Abstract

An anchor handling ship is a ship designed to support offshore operations in the form of handling offshore building anchors and carrying out activities of moving objects such as FPSO, Semi-Submersible Rigs, construction, production, and barges from one place to another where it requires bollard strength. pull which varies depending on the size of the object, besides that it is also to support other activities such as exploration and drilling. The VS 491 design type anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel which has been built by a shipyard in Batam has a maximum bollard pull test of 255 tons. This paper will analyze the propeller thrust, power, and efficiency propeller before and after the installation of the Rudder Bulb (RB) respectively in free-running conditions and towing barge conditions in 50% barge conditions and full loaded capacity, as well as in draft, and Speed on certain Anchor Handling ships. The resistance of the object being towed (towing) will be calculated on the load and speed of each. By using Maxsurf, software Rhinoceros 3D, dan the Numeca CFD, the shape of the ship's hull is produced according to the original. Then validation is carried out by comparing the resistance in the calculation by Maxsurf/Holtrop and the resistance in the calculation by CFD where resulting in a difference of less than 5% so that it can be said that the form of the model is in accordance with the original shape of the ship. Based on the calculation results in the free running conditions of the Anchor Handling ship, the Propulsive Coefficient (Pc) without ESD Rudder-Bulb (RB) at speeds of 10, 12, and 16.36 knots is 0.5162, 0.5407, and 0.5769 respectively, while with ESD-RB each is 0.5008, 0.5417, and 0.5921. Comparison of the Propulsive Coefficient without ESD-RB and with ESD-RB, that at speeds of 12 and 16.36 knots, the Propulsive Coefficient (Pc) increased by 0.19% and 2.58%, respectively, but the Propulsive Coefficient (Pc) decreased by 3.08% at 10 knots. Based on the analysis that has been carried out, it indicates that the installation of the Rudder Bulb (RB) will give an increase in the Propulsive Coefficient (Pc) at speeds of 10 knots and above in free-running conditions, whereas when towing it hardly gives an increase in the Propulsive Coefficient (Pc).

Abstract

High ship propulsion performance is the main goal of designers, propeller is one component of the propulsion system that also affects the performance of the propulsion. In propeller planning, it is necessary to pay attention to the efficiency of the propeller, in addition to reducing ship operating costs and reducing CO2 gas emissions which is one of the requirements for ships built above 2013, the rules have been made into the Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) standard. At this time the propeller that is widely used is the B Series propeller including the propeller design used on mini LNG ships, namely the B6.40 propeller, the B Series propeller has a pitch character from the Wageningen Propeller Series study. Innovations are made to get better propeller efficiency by varying the pitch distribution. The B6.40 propeller of the standard constant pitch type was modified to B6.40 variable pitch (high thrust). Propellers with high thrust have better efficiency especially for non-fast boats. This study was conducted to obtain the best propeller efficiency of a constant pitch propeller and three high thrust propeller units using Numeca's Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) numerical self-propulsion test. For validation of the simulation program by comparing the results of the open water test B6.40 Wageningen while resistance validation by comparing the ship resistance model test. The results of the self-propulsion test using Disc Actuator show that the propulsion coefficient (PC) of Modified-2 and Modified-3 high thrust propellers is better when compared to constant pitch. The magnitude of the increase in PC value reaches ± 4% higher than the constant pitch type on the Modified-3 propeller.

Abstract

Improvement of the performance of the diesel engine can be done by expanding the combustion chamber. One of the objectives of this research is to obtain optimal piston performance by modifying the piston crown to be 1mm deeper than the standard piston using B30 fuel. This research is also proof of previous research with a simulation that concluded that the performance of a diesel engine using a modified toroidal combustion chamber (TCC) +1mm piston has better performance than a standard piston. This research will analyze the comparison of the performance of a diesel engine using a standard piston and a modified piston on the diesel engine, using an experimental method with B30 biodiesel fuel with engine speed (RPM) variation of 1900 and 2100, also the dummy loads used are 1000, 2000, 3000, and 4000 Watts (W). From the results of the performance tests, it is concluded that the standard piston produces better performance than the modified piston with a very small difference in value in terms of torque, power, and SFOC. The level of NOx emissions produced by the standard RPM 1900 with 1000 W load is 1,483 g/KWh, at a load of 2000 W is 1,011 g/KWh, at a load of 3000 W is 1.375 g/KWh, at a load of 4000 W is 2,372 g/KWh, for standard piston RPM 2100 NOx emission levels produced at 1000 W load is 1,902 g/KWh, at 2000 W load is 1,450 g/KWh, at 3000 W load is 1.368 g/KWh, at 4000 W load is 1,066 g/KWh. The level of NOx emissions produced using a modified piston at 1900 RPM at 1000 W load is 1.865 g/KWh, at 2000 W load is 1.326 g/KWh, at 3000 W load is 1,250 g/KWh, at 4000 W load is 0.857 g/KWh, for RPM 2100 uses a modified piston at a 1000 W load is 1,970 g/KWh, at a 2000 W load is 1,583 g/KWh, at a 3000 W load is 1,465 g/KWh, at a 4000 W load is 1,226 g/KWh. NOx emission levels using standard pistons at RPM 1900 with B30 fuel tend to be smaller at low loads and larger at high loads compared to modified pistons, while NOx emission levels using standard pistons at RPM 2100 fueled by B30 are smaller than using a modified piston.

Abstract

The use of fossil diesel fuels still produces carbon dioxide emissions (CO2), sulphur dioxide (SO2), hydrocarbon emissions (HC), nitrogen oxide (NOx), and high total particles and carbon monoxide (CO). Moreover, the need for transportation of motor vehicles will always increase every year. The emission of exhaust gases resulting from the combustion process can essentially be reduced by improving fuel quality, the homogeneity of the fuel mixture, and regulating proper combustion. There are several ways to reduce exhaust emissions from diesel engines by providing precise injection pressures. This is done to get the perfect combustion. In addition, improving fuel quality is a way to reduce emissions of exhaust gases. Another one is by adding methanol to the diesel. The addition of methanol can reduce the emission of exhaust gas produced. The process of mixing the solar and methanol takes the addition of surfactants to obtain good homogeneity. Testing was conducted using simulation software with engine modeling. The result can be seen in the reduction and the addition of standard pressure 200 bar, that the emulsion fuel in SFOC (specific fuel oil consumption) suffered a decrease and increased by 0.2% and 0.3% at pressure 160 bar and pressure 240 bar. The fuel solution on SFOC suffered a decrease and an increase of 0.3% and 0.25% was produced by pressure 160 bar and pressure 240 bar. The highest NOx is produced by 240 bar injection pressures with Dexlite fuel while the lowest NOx is produced by 160 bar injection pressure with emulsion fuel.

Abstract

In preliminary ship design and ship propulsion systems, it is important to have a simple method of determining the optimization of the propeller diameter and propeller efficiency, as the minimum input data to arrive at a rough estimate of performance. This problem can be solved using propeller diagrams of the open water test series or polynomial regression. This research will introduce an optimization method for the design of the B series. The propeller design process, which was carried out as a single objective function using the MatLab code numerical method, encountered problems due to cavitation, required propeller thrust and engine propeller matching. Engine propeller matching is the matching of engine power, the hull and the propeller to achieve design speed with optimal efficiency. This research focus on case study results of testing a patrol boat with a length of 60 m. By using a computer program, this 60m patrol boat is able to reach a speed of 23.5 knots using a B5-92 and an engine power of 2935 kW with an efficiency of 64.2%. Using the DESPPC program, the 60m patrol boat is able to reach a speed of 23.5 using a B5-989 and an engine power of 2927 kW with an ETA-O efficiency of 64.5%. It can be concluded that the small computer program can be used as a B-Series propeller optimization method. For future research, this method will be developed for the other series based on polynomial regression such as Gawn series and Kaplan series.
