Abstract

The Wairon is a traditional warboat of the Biak tribe, characterized by its unique symmetrical structure tailored for combat navigation. This research explores the mathematical principles embedded in its construction from an ethnomathematical perspective, addressing the gap in literature on how indigenous maritime engineering reflects advanced spatial reasoning. The study aims to document and analyze the symmetrical design elements of the Wairon to uncover how Biak boatbuilders apply geometric and anthropometric logic in practice. Using an exploratory qualitative method with triangulation, data were gathered through 12 in-depth interviews with cultural experts and elder artisans, direct observations of three traditional boat-building sessions, and literature analysis of maritime knowledge. Triangulation was applied by comparing themes that emerged independently across these three data sources. The collected qualitative data were analyzed using a thematic coding framework with multiple coding cycles, focusing on patterns of symmetry, measurement techniques, and structural logic. Codes were reviewed through peer validation and saturation was reached after the third data source. Symmetry in this study is operationally defined as bilateral congruence across a central longitudinal axis, as observed in the mirrored placement of najun (crossbeams), outriggers, pegs, and bow carvings. Evidence was gathered through measurements of spatial repetition, alignment consistency, and anthropometric mapping (e.g., arm span and fathom units) used by artisans during construction. Key findings highlight that the Wairon's design reflects a high degree of symmetry not only for aesthetic or symbolic purposes but also for tactical advantages in battle, allowing seamless directional shifts. The theoretical implications contribute to the expansion of ethnomathematics by contextualizing symmetry as both a cultural logic and a navigational solution, while practically, these insights provide a model for integrating indigenous design principles into STEM education and support initiatives for digital heritage preservation and virtual reconstruction of traditional technologies

Abstract

Abstract

This paper examines the influenza spread model by considering subpopulation, vaccination, resistance to analgesic/antipyretic drugs + nasal decongestants. Based on the studied model are determined, non-endemic, endemic stability points and the basic reproduction number. In the model studied, control is given in an effort to prevent contact of individuals infected with influenza and susceptible (u1), and control treatment for infected individuals in an effort to accelerate the recovery of infected individuals (u2). In the numerical simulation, using the control u1 the number of infected individuals subpopulation decreased compared to that without control. The number of individual recovered subpopulations using the u2 control increased more than that without the control.

Abstract

Abstract

This research is a classroom action research (CAR) conducted in two cycles. This study aims to improve learning outcomes and learning activities of students by implementing the Number Head Together (NHT) type cooperative learning model on the material of linear equations and inequalities of one variable. This research was conducted at SMP Negeri 7 Sentani with the research subjects being 25 class VII B. Data collection techniques were carried out through teacher observation, student observation, and individual tests.. The results show that: 1) The application of the NHT type cooperative learning model can improve learning outcomes in the material on linear equations and inequalities of one variable in class VII B of SMP Negeri 7 Sentani. This is proven by the classical average data of the results of the student learning outcome test which increased by 71% in cycle 1 and 83% in cycle 2. The average value of students also increased by 69 in cycle 1 and 75 in cycle 2. The effectiveness of using this learning model increased with an n-gain of 0.59 in cycle 1 and 0.50 in cycle 2. 2) Student learning activities in learning linear equations and inequalities of one variable increased. In cycle 1, student learning activities increased from 70% in the first to 75% in the second meeting. Classical learning activities in general reached 71%. In addition, in cycle 2, student learning activities also increased from 83% in the first to 88% in the second meeting. Classical learning activities in general reached 88%.
