Abstract

The better welding results are always a scientific challenge in welding engineering. This is to ensure the connection functions properly according to its designation. The main purpose of this study was to determine the effect of electrode drying temperature on the mechanical properties of ASTM A36 steel weld joint. This research was conducted at the Condet Welding Training Center and PT. Gamma Hepsi Condet. The tests carried out were visual tests, radiographs, and tensile tests. The results showed that the drying of the electrode E 7018 without an oven had a lot of welding defects on the inside in the form of porosity about 2 mm. The results showed that the highest tensile strength of 50.01 kgf/mm² was found in specimens using an electrode drying temperature of 230ºC.

Abstract

Material cutting can use a tool commonly called plasma cutting. In general, the plasma cutting used today is still using your own hands or manually, and is not equipped with driving support equipment. This results in the performance of plasma cutting when cutting is not maximized because the movement is relatively not constant. For this reason, it will be designed, manufactured, and tested for cutting support equipment with a rectifier rail system for plasma cutting. In the process of making this supporting equipment, it also uses a threaded rod so that it can move forward and backward by using an electric motor. The design of supporting equipment for the cutting process begins with the creation of a plasma cutting design. Then design the mechanical and electrical components. Then calculate the plasma cutting torque moving forward and backward. Then proceed with the process of making the device and finally testing it. The trial step begins with turning on the compressor, and plasma inverter and preparing steel measuring 4, 6, and 10 mm. Once ready, then proceed with the process of cutting the material and cleaning the material. The results of the cut were then observed visually. The results obtained, that this plasma cutting support equipment can operate properly. The plasma cutting support equipment can cut steel plates with a thickness of 4, 6, and 10 mm very well.

Abstract

A custom spray coating refill equipment has been designed and fabrication. For this reason, it is necessary to trial the equipment that has been made. This study aims to determine the performance of custom spray coating refill equipment. For a comparison parameter, coating and thinner mixture variations were conducted to determine the adhesion and thickness of the coating layer formed. The coating used in this experiment was Nitrocellulose (NC) and Polyurethane (PU) thinner. The ratio of coating and thinner mixture used are 1:1.5, 1:2, and 1:2.5. After mixing, the mixture was put into the sprayer using custom spray paint refill equipment. The mixture of coating and thinner was sprayed onto the SPCC steel plate. To measure, the adhesion and thickness of the coating layers, a cross-cut tool (according to ASTM-D3359) and a thickness gauge (according to the ASTM-AMT15) were carried out respectively. It seems the spray paint refill equipment was functioning properly. This is due to the quality of the coating layers having good adhesion, shown by all specimens getting 5B classification (0% not peeled off). Moreover, an increase in the thinner composition is lead to a decrease in the coating thickness.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the increased welding layers welded by the SMAW process on distorsion, thickness, microstructure, hardness, and corrosion. The method used in this research is experimental. Low-carbon steel with a size of 150x10x10 mm was welded by the SMAW technique using an HV 450 electrode. Variations in the welding layers are single, double, and triple. The three variations of the samples were observed with a digital camera and an optical microscope. Moreover, samples were tested with a hardness tester. Corrosion testing was also carried out to determine the corrosion rate of the layers formed. The results showed that the number of SMAW welding layers affected the thickness, phase, hardness, and corrosion rate. The hardness of one layer is less than that of thicker specimens, while the corrosion rate of three layers is lower than that of less-thick samples.

Abstract

Magnetic particles have been used for hyperthermia by inserting ferromagnetic material into tumor tissue. La(1-x)Sr(x)MnO3 is one of the best candidates for hyperthermia due to higher magnetic at ambient temperature and their Curie temperature easily adjusted. This research synthesized La(1-x)Sr(x)MnO3 using the ball milling technique. Several heat treatments were also conducted after ball milling processing. Various investigations, including SEM-EDS, XRD, DSC, and VSM, were conducted. LaMnO3 has a hexagonal structure, which has the space group R -3 c. From the diffraction pattern seen in LaMnO3 and La0.9Sr0.1MnO3 seen at angles 32.376 and 32.706, it looks separate like the database diffraction pattern. In La0.9Sr0.1MnO3, these two peaks are seen to be increasingly separated. In contrast to the diffraction patterns of La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 and La0.5Sr0.5MnO3 at an angle of 32.376, there is a decrease in intensity. The specific heat capacity of the alloy with Sr substitution of 0.3 has a greater value than that without substitution and the lowest occurs in the alloy with Sr substitution of 0.1. The magnetization value for Sr substitution is 0.3 higher than for other alloys.

Abstract

Re-design and repair of the furnace with a power consumption of 5000Watt was carried out to repair and add parts of the existing furnace. This is done so that the old furnace can be refined in its usefulness. In the re-design process, there are several stages, starting with the stage of making a sketch of the drawing, the size of the frame, the combustion chamber, and continuing at the stage of making working drawings. Next is the analysis of the calculation of the amount of heat released and the electricity consumption used. Based on the results of the furnace testing process, it can be concluded that the re-designed and repaired furnace is able to work optimally. The temperature produced by the furnace reaches 833°C within 26 minutes 34 second.

Abstract

Varies drying temperature will be carried out to see the characteristics formed such as gloss, bending ability, and adhesion resistance. The SPCC plate was cut and then carried out an epoxy painting process and dried. Then proceed with painting by giving black color and drying. Then proceed with the provision of varnish with a composition of 1:0.3 varnish and solvent. After completion, it is then baked in an oven with temperature variations of 40, 60, and 80ËšC for 25 minutes. The temperature of 40ËšC produces the highest gloss, which is 98.9 GU, good adhesion because there is no peeling paint and good bending results because there are no cracks.

Abstract

Proses pengecoran logam (casting) adalah salah satu teknik pembuatan suatu produk dengan cara logam dicairkan dalam tungku peleburan lalu lanjut dituang ke dalam ruang cetakan yang serupa dengan bentuk asli dari produk coran yang akan dibuat. Pada penelitian ini akan dirancang dan dibuat tungku berbahan bakar LPG. Tungku gas ini nantinya dibuat dan diaplikasikan sebagai alat peleburan logam aluminium. Pada proses rancang bangun tungku gas diawali dengan pembuatan sketsa tungku, perencanaan ukuran dari benda kerja, kemudian proses pembuatan gambar kerja, pemilihan material, dan proses pembuatan Setelah pembuatan tungku selesai dilakukan proses pengujian tungku itu sendiri untuk meleburkan aluminium. Dari hasil pengujian tungku berhasil meleburkan 2 kg aluminium dalam waktu 45 menit.

Abstract

Brass (CuZn) is widely used today due to better mechanical, thermal, and chemical properties. The present research fabricated CuZn alloy by adding various Zn (6, 9, and 12 wt.%) to the Cu using gravity casting. Casts CuZn alloy by adding various Zn to the Cu to investigate optimum composition were resulting highest inhibited of bacterial activity. In addition, the structure, hardness, and electrochemical behavior of the alloy were also investigated using XRD, Vickers hardness, and potentiostat equipment. XRD confirmed that CuZn alloy has an alpha phase, and a FCC crystal structure. The rise of the Zn content in the alloy led to an increase in crystallite size, a decrease in the hardness and a shift to a more negative OCP potential at 1200 s measurement. Enhancing the Zn content to 9 wt.% in the alloy lead to decrease the corrosion rate. Moreover, 24-hour post-contact observation found that the sample places removed remained clear of bacteria. The Cu6Zn sample successfully inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli in the 3rd hour, while Staphylococcus aureus was 100 % reduced in the 7th hour. The Cu6Zn sample could be used as an alternative material for medical equipment in ambulances.
