Abstract

Abstract: This study aimed to find out the general description of learning styles, types of learning styles, and English proficiency of students of English Language Education Program,Faculty of Teacher Training and Education (FKIP),Sriwijaya University and to find out whether there was a correlation between their learning styles and their English proficiency in general. The population of this study was the 3rd, 5th and 7th semester students of Palembang and Inderalaya campuses. The results show that in general the learning style of the students was dominated by verbal learning style with the percentage of 46.3%followed by social, logical, auditory, solitary, visual, and physical learning styles with the percentage of 18%, 9.8%, 9.4%, 9%, 5.7%, and 1.6% respectively. In general, the students’ English proficiency was still at the elementary level(59%), low intermediate level(30.7%), intermediate level(7%), and advanced level(3.3%). There was no positive and significant correlation between students’ learning styles and their English proficiency.

Abstract

This study is aimed at finding out the ability of students to use English collocation and its correlation with their academic achievements. The samples of this study are the 5th semester students of English education study program, UniversitasSriwijaya. Data were gathered by means of ability test using English collocation and academic achievements, GPA. The analysis results showed that there was a positive correlation between the ability of students to use English collocation and their academic achievements.

Abstract

Peran Bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa pengantar pendidikan di Indonesia dipandang penting dalam kemajuan dan perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan. Walaupun Bahasa Inggris masih berkedudukan sebagai bahasa asing pertama di Indonesia, Bahasa Inggris dijadikan sebagai sarana pengembangan dan pemanfaatan ilmu pengetahuan, teknologi dan seni. Maka dari itu, diperlukan penguasaan Bahasa Inggris, khususnya penguasaan TOEFL, di dunia pendidikan bagi mahasiswa. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menjawab tes Bahasa Inggris ekuivalensi TOEFL.  Jumlah peserta pada kegiatan ini adalah 41 orang yang berasal dari seluruh program studi Strata-1 di lingkungan FKIP Universitas Sriwijaya. Model yang digunakan adalah pendampingan, dimana tim memberikan pelatihan kepada peserta mengenai keterampilan menyimak, struktur, dan membaca. Adapun metode kegiatan yang dilakukan adalah presentasi. Sebelum penyampaian materi, peserta menjawab tes awal (pre-test) dan di akhir peserta menjawab tes akhir (post-test).  Peserta terlihat antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan ini. Berdasarkan wawancara singkat dengan peserta, diharapkan kegiatan ini dapat berlanjut di tahun berikutnya. Kendala yang terjadi selama berlangsungnya kegiatan tidak menganggu pelaksanaan kegiatan. Abstract

ABSTRACTOnline peer feedback has become common in university writing classrooms due to the availability of computer technology. This study aimed to explore EFL learners' experiences engaged in online peer feedback on writing through cloud collaboration. This study was an extension activity of the paragraph writing class for two weeks, in which ten participants voluntarily took part in it and were monitored by two instructors. The peer feedback exchanges, text revisions, and comments from interviews were qualitatively analyzed, and the emerging patterns of interaction were quantified. The results showed that the involvement of the participants in online peer feedback via cloud collaboration facility enabled students to detect and comprehend numerous writing problems, as well as revise and improve their work; both revision and non-revision-oriented feedbacks are part of the overall online textual interaction and communication that can be used to help them develop their second language; and the students also expressed different perspectives about whether they appreciated or disliked their online peer feedback experience. This study also provided some implications and recommendations for further research.ABSTRAKUmpan balik teman sebaya secara online telah menjadi hal yang umum di ruang kelas menulis di universitas sebagai hasil dari ketersediaan teknologi komputer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi pengalaman pelajar EFL yang terlibat dalam umpan balik teman sebaya secara online dalam menulis melalui kolaborasi cloud. Penelitian ini merupakan kegiatan perpanjangan dari kelas menulis paragraf selama dua minggu yang diikuti oleh sepuluh peserta secara sukarela, dan dipantau oleh dua orang instruktur. Pertukaran umpan balik dari teman sebaya, revisi teks, dan komentar dari wawancara dianalisis secara kualitatif dan pola interaksi yang muncul dikuantifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan para peserta dalam umpan balik teman sebaya secara online melalui fasilitas kolaborasi cloud memungkinkan siswa untuk mendeteksi dan memahami berbagai masalah dalam menulis, serta merevisi dan memperbaiki pekerjaan mereka; umpan balik yang berorientasi pada revisi dan non-revisi merupakan bagian dari keseluruhan interaksi dan komunikasi tekstual online yang dapat digunakan untuk membantu mereka mengembangkan bahasa kedua mereka; serta perspektif individu yang berbeda mengenai apakah mereka menyukai atau tidak menyukai pengalaman umpan balik teman sebaya secara online. Abstract

Along with the rapid development of technology, various kinds of social media applications are emerging and offering their users a variety of benefits. Social media such as WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, Telegram, and Google Classroom, to name but a few, are the ones that are often used by students for online learning because they can be used easily, anywhere and anytime. This study aimed at finding out whether or not the students used social media for learning, the kinds of social media mostly preferred by the students, and the reasons for their preferences.  The population of this study was 625 students from two state senior high schools in Palembang. For the sampling technique, this study applied the probability-sampling technique. Then, to meet the standard number of samples in a survey study, the writers took 14% of the population. It meant there were 88 research samples, specifically 44 students from each school. To collect the data, the questionnaire and interview were used in this research. As the results, all participants showed that they have greatly exposed themselves to social media during the "School from Home" session during the pandemic situation. In addition, the majority of the students mentioned YouTube as their favorite tool to use, yet they somehow managed using WhatsApp, Google Meet, Blog, Zoom, and Google Classroom too. Lastly, students often use those social media in everyday activities, including learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the development of a cloud-integrated e-book intended to enhance Basic English Grammar training for first-semester students in the English Education Program. A Research and Development (R&D) methodology employing the ADDIE model was utilized, which includes analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Data were collected using pre-test, post-test, interviews, and questionnaires. The results indicated a notable enhancement in student performance, with an average increase of 16.573 points (from M = 61.37 to M = 77.95) and a p-value of 0.000, substantiating the efficacy of the intervention. Furthermore, qualitative feedback revealed a significant demand for modern and interactive materials, highlighting the imperative to include technology into educational tools. The cloud-based e-book seeks to deliver accessible, engaging, and adaptable grammar instruction, facilitating ongoing updating and real-time collaboration. This unique technology solves the constraints of traditional teaching materials and supports consistent learning results, boosting students' understanding of English grammar and enhancing their overall educational experience.

Abstract

Teknologi informasi dan komunikasi dalam dunia pendidikan dapat dimanfaatkan dalam berbagai bentuk sesuai dengan fungsinya. Microsoft Office, sebagai salah satu bentuk pemanfaatan teknologi informasi dan komunikasi, adalah perangkat lunak yang terkenal dan dapat digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Tujuan kegiatan ini adalah meningkatkan pemahaman para guru Bahasa Inggris tentang fitur-fitur yang disediakan oleh Microsoft Office, terutama pada aplikasi Microsoft Word (integrasi antara EndNote dan Word dalam penulisan sitasi dan referensi) dan Powerpoint (pembuatan video). Model yang digunakan adalah pendampingan. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi workshop, pembimbingan dan penulisan laporan. Metode pendekatan yaitu metode pendidikan, pelatihan dan praktik, serta bimbingan dan praktik. Kegiatan pendampingan ini mendapat respon positif dari khalayak sasaran.

Abstract

Penelitian tindakan kelas merupakan salah satu upaya untuk meningkatkna kualitas pembelajaran di kelas. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman kepada guru, menjadikan guru terampil dalam menulis rancangan penelitian tindakan kelas, dan meningkatkan motivasi para guru untuk melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas. Pada masa pandemic, kegiatan ini dilakukan secara daring pada tanggal 7-9 Oktobe 2021 dengan jumlah peserta sebanyak 55 orang. Adapun sasaran kegiatan ini adalah para guru MGMP Bahasa Inggris Kabupaten Muara Enim. Skema kegiatan ini adlah perkuliahan desa. Model yang digunakan adalah pendampingan atau penyuluhan tentang konsep dasar dan pelatihan penulisan rancangan dan dianalisis dengan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Metode kegiatan adalah presentasi dimana guru menyusun rancangan PTK dan menyampaikannya di hadapan para peserta lainnya untuk kemudian mendapatkan umpan balik dari narasumber. Hasil observasi menunjukkan hal positif, yaitu guru antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan. Tambahan, peserta mampu menghasilkan contoh rancangan penelitian tindakan kelas. Peserta memgharapkan adanya kegiatan lanjutan di tahun-tahun berikutnya

Abstract

Abstract: This study investigated students’ perceptions of integrating local wisdom into English language skills courses, focusing on its impact on engagement, understanding, and learning experience. The research employed a survey design, collecting data through closed-ended questionnaire with insights from open-ended responses. The participants were pre-service teachers, students enrolled in the English Education Study Program. Descriptive statistics, including means, standard deviations, and frequencies, were used to summarize the responses for each section of the questionnaire in the data analysis. The questionnaire results revealed that students felt more motivated and reported a deeper comprehension of the cultural and social nuances within language use when local wisdom was incorporated into the curriculum.. Qualitative responses highlighted the significance of three main areas: relevant course materials, instructional expertise, and diverse pedagogical approaches. The study recommends ongoing curriculum adaptation to ensure a meaningful, effective blend of language and local cultural knowledge

Abstract

In the digital era, plagiarism awareness has become increasingly important, especially with the rapid rise of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in academic writing. Applications such as ChatGPT, Grammarly, and Quillbot assist students in generating, editing, and refining texts, but they also blur the boundaries between legitimate support and potential misconduct. Previous studies have examined students’ perceptions of AI in relation to academic integrity and writing quality, yet few have directly investigated whether the frequency of AI use is associated with students’ plagiarism awareness. Addressing this gap, the present study examined the correlation between AI usage frequency and plagiarism awareness in an academic writing course. A total of 79 English Education students at Sriwijaya University participated in this quantitative study, with data analyzed using Pearson Correlation. The results revealed a positive but insignificant correlation between the two variables (r = 0.035, p = 0.761). These findings suggest that frequent use of AI tools does not automatically strengthen plagiarism awareness, highlighting the need for institutional regulations and explicit training in academic ethics to guide students toward responsible and ethical AI integration in their writing practices.
