Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of bay leaf ethanol extract on the histopathological picture of the kidneys of rats induced by doxorubicin. To determine the administration of bay leaf ethanol extract is more effective in protecting the heart than the positive control (Vitamin E). The bay leaves used were obtained from the Harjosari II Medan Amplas area of Medan city. The independent variable in this study was Salam Leaf Ethanol Extract, while the dependent variable was kidney histopathology. This research was conducted at the Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory of the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of North Sumatra. The results showed that the administration of vitamin E together with doxorubicin showed a better renal histopathological picture. Vitamin E as a basic antioxidant is able to reduce the damage caused by doxorubicin which is seen in the absence of widening in the Bowman capsule.

Abstract

Cancer is the most often diagnosed disease in the world and the top cause of death. Doxorubicin is a widely used systemic therapy, although its efficacy is limited by dose-related toxicity, including haematological suppression, organotoxicity, and hepatotoxicity. Bay leaf is a commonly utilised plant in the community for treating and preventing many diseases because it includes secondary metabolites that are antioxidants such as phenolics, alkaloids, saponins, steroids, triterpenoids, and tannins. The purpose of this work is to characterise EEDS, identify its secondary metabolite content, and test its nephroprotective effect in doxorubicin-induced rats using SGPT and SGOT levels and liver histology. This is a laboratory experimental investigation using rats and comprises of treatment groups receiving 0.5% of CMC-Na, Nature E, or EEDS at doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, or 500 mg/kgBW, respectively, followed by doxorubicin. The results indicated that EEDS had 21.64 % water soluble material, 1.79 % total ash, 9.98 % water, 45.38 % ethanol soluble extract, and 0.39 % acid insoluble ash. EEDS included alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, glycosides, saponins, and steroids/triterpenoids, as determined by phytochemical screening. EEDS doses of 100 mg/kgBW, 300 mg/kgBW, and 500 mg/kgBW can significantly lower SGPT by 34%; 52,46%; 59,31% and SGOT levels by 27,05%; 43,96%; 50,07% and can improve the liver histopathology of doxorubicin-induced rats by reducing pyknotic degeneration, inflammatory cell infiltration, bleeding, steatosis and sinusoidal dilatation with an effective dose of 500 mg/kgBW with a significant difference with the doxorubicin group followed by 0.5% CMC Na. The key to bay leaf ethanol extract has hepatoprotective activity.

Abstract

The optimal implementation of the managerial function of the head of the room is one of the factors that affect the performance of the team leader and has an impact on the quality of nursing services. Phenomena that occur in hospitals are often the head of the room busy with meeting activities held by hospital management so that the implementation of the role and function of the head of the room as a clinical supervisor who becomes a consultant for team leaders in nursing care is often neglected. The results of the study using product moment analysis found that there was an effect of implementing the managerial function of the head of the room on the performance of the team leader (p = 0.00 r = 0.905). The results of multiple linear regression showed that only the implementation of the planning function influenced the team leader's performance (p = 0.039 B = 4.150). The conclusion is that the higher the implementation of the planning function carried out by the head of the room, the better the performance of the team leader. The implications for nursing in this research are that it is necessary to improve the ability of the planning function of the head of the room through strategic planning training and developing nursing managerial concepts.

Abstract

Hospital Pharmacy Installation (IFRS) is a function implementing unit that organizes all pharmaceutical service activities in hospitals (Permenkes, 2016). Hospital pharmacy services are one of the activities in hospitals that support quality health services. This is clarified in the Decree (SK) of the Minister of Health Number: 1333/Menkes/SK/XII/1999 concerning Hospital Service Standards, stating that hospital pharmacy services are an inseparable part of the hospital health care system that is patient-oriented, providing medicines, including clinical pharmacy services, which are affordable for all levels of society. This study aims to determine the need for health workers by calculating the ideal number of pharmacists based on the workload at the Hospital Royal Prima . This research is qualitative research using observation techniques, interview guidelines and document review. This study uses research informants where the informants used are the head pharmacist and pharmacist. Data analysis is the process of systematically searching and compiling data obtained from the results of field observations (work sampling), in-depth interviews and document reviews. From the results of research conducted that pharmaceutical workers use 85.3% of their working time with productive activities. Of the productive activities as much as 40.2% are direct productive activities while the rest are indirect productive activities, and as much as 23.8% of indirect productive activities are administrative activities, because in this study 8.7% were obtained as nonproductiveactivities and personal activities with the results of work sampling with the WINS method, it turns out that the number of pharmacists installed at the Hospital Royal Prima Marelan is smaller than the need for pharmaceutical workers installed at the Hospital Royal Prima Marelan.
