Abstract

The increase in new leprosy cases in the year 2021 spread across 19 regencies, with the highest distribution in Padang Pariaman, and it is still a problem in West Sumatera Province. Based on this condition, "the pockets of leprosy" has been created, which play a role in the transmission of leprosy, so the elimination effort experiences difficult. Public Health Center of Pauh Kamba in Padang Pariaman Regency has 12 (19%) new multibacillary cases. In commemoration of World Leprosy Day in the year 2022, Indonesian Society of Dermatology And Venereology (INSDV/Perdoski), Indonesian Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Association (Perdosri), and Padang Pariaman District Health Office have been struggling to break the chain of transmission of leprosy by increasing understanding of leprosy, self-care of leprosy, prevention of disability, and revitalize the activities of self-care groups by local health workers.

Abstract

Background: En coup de sabre (ECDS) is one of the clinical variations of morphea. ECDS refers to a variant of linear morphea that usually involves the forehead and frontal scalp that may be associated with alopecia. This study aimed to describe a case of en coup de sabre with its diagnosis and management. Case presentation: A girl, aged 16 years, came to the dermatology polyclinic with the main complaint of a sunken brown spot on the left forehead and corner of the left eye, which has been expanding since 2 months ago. This complaint does not feel itchy or painful, but because it is getting more widespread, patients feel embarrassed and often cover it up. On dermatological examination, depressed hyperpigmented macules, plaque size, firm boundaries, and location on the left medial superior lid and left medial glabella were found. On dermoscopy examination, a reticular pigment network obliterating the follicular opening was found. The results of the histopathological examination showed the impression of a linear morphea type with en coup de sabre. This patient was diagnosed with linear morphea type with en coup de sabre Conclusion: En coup de sabre is a rare autoimmune disorder and is a subtype of morphea. Early detection and appropriate intervention will reduce disease progression.

Abstract

The spread of the Coronavirus Disease represents the most significant global health threat in recent decades. Blood type is among the risk factors associated with COVID-19, with certain blood types linked to increased severity and higher mortality rates. This research aims to assess the relationship between ABO blood type and outcomes in severe and critical COVID-19 patients in the ICU at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. The study is an observational analytical research utilizing a cross-sectional approach. Data were gathered from the medical records of COVID-19 patients from January to September through a total sampling method, resulting in 124 individuals meeting the inclusion criteria. The data were analyzed utilizing the Chi-Square test. The discoveries uncovered that male patients (54%) dwarfed female patients (46%). The larger part of patients were within the age range of 56-65 for years (33.9%). Patients with blood sort O were more predominant among those with extreme COVID-19 (31.3%) and basic COVID-19 (38.0%). The foremost common result was passing, happening in 56.0% of serious cases and 53.7% of basic cases. There was no factually noteworthy relationship between ABO blood sort and results in serious and basic COVID-19 patients, with a p-value of 0.778 (>0.05). The study concludes that there's no measurably critical affiliation between ABO blood sort and outcomes in extreme and basic COVID-19 patients within the ICU at Dr. M. Djamil Padang hospital.

The patient was reported to have Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) of 15 which implied he had severe disability and decreased quality of life due to his illness. Patient also had symblepharone release operation done by ophthalmologist. A laryngeal reconstruction plan was also carried out by ENT doctor, but the patient couldn’t continue the treatment because of economic problem. Scarring of MMP is a significant complication in many cases. Mucous membrane pemphigoid could cause a lot of disability to the patient and decreased quality of life. Symblepharone release operation was done and laryngeal reconstruction plan was also carried out. Surgical intervention may not curable; however, it may be necessary for restoring function and improving quality of life.

Abstract

Leprosy is still a health problem in several countries, including Indonesia. Disability due to leprosy is a health threat for sufferers and causes quality-of-life problems that can disrupt the productivity of leprosy patients. Ocular involvement in leprosy is joint, but little data has been reported. Apart from multi-drug treatment (MDT), leprosy sufferers must also be able to carry out continuous self-care to prevent further disability. This is a collaborative activity between the Department of Ophthalmology and Dermatology Venereology of the Faculty of Medicine, the University of Andalas in Puskesmas Pauh Kamba district of Padang Pariaman. This is an advocacy activity on self-care (3M: Seeing, Examining, and Protecting) and eye examination. The activity was followed by interactive discussions and continued with a direct examination for skin abnormalities and disabilities, eye examination, and fundoscope. The activity results were obtained from 24 respondents, 11 men and 13 women. The age range is 16-59 years (67%), with the highest level of education being Elementry School graduates, which is 11 people (46%). In the self-care questionnaire of patients, 40% behaved well, and the results of eye examinations almost suffered from dry eye complaints without disabilities.
