Abstract

A study was conducted to determine the optimum rates of N, P, K fertilizers on “IPB 9G” upland rice variety from March to July 2018 at the Sawah Baru Experimental Field of IPB University, West Java, Indonesia. Three paralel experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design to test five fertilizing levels, i.e. 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200% of the reference rate. The reference rates of fertilizer application are 100% N = 200 kg Urea ha-1, 100% P = 100 kg SP36 ha-1, and 100% K = 100 kg KCl ha-1. The applied fertilizers were Urea (46% N), SP36 (36% P2O5) and KCl (60% K2O). Fertilizers were applied three times, 40% at planting, 30% at 4 WAP and the rest 30% at 8 WAP; 100% P and 100% K were applied at planting. Increasing N fertilizer from 0 to 200% of the reference rate increased plant height, dry weight biomass at heading and at harvest, number of productive tillers, harvest index, and grain weight per clump. P increased dry weight of the above ground biomass, whereas K fertilizer increased the leaf area, canopy dry weight, number of grain per panicle, panicle length, harvest index and grain weight per clump. The optimum rate of N and P were 107.09 kg Urea ha-1 and 63.3 kg P2O5 kg.ha-1, respectively, whereas the optimal rate for K fertilizer for “IPB 9G” could not be determined with this study.

Abstract

Shallots are a horticultural commodity with high economic value because shallots are always used in almost every dish. The importance of knowledge about shallot cultivation technology according to the agroecosystem has yet to be fully distributed at the Bantang Cama Farmers Group in Manggarai Regency. The targets to be achieved from this PKM program are increasing the skills of farmer groups in Waso Village regarding the cultivation of Bima Brebes shallots, as well as the results of adaptation of Bima Brebes shallots through the implementation of cultivation carried out in the highlands. Service activities were carried out in the "Bantang Cama" farmer group in Waso Village, Manggarai, East Nusa Tenggara, with 36 participants. They went through the stages of field observation, literature study, outreach, demonstration, and evaluation. The evaluation was carried out using a pretest and posttest to measure the improvement in the skills of the farmer group and see the results of the Bima Brebes shallots that had been cultivated. The results of the service showed that the skills of the farmer group after participating in the socialization increased from 38.50% to 87.60%. Bima Brebes shallots produced low plant height, number of leaves, and tillers. This shows a mechanism of low adaptability to the agroecosystem, the highlands in Waso Village.

Abstract: Indonesia, with its continued positive and stable economic growth, also has an impact on the significant growth rate of meat consumption, especially those sourced from beef. The main problem in the livestock industry, especially beef, is that the increasing demand for meat products is not proportional to the growth rate of domestic beef production. The obstacle that the Tungku Mose farmer group often faces in relation to the production aspect is still a low understanding of the integration of Balinese cattle cultivation and environmentally friendly horticultural crops. This Community Service (PkM) activity was carried out for 6 months starting from September 2024 to February 2025, in the Tungku Mose farmer group, Laci Carep village, Langke Rembong district, Manggarai district. The team formulated the root of the problem and set the goal, namely the implementation of a sustainable Balinese cattle and horticultural crop integration model. The implementation of training and demonstration of how to prepare planting media focuses on improving the knowledge and skills of farmer groups (partners) about the introduction of drip irrigation technology and how to cultivate Balinese cattle (feeding and management of livestock waste handling) as solid organic fertilizer for plants. Furthermore, the team provides sustainable assistance by conducting regular visits to farmers and reviewing land preparation, planting and post-harvest later. From the above PkM activities, it can be concluded that in general, the implementation of PkM activities with training activities, demonstrations of methods, assistance in making bokashi fertilizer to the cultivation of horticultural plants on partner land has been successfully carried out and has a significant impact on increasing partner knowledge about the benefits of integration between Balinese cattle cultivation and horticultural plants and using the application of drip irrigation technology and handling waste (livestock manure) into fertilizer solid organic and its application for plants.
