Abstract

Abstract

Kuok Village is one of the villages in the Kuok sub-district which has an area of 6000 hectares. The population in this village is 8352 people. The majority of the population in the Kuok village works as farmers. One of the commodities that cultivated by farmers is the orange orchard. Oranges in this village are still managed in fresh form and have not been made into a by-product. Hence, the Unri Community Service Team diversified its oranges derivative products, namely marmalade. The purpose of this community service is to solve the decay of oranges during the harvest season by processing oranges into marmalade that can increase community income. The methods used are survey, socialization and training. The process of making this jam begins with peeling the oranges, then all that is taken is the oranges flesh then mashed, then boiled the orange juice until it boils, then added sugar and put it in until the temperature is 105ºC, then the jam is placed in a jar.

Abstract

Trichoderma sp. is a saprophytic fungus found in various environments, one of which is in the rhizosphere of oil palm plants which can be used to control Ganoderma and increase the resistance of oil palm plants from stem rot disease. This study aimed to characterize the morphology of Trichoderma spp. origin of peat land in oil palm plantations in Kampar Regency and screening the potential in controlling Ganoderma sp. Trichoderma spp. from oil palm rhizosphere was collected from the smallholder oil palm plantations in Deli Makmur Village, Kampar, Indonesia. This research was conducted by several observations, such as the hypovirulence test; identification of the morphology of Trichoderma spp. fungus; growth and diameter test of Trichoderma spp. fungus; test of the inhibitory ability of Trichoderma spp. fungus against Ganoderma sp. LPTUNRI-Gan002 isolate; test for hyperparasitism of the fungus Trichoderma spp., which has high antagonistic power against Ganoderma sp. isolate. Six Trichoderma spp. isolates had morphological characteristics similar to two species, i.e., Trichoderma harzianum (LPTUNRI-Trc001, Trc004, Trc005, and Trc006 isolates) and Trichoderma asperellum (LPTUNRI-Trc002 and Trc003). LPTUNRI-Trc003 had the highest diameter (90 mm), growth rate (32.66 mm/day), and the highest ability to suppress Ganoderma sp. LPTUNRI-Gan002 (91.03%) compared to the other five isolates.

Abstract

Porang plant (Amorphophallus muelleri Blume.) is one of the plants that have the potential to be cultivated in peatlands needed to increase its production. This study aims to increase the growth of smallholder plants on peat media until six months after planting through bulbil size with dolomite treatment. The research type was a 4x3 factorial experiment arranged based on a Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The first factor is bulbil size which consists of four levels, e.g., B1 (5.0 g-7.5 g), B2 (>7.5 g-10 g), B3 (>10 g-12.5 g), B4 (> 12.5 g-15.0 g) and the second factor dose of dolomite consists of three levels, e.g., D1 (2.5 ton.ha-1) D2 (5.0 ton.ha-1) D3 (7.5 ton.ha-1) -1). These two factors resulted in 12 treatment combinations, with three repetitions. Each experimental unit consisted of three plants. Parameters observed were growth power, plant height, stem diameter, crown width, rachis length, number of leaves, number of tillers, and number of tubers formed. The results showed that the application of dolomite could improve some of the chemical properties of peat soil. The bigger the bulbil size, the better the growth of people and the administration of 7.5 tons of dolomite.ha-1 increased several plant growth parameters such as growth power and plant height.

Abstract

Coconut (Cocos nucifera L.) is a strategic plantation crop in Indonesia, playing important roles in society, the economy, and industry. Indragiri Hilir Regency is the largest producer of coconut in Riau Province; however, productivity has declined as plantations have aged. This study aimed to analyze the quality of coconut fruit based on plant age. A non-experimental comparative observational design was employed with three plant age treatments (15, 20, and 25 years). Each treatment was replicated six times, yielding 18 experimental units. Each unit consisted of two sample plants, totaling 36 plants. The measured parameters included endosperm thickness (mm), oil yield (%), and oil moisture content (%). For oil yield and moisture analysis, two mature coconuts were collected from each plant and analyzed in the laboratory, resulting in 36 samples. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, and significant results were further tested using Tukey's HSD at the 5% level. The results showed that plant age had a considerable effect on endosperm thickness, oil yield, and moisture content. These findings suggest that plant age affects coconut fruit quality, with 25-year-old trees producing the highest-quality fruits in the Tembilahan Hulu District, Indragiri Hilir Regency. This study offers recommendations for coconut farmers to optimize cultivation strategies, thereby enhancing production and fruit quality.

Abstract

Soursop (Annona muricata L.) is a tropical fruit plant with high economic value; however, its cultivation is limited by seed dormancy, which delays germination. This study aimed to determine the most effective sulfuric acid (H₂SO₄) concentration for breaking seed dormancy and improving seed viability of soursop. The experiment was conducted at the Greenhouse and Plant Breeding Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Riau, and implemented using a completely randomized design with four treatments: 0% (control), 70%, 75%, and 80% H2SO4 concentration. Each treatment was repeated five times. A total of 20 experimental units were obtained, each consisting of 25 seeds, for a total of 500 seeds used in the experiment. The results indicated that sulfuric acid treatment significantly affected most germination parameters. Seeds soaked in a 75% sulfuric acid solution exhibited the fastest germination time (28.40 Day After Planting), the highest germination percentage (88.80 %), and the strongest seed vigor (5.55%). These findings suggest that chemical scarification with 75% H₂SO₄ for 30 minutes can serve as a practical and efficient pre-sowing treatment to improve seedling establishment in soursop propagation.

Abstract

Abstract. Hamzah A, Saputra R, Puspita F, Nasrul B, Irfandri, Depari NS. 2021. Ganoderma diversity from smallholder oil palm plantations in peatlands of Kampar District, Indonesia, based on mycelia morphology and somatic incompatibility. Biodiversitas 22: 16-22. Basal Stem Rot disease is caused by the pathogenic fungus Ganoderma boninense which has caused major economic losses in the palm oil industry. Ganoderma boninense has been reported not only infecting crops in the field, but also attacking at the immature phase of the plant even in the nursery. Studies related to Ganoderma diversity in oil palm plantations in Riau, Indonesia have not been widely reported. Ganoderma genetic diversity is important because its provide information regarding the mechanism of infection and the spatial distribution. The Ganoderma spp. isolates were collected from three blocks of smallholder oil palm plantation in Deli Makmur Village, Kampar District, Riau Province, Indonesia and brought to Plant Disease Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, Pekanbaru, Indonesia. This experimental research was conducted using six Ganoderma isolates (Gan1, Gan2, Gan3, Gan4, Gan5, and Gan6) on the parameters of colony diameter and growth speed, while for the parameters of the morphological diversity of Ganoderma mycelium and the diversity based on somatic incompatibility assay was carried out descriptively. The results of this study show that oil palm plants in smallholder plantations in Kampar District are infected by two groups of Ganoderma based on morphology characteristics using UPGMA dendrogram, but different among isolates based on genetically using somatic incompatibility assay. For the next confirmation, it is necessary to further identify whether the six isolates are different species using molecular identification.
