Abstract

Background: The amount of food waste from patients in the hospital represents less than optimal feeding, so food waste can be used as one indicator to evaluate the success of nutrition services in the hospital. High scores of food waste can result in inadequate nutrition intake until malnutrition in hospitalized patients. Objectives: The purpose of writing this article is to analyze food waste and food service satisfaction in inpatients. Methods: Descriptive research with cross sectional study design. The sampling method in this study was simple random sampling, with a total sample of 30 patients. This study used the dependent variable is food service satisfaction in inpatients and the independent variable is food waste in inpatients in the form of staple foods, animal side dishes, vegetable side dishes, vegetable. The data collection instruments for this research were observation of food waste, satisfaction survey questionnaires, and interviews with the head of the nutrition installation. Results: This study found that the highest average percentage of food waste for inpatients was in staple foods (28%) and the least in animal side dishes (12.5%). Food waste in elderly patients (45.83%) and children (39.28%) is high when compared to the standard limit is ≤20%. Most of the patients complained that the food served at the hospital was less attractive, the portions were too large, the temperature was cold, and the food was less varied. Conclusions: The food waste of inpatients in the elderly and children at Islam Jemursari Hospital Surabaya is still relatively high, so efforts are needed to improve nutrition services. Evaluation and improvement in the quality of service for the provision of food in hospitals can reduce food waste and increase patient satisfaction.

Abstract

Junior football players often encounter difficulties in managing their sleep and dietary patterns. At the same time, they need to balance their time between scheduled school activities and training sessions. This dual responsibility can sometimes make junior athletes susceptible to sleep and dietary issues, potentially affecting their performance. This study aimed to examine the sleep patterns and dietary intake of football players across different age groups at a football club in East Java. We compared the sleep patterns and dietary intake of players in the U18 (n=18), U16 (n=13), and U14 (n=8) categories. Data were collected through interviews using validated questionnaires. Dietary intake was assessed with a semi-quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ). Sleeping quality and quantity were assessed using structured questionnaire adapted from Pittsburgh Sleeping Quality Index (PSQI). The results showed no statistically significant differences in the quality or quantity of sleep across all groups (p > 0.05). However, a trend suggested that U18 players had slightly better sleep quality and quantity compared to the other groups. In contrast, the U18 group demonstrated significantly lower energy intake than the other groups (p = 0.000). The U16 group exhibited the best energy and nutrient intake among all age categories. In conclusion, older and younger player groups tend to overlook dietary patterns, while their sleep patterns remain relatively consistent.

Abstract

Breastfeeding provides optimal nutrition for infants and offers significant health benefits to both mother and child. However, challenges such as perceived low milk production and workplace constraints hinder breastfeeding practices among mothers. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Mom Uung Breastmilk Booster Supplement (BBS) in enhancing breastmilk production among working and non-working mothers. Using a cross-sectional design, data were collected from 665 breastfeeding mothers in Indonesia via a validated online questionnaire. Mothers who consumed X BBS reported increased breastmilk volume, breastfeeding frequency, and pumping efficiency, with significant improvements observed in both working and non-working groups (p<0.001). Non-working mothers demonstrated higher breastmilk production compared to working mothers. Key barriers identified included perceived low milk supply (30.3%) and work-related time constraints (11.6%). The study highlights the potential of X BBS to support breastfeeding practices and underscores the need for workplace policies that promote breastfeeding. Further research is recommended to validate these findings and objectively assess the impact of BBS on breast milk quantity and quality.
