Abstract

In the recent development of MOSFET, non-planar structure has been identified as promising structure for next device generation. The advanced scaling of device implies that more sophisticated model is required due to the limitation of the existing models for application in nano scale. Analytical model for non-planar MOSFET model is discussed in this paper, especially for device with pillar. The concern of channel shape and structure is elaborated as well. The result shows the shift in subthreshold characteristic due to the presence of recessed region in the channel with the simulated model.

Abstract

Bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is one method of measuring body fat levels by distinguishing the fat mass and non-fat mass based on body composition assessment. This research designs a system to measure the body fat percentage by BIA method. The system is capable of measuring BIA with automatic switching between four different electrode schemes, i.e cross-sectional, hand-to-hand, hand-to-foot, and foot-to-foot. Two electrodes are to conduct current into the body, while other two electrodes are utilized to measure the voltage from the body. The alternating current is injected with frequency of 50 kHz. Automatic switch in the form of multiplexers and demultiplexers controls the sequence of BIA measurement methods. Microcontroller process the data and the result is displayed on LCD. A keypad is used to input related body parameters, i.e height, weight, age, and gender. The measurement tests shows that the BIA works as intended, while the comparison with commercial BIA reveals maximum relative error of 4.6 % and the highest standard deviation of 2.2%.

Abstract

Radio-over-fiber (RoF) technologies address wireless communication’s need for high data rate, protocol- transparency, and flexibility. One of challenge in RoF access point design is RF amplifier requirement that match to microwave-photonic link chosen and service range needed. This paper proposes a graphical approach as systematic method to solve the challenge. The method identifies two regions, i.e. (a) scalable region where amplifiers’ output 1-dB compression point (OP1dB) improvement can enhance system’s maximum input and output power, and (b) saturation region where any improvement on amplifiers’ OP1dB cannot improve AP’s maximum input and output power. The methods have been verified by system simulations. The errors at scalable and saturation regions are less than 1 dB and the standard deviation is no more than 0.6 dB. The error values around the breakpoint between scalable and saturation regions are around 1 dB. Therefore, the proposed graphical approach can be used in the specification tradeoff between RoF access point input and output power, amplifier’s gain and OP1dB.

Abstract

Common weight scales cannot assess body composition or determine fat mass and fat-fress mass that make up the body weight. This research propose bio-impedance analysis (BIA) tool capable to body composition assessment. This tool uses four electrodes, two of which are used for 50 kHz sine wave current flow to the body and the rest are used to measure the voltage produced by the body for impedance analysis. Parameters such as height, weight, age, and gender are provided individually. These parameters together with impedance measurements are then in the process to produce a body fat percentage. The experimental result shows impressive repeatability for successive measurements (stdev ≤ 0.25% fat mass). Moreover, result on the hand to hand node scheme reveals average absolute difference of total subjects between two analyzer tools of 0.48% (fat mass) with maximum absolute discrepancy of 1.22% (fat mass). On the other hand, the relative error normalized to Omron's HBF-306 as comparison tool reveals less than 2% relative error. As a result, the system performance offers good evaluation tool for fat mass in the body.

Abstract

Stub-loaded, square open loop resonator (SOLR) is a type of bandpass filter with dual-band response. It is believed that its center frequency values are determined by entire length of open loop resonator’s and open stub's lengths, the bandwidth values are determined by coupling between two resonators. However, design of experiments (DOE) method applied in this paper shows that the center frequency values are also affected by interaction between resonator length, stub length, and distance between the two resonators in pair. The DOE also shows that bandwidth values, both upper and lower bands, are not only affected by the distance between resonators but also by the resonator’s and stub’s lengths. Utilizing slope values of the significant factors, systematic tuning to SOLR can be done. With few steps, small error on frequency responses can be obtained.

Abstract

The development of the nanotechnology leadsto the shrinking of the size of the transistors to nanometerregion. However, there are a lot of challenges due to sizescaling of the transistors such as short channel effects (SCEs)and threshold voltage roll-off issues. Fin-Type Field EffectTransistor (FinFET) is another alternative technology tosolve the issues of the conventional MOSFET and increasethe performance of the Static Random Access Memory(SRAM) circuit design. FinFET based SRAMs are faster andmore reliable which are often used as memory cache for highspeed operation. However, 6T SRAM cell suffers from accesstransistor sizing conflict resulting in a trade-off between readand write stability. This paper presents an investigation ofthe stability performance in retention, read and write modeof 22nm FinFET based 8T SRAM cell. The performancecomparison of 22nm FinFET based 6T and 8T SRAMs weremade. The simulation of the SRAM model are carried out inGTS Framework TCAD tool based on 22nm technology. In8T SRAM cell, two n-FinFETs are added to the conventional6T SRAM cell which will be controlled by the Read WordLine (RWL) to isolate the read and write operation path forbetter read stability. FinFET based 8T SRAM cell givesbetter performance in Static Noise Margin (SNM) and powerconsumption than 6T SRAM cells. The simulation resultsaffirms the proposed FinFET based 8T SRAM improvedread static noise margin by 166.67% and power consumptionby 76.13% as compared to the FinFET based 6T SRAM.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the aim to build integration between Bioimpedance Analysis (BIA) and Body Mass Index (BMI) for users with special needs. The proposed system can measure height, weight, BMI and body composition simultaneously to be used by the elderly population and handicapped users. The proposed system is developed as a chair equipped with several system blocks, namely BIA block, BMI block, power supply block, and microcontroller block. Before starting the measurement, users only need to enter their age and gender data. The whole system is controlled by using Arduino Mega 2560 on the microcontroller block equipped with keypad for data input and an LCD to display measurement results. System testing is performed by comparing the measurement results with Omron HBF-375. The test involved 8 volunteers (4 males and 4 females). The test results show that the integrated BIA-BMI works well with an average error of 1.5%.
