Abstract

This article explores the moral integrity of Jane Eyre, the main character in Charlotte Brontë’s novel Jane Eyre, using a qualitative descriptive method focused on textual analysis. The study aims to understand how Jane's internal motivations, emotions, beliefs, goals, and actions represent a consistent and principled moral identity. Selected scenes and dialogues from the novel were analyzed, particularly those in which Jane faces emotional and ethical conflicts, such as her interactions with Mr. Brocklehurst, Mr. Rochester, and St. John Rivers. The analysis focuses on five aspects of moral integrity: staying true to personal values, emotional honesty, resistance to outside pressures, moral courage, and consistency between belief and behavior. The data were examined using interpretive tools from psychology, linguistics, and literary studies. Self-Determination Theory (Deci & Ryan, 2000), Blasi’s Theory of Moral Identity (1984), and Speech Act Theory (Austin, 1962; Searle, 1979) provided the theoretical foundation for this study. The findings reveal that Jane consistently shows moral strength by refusing to act against her values, even in situations involving love, authority, or comfort. Her integrity is reflected in the way she speaks, thinks, and acts, showing growth from childhood to adulthood. This study contributes to the fields of literature, psychology, and education by offering a clear framework for analyzing character-based moral development. It is useful for educators teaching ethics through literature and for researchers interested in interdisciplinary approaches to character analysis. The article provides a model for examining moral identity in literary texts using psychological and linguistic theories.

Abstract

The outbreaks of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) and Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in early 2024 significantly impacted livestock health conditions in Blitar City and led to an increase in emergency slaughter cases. The Dimoro Slaughterhouse plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of animal-derived food through the implementation of antemortem inspections. This study aims to evaluate the health status of beef cattle and identify pathological conditions detected during antemortem inspections at the Dimoro Slaughterhouse. The research used a quantitative descriptive method with direct observation of 40 cattle during the period of June 13–19, 2025. Clinical examinations were conducted on the head, neck, thorax, abdomen, anus, and limbs. The results showed that most cattle were male (34 heads) and predominantly of the Limousin breed (19 heads). No clinical symptoms of FMD, LSD, fever, or other disorders warranting slaughter rejection were found. Mild findings such as dirt around the anus were recorded in some individuals. Overall, the antemortem inspection was carried out effectively and contributed to ensuring the safety of meat products for public consumption.

Abstract

Background: Microbial contamination in consumed chicken eggs can endanger human health. Bacteria can grow and develop in food so that it can reduce the food quality. Determination of food quality can be done by various methods, one of which is Total Plate Count (TPC). Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the level of bacterial contamination in chicken eggs sold at traditional markets in Waru District, Sidoarjo Regency. Methods: Thirty samples were collected from two traditional markets, Waru Market and Wadung Asri Market. This study used the pour plate method of TPC test. Egg contents were diluted and then inoculated in Nutrient Agar. The media inoculated with the sample suspension was incubated at 37°C for 24 hours. The growing bacterial colonies were counted and analyzed using the Standard Plate Count. This study's data are presented descriptively and compared with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 7388-2009 maximum requirement of contaminant bacteria in chicken eggs is 1×105 CFU/mL. Results: The results showed that the averages TPC in two traditional markets were 2.1×104 CFU/mL in Waru Market and 3.4×103 CFU/mL in Wadung Asri Market. The average TPC still meets the maximum limit of microbial contamination listed in SNI 7388-2009. Conclusion: The average values of TPC in both markets are not the same, but the qualities of chicken eggs sold in Waru Market and Wadung Asri Market are good and suitable for consumption.
