester in Muhammadiyah University of Bengkulu. The design of this research was descriptive method. The instrument of the research was questionnaire. The result showed that there are four factors that make fourth semester students have writing difficulties in online learning during pandemic Covid 19, namely : organization, content of the text, grammar and vocabulary mastery. The dominant factor of the students writing difficulties is vocabulary mastery. It implies that the students need to practice regularly and set aside dedicated time for writing practice. In addition, the students can seek support if they are still facing persistent challenges in writing, consider seeking additional support from lecturers, counselors, or professionals specializing in learning writing difficulties to help them in personalizing strategies and interventions tailored to the students' specific needs especially enhancing their knowledge about organization, content, grammar and add their vocabularies. Abstract

Inclusive education is an alternative education for the students with special needs because the students with specials needs and other students learn in the same class. The purpose of this research is to find out what difficulties are experienced by the students with special needs at Alam Mahira Bengkulu elementary school. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The research subjects were elementary school students in grades 1-6 with special needs at Alam Mahira Bengkulu. Data collection techniques through observation, and interviews. The results showed that; the difficulties faced by students with special needs at Alam Mahirah Bengkulu elementary school are not too dominating, in learning, the students can still follow learning in class even though there are some students who do not follow class learning. The researcher gives advice to schools, and English teachers, shadow teachers to establish good relationships, and pay attention to interactions in special needs students and normal students. Abstract

Debate is an activity to fight for the team's argument by presenting strong and relevant evidence so that the team's argument wins, convincing the jury that the team's argument is valid, strong, and true. Therefore, debate participants need to know the mode of their argument. The purpose of this study is to identify and describe the dominant mode of argumentation used by debaters at the 2021 National University Debating Championship (NUDC). The research design of this study used a qualitative descriptive method. The instrument used is an observation sheet. The subjects of this study were the participants of the Open Quarterfinals room D1 (NUDC) 2021, Open Semifinals D1 (NUDC) 2021, and Novice Grandfinals (NUDC) 2021 debates. The results of this study indicate that the debate participants used all the argumentation modes in NUDC and the most used or the most dominant argumentation mode was evaluative argumentation. For future researchers, it is recommended to conduct an in-depth investigation of the debate. Keywords: Speaking, Debate, Mode, Argumentation

Abstract

The research gap is a situation where inconsistentcies or gaps are found between occurs due to differences in results, concepts, data and theories from research results. The objective of this study is to find out about a) what are research gap strategies used by the researcher, and b) what is dominant research gap strategies used in the article introduction section in Teaching English as Foreign Language (TEFL). This research aims to identify the research gap strategies in article intoductions section in SINTA 1 journals. The jounals were taken in (IJOLE, SIELE, TEFLIN) journals, and were analyzed on five elements of research gap strategies following Arianto et al. (2021). Therefore, future studies have to analyze more extensive samples obtained from more journals to represent the feature of the articles in the journals regarding the RG strategies. Abstract

The primary objective of this study was to explore how teachers' roles are put into practice when teaching English to inclusive students at Elementary Schools in Bengkulu City. The research followed a descriptive qualitative approach in its design. The study involved 7 English teachers who were responsible for instructing English at various Elementary Schools in Bengkulu City, namely SDN 03, SD Al-Manar, SD Alam Mahira, SDN 61, SDN 73, SDN 24, and SD Al-Aufa. To gather data, the researchers employed an observation checklist and an interview guide. The observation checklist used in this study was adapted from Tyagi's work in 2016. There are 5 teachers’ roles in teaching inclusive students that were observed by the researcher which consisted 14 items. The research finding indicated that there were five teachers’ roles in teaching inclusive students at Elementary Schools in Bengkulu city, namely; teacher role as corrector, inspirator, culminator, facilitator, and evaluator. There were 71% of teachers implemented corrector and inspirator, there were 65% of them implemented teacher role as culminator, 24% as facilitator, and 100% of teachers applied teacher role as evaluator. The researcher suggested for English teachers to implement teacher role as facilitator since less than fifty percent of English teachers who implemented teacher role as facilitator.

Abstract

Pengajaran, terutama kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris, sangat penting untuk meningkatkan persaingan sumber daya manusia di era globalisasi. Namun, penguasaan bahasa Inggris masih menjadi tantangan di Thailand, terutama karena kurangnya pengajar yang berpengalaman dan metode pembelajaran yang lebih berfokus pada teori daripada praktik. Solusi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan bahasa Inggris siswa di Thailand adalah Program Praktik PTMA Yala, yang menggunakan pendekatan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan dan interaktif. Di Somboonsart School, yang merupakan sekolah Islam di Yala, Thailand, yang berfokus pada pembelajaran agama, siswa Indonesia terlibat dalam program ini. Metode pembelajaran yang menyenangkan digunakan untuk meningkatkan minat dan keterlibatan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Inggris. Perencanaan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi adalah tahapan program. Pembentukan grup belajar, praktik langsung, penggunaan musik, dan media video adalah beberapa strategi.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris merupakan keterampilan penting di era global sebagai alat komunikasi internasional dan sarana untuk mengakses informasi secara luas. Namun, penguasaan bahasa Inggris di Thailand, khususnya tingkat sekolah dasar (Prathom Suksa), masih menghadapi berbagai kendala, seperti terbatasnya guru yang kompeten dan metode pengajaran yang kurang aplikatif. Untuk menjawab tantangan tersebut, dilaksanakan program Praktik PTMA Yala yang melibatkan mahasiswa Indonesia dalam kegiatan mengajar secara langsung di sekolah-sekolah lokal. Penulis ditempatkan di Chitphakdi Wittaya Krongpinang School, Provinsi Yala, untuk mengajarkan bahasa Inggris pada siswa sekolah dasar (Prathom Suksa). Dalam praktiknya, salah satu kendala yang dihadapi adalah perbedaan bahasa antara pengajar dan siswa. Sebagai solusi, digunakan metode pembelajaran yang mudah dan menyenangkan melalui gambar, audio, video, dan permainan edukatif. Pendekatan ini terbukti efektif dalam menciptakan suasana belajar yang aktif dan meningkatkan minat serta kemampuan siswa dalam bahasa Inggris.
