Abstract

Islamic education plays a significant role in shaping students who are faithful, knowledgeable, and morally upright. As formal educational institutions, madrasahs are expected not only to achieve intellectual excellence but also to cultivate social, spiritual, and ecological awareness among students. However, the integration of environmental education with religious values in madrasahs remains limited. This study aims to describe the implementation of the P5-PPRA Project towards an Eco Madrasah through the Sustainable Lifestyle theme, specifically through the planting and maintenance of ornamental and medicinal plants at MI Darul Ulum Bantaran, and to analyze the ecological and religious character values developed among students. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed interactively following the Miles and Huberman model. The findings indicate that these activities successfully foster responsibility, cooperation, discipline, environmental awareness, independence, spiritual consciousness, and high student enthusiasm. Furthermore, the integration of Islamic ecotheology and fiqh al-bi’ah principles ensures that the learning process is contextual, practical, and effective in developing students’ eco-spiritual character. In addition, the successful implementation of these activities provides opportunities for developing entrepreneurial initiatives based on ornamental and medicinal plants, allowing students to generate beneficial products while enhancing their ecological and religious literacy. The P5-PPRA Project thus demonstrates an effective model for establishing Eco Madrasahs oriented towards environmental sustainability and the cultivation of religious values.

Abstract

This study compares the education systems in Indonesia and Australia, focusing on educational levels and curriculum. In Indonesia, the system is regulated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, with a 12-year compulsory education policy (from primary to secondary education) and the implementation of the latest curriculum, the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes project-based learning and 21st-century skills. Religious education, however, is regulated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs. In Australia, with national standards from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting Authority, the education levels include Primary School, Junior Secondary School, and Senior High School, and the curriculum emphasizes general capabilities and cross-curriculum priorities. There is a significant difference: in Indonesia, at the primary and secondary levels, students are taught general national standard materials according to their level, whereas in Australia, at the senior high school level, students are taught according to their interests and expertise. However, both countries are committed to improving the quality of education. Indonesia focuses on access and technology, while Australia focuses on inclusivity and the professional development of teachers, with the aim of achieving high-quality education for all students.

Abstract

This research aims to find patterns in the internalization process of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama'ah An-Nahdliyah values in the curriculum of the Islamic Education Study Program at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Nahdlatul Ulama Indonesia University. Using a qualitative approach, this research explores how these values are internalized in the development of courses and implemented in students' academic lives. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results of this research reveal a pattern of internalization of Ahlu Sunnah wal Jama’ah An-Nahdliyah values, with three stages of internalization identified. Firstly, by incorporating these values as learning outcomes. Secondly, in the implementation stage by including courses that intersect with these values, not only through the written curriculum but also through the hidden curriculum as a support for materials obtained in lectures. Additionally, these values are transmitted through relevant activities, such as seminars strengthening the Pancasila ideology. Evaluation of students' understanding of these values is conducted through mid-term exams, final exams, and thesis defense sessions (munaqasyah).

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools, known as pesantren, have been established long before the nation gained independence and their existence continues to be prominent. Equipped with specific components, pesantren remains a sought-after educational institution among many Indonesian muslims. Regardless of their diverse forms, pesantren in Indonesia share fundamental elements and exhibit autonomy in educational management based on their unique characteristics. The curriculum within pesantren allows these institutions to persist and evolve with the changing times. This research aims to unravel the pattern of curriculum integration implemented by Pesantren Al Inaayah, which plays a pivotal role in its sustained relevance and positioning as an alternative educational choice for parents entrusting their children's education. The methodology employed in this study is rooted in various literary theories, complemented by on-site observations to assess the real conditions within the pesantren. To enhance data accuracy, the researcher conducted interviews with pesantren administrators, including caretakers, the director of tarbiyatul mu’allimin al Islamiyah at Al Inaayah, the teaching council, and several students, employing both structured and unstructured interview formats. Additionally, the researcher documented information related to Pesantren Al Inaayah in Gunungsindur Bogor. The findings indicate that Pesantren Al Inaayah successfully integrates its curriculum, instilling confidence in the institution's ability to meet societal expectations in nurturing the anticipated generation of the nation.

Abstract

The Five-Day School or Full Day School (FDS) policy, as regulated in Ministerial Regulation No. 23 of 2017, has sparked controversy among the public, particularly within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) and religious organizations. This study aims to identify the key actors involved in the opposition to this policy and analyze the fundamental reasons behind the resistance. Using a qualitative hermeneutic approach and historical causal analysis, the study reveals that Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the pesantren community were the primary actors opposing the FDS policy, whereas the government and Muhammadiyah tended to support it, citing character education enhancement. The findings indicate that the pesantren community's rejection was rooted in Islamic legal principles, particularly dar’ul mafasid muqaddamun ‘ala jalbil mashalih (preventing harm takes precedence over obtaining benefits). Pesantren leaders argue that the policy threatens the existence of madrasah diniyah and reduces students' religious education opportunities. Furthermore, the government is perceived as having failed to consider schools' infrastructure readiness and the psychological impact on students, which could diminish the effectiveness of learning. Resistance to this policy evolved into a social movement, marked by mass demonstrations from the pesantren community and advocacy efforts by NU. This study concludes that the FDS controversy extends beyond education policy debates, reflecting a broader contestation between educational modernization and the preservation of traditional values. Therefore, a more flexible and inclusive policy approach is recommended, taking into account school readiness and engaging various stakeholders, including religious organizations and education practitioners, to ensure that the policy is widely accepted and does not trigger social resistance.
