Abstract

This study aims to analyze the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model in improving students' cognitive learning outcomes in science learning, especially in the material on the structure and function of plant tissues. The research was conducted at SMP Negeri 4 Satap Wori, with the research subjects in the form of 21 grade VIII students who had heterogeneous learning abilities. This study uses a class action research (PTK) approach in two cycles. In the first cycle, student learning outcomes showed that only 38.1% of students had completed, while 61.9% had not reached the Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM). Based on the reflection of the first cycle, improvements were made in the second cycle by increasing student involvement, providing more motivation, and forming heterogeneous learning groups. The results in the second cycle showed a significant increase, with 85.7% of students achieving learning completeness in accordance with the KKM. The increase in learning completeness from the first cycle to the second cycle was 47.6%. This study concludes that the PBL model effectively improves students' critical thinking skills, creativity, and motivation and can help students solve problems independently and in groups. Therefore, applying the PBL model is recommended to continue to be used in learning that involves real-world problem-solving.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aims to develop modul based on Contextual Teaching and Learning to facilitate spatial literacy among students in SMA/MA in the topic of Three Dimensions which fulfills the criteria of validity, practicality, and effectiveness. The research method used in this study is Research and Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. This research uses high school students from the twelfth grade of the Science program at one of the public high schools in South Tangerang City as the subjects of the study, totaling 34 students. Validation was carried out by 3 Mathematics Education lecturers as experts and 5 Mathematics teachers as practitioners. The results of the research indicate that (a) the teaching material is highly valid with a score of 0.905, (b) the teaching material is considered highly practical with a score of 0.872, and the student response questionnaire yielded a score of 0.846, and (c) the teaching material is effective in facilitating students' spatial literacy skills, as evidenced by 79.4% of students achieving scores above the Passing Grade, which is 78. In conclusion, Three-Dimensional teaching materials based on Contextual Teaching and Learning can facilitate spatial literacy among students in twelfth-grade at SMA/MA.

Abstract

The low mathematical computational thinking ability of students is caused by the lack of mathematics learning innovation that supports this ability. This study aims to analyse the effect of Realistic Mathematics Education on mathematical computational thinking ability based on students self-regulated learning. The research design used was a pseudo-experiment with a 2x3 factorial design. This research was conducted in class XI of one of South Tangerang State High School. The sample consisted of 42 students in each experimental and control class in which there were high, medium, low self-regulated learning groups. Data were collected using tests and questionnaires that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data were analysed using two-way analysis of variance. The test results showed that: 1) there is a significant average difference in mathematical computational thinking ability between students learning using Realistic Mathematics Education and students learning using conventional approaches, 2) there is a significant average difference in mathematical computational thinking ability between students who have high, medium, and low self-regulated learning, and 3) there is no interaction between learning approaches on mathematical computational thinking ability in terms of students self-regulated learning

Abstract

Computational thinking is the ability to think about solving problems the way a computer works. This ability is very important in the 21st century, so it needs a teacher's attention when teaching mathematics. This study aims to explore and analyze the impact of discovery learning on students' mathematical computational thinking abilities and self-confidence. The research was carried out at a private high school in Bogor for the 2023/2024 academic year. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a randomized posttest-only control group design. The research sample consisted of 28 students using the discovery learning model and 26 students using the conventional model. Data collection instruments are tests and questionnaires that have been tested for validity and reliability. The research results show that the average mathematical computational thinking ability taught using the discovery learning model is higher than the conventional model class, with a large influence in the medium category (= 0.221). The average self-confidence of experimental class students is higher than that of the control class with large being included in the medium category (= 0.186). The discovery learning model influences students' mathematical computational thinking abilities and self-confidence in the high category (= 0.292).
