Abstract

Abstract

This research will study about concentration and immersion time effect of corrosion rate inhibition by using Tahongai (Kleinhovia hospita Linn.) stem extract in a 3.5% NaCl environment. Tests conducted in this research were: the test of Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy to know the functional groups and the compounds contained in the Tahongai (Kleinhovia hospita Linn.) stem and allegedly contains flavonoids from the obtained functional group, Open Circuit Potential (OCP) test to obtain the corrosion data and the lowest corrosion rate which is 6.29x10-4 mm/year obtained on the samples with the addition of 400 ppm 30 day immersion. Efficiency maximum inhibitor obtained on samples with the addition of an inhibitor of 400 ppm 30 day immersion is 88.9336%.

Abstract

Metal recycling is an effective way to deal with the abundance of scrap metal such as drink can, scrap iron and others. Metal recycling skill is needed by the community especially in the youth to help reduce the amount of scrap metals in the environment and to develop a new creative and innovative industry, however the community doesn’t have the skills needed and have never gotten the training on metal recycling. Therefore, in the community service acticity of the Materials and Metalurgical Engineering Study Program, ITK, it was given metal recycling skill (aluminum) for the community. The metal recycling skill training was held in Kalimantan Institute of Technology campus, Balikpapan, East Kalimantan. The training was attended by 15 people from the community. The training was held by conducting presentation, practice, and discussion. The qualitative analysis results (from observation and discussion result) showed that all participant felt getting new knowledge and skill, that is the metal recycling skill.

Abstract

One that can be used as an organic inhibitor is bawang tiwai leaves extract. This study used 3.5% NaCl as corrosive media with inhibitor concentration of bawang tiwai leaves extract from 0 ppm to 500 ppm and immersion time from 10 days up to 30 days. The efficiency of inhibition was measured using a weight loss corrosion test, while the corrosion rate was obtained from polarization measurements. The FTIR test results show that the extract contains flavonoid compounds that act as antioxidants and inhibit corrosion. Inhibitory efficiency achieved up to 95.4545% for the addition of 300 ppm inhibitor and 20 days of immersion time. This inhibitory behavior is also supported by polarization measurements where the lowest corrosion rate of 0.00128 mm/year is obtained at the same concentration and immersion time.

Abstract

This research studied about making hard capsule shell using glucomannan extract from salak seed (Salacca edulis Reinw.). The glucomannan extracted by using etanol 96% and aqua dm. The glucomannan that had been extracted will became KGM polymer that will be used for casting the hard capsule shell using petri cup. The results obtained by smashing the seeds of salak to be smooth with meat grinder and glucomannan extraction using 2 methods with etanol 96% and isopropyl alcohol. After extracting the seeds of salak seeds, the bacon seed flour is weighed and taken some samples to obtain the best composition, resulting in a film layer on a thick capsule shell like a capsule shell in general. The result of the printing on the petri cup is still a thin layer that can not be taken, but this proves that glucomannan contained in the seeds of salak able to produce lapisal film capsule shells with the right composition.

Abstract

Cobalt oxide nanoparticles (CoO NPs) were synthesized via green synthesis using Nigella sativa seed extract as a natural reducing and stabilizing agent. This approach enables environmentally friendly production of ultrafine nanoparticles while incorporating bioactive plant compounds. The CoO NPs were characterized using XRD, XRF, UV–Vis, FTIR, and TEM. XRD confirmed CoO formation with diffraction peaks at 2θ = 31.247°, 36.712°, 42.5°, 44.771°, 59.359°, 61.536°, 65.227°, 74.31°, and 76.111°, which are indexed to the (100), (111), (200), (102), (110), (103), (220), (311), and (222) planes of face-centered cubic (fcc) CoO. XRF showed cobalt as the main element (71.36 wt%) with minor P, S, K, Ca, Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, and Ti. UV–Vis exhibited peaks at 320 nm and 344 nm, TEM revealed nearly spherical particles (1.72 nm with a standard deviation of 0.55 nm), and FTIR confirmed Co–O bonds (700–663 cm⁻¹) along with organic functional groups from the extract. The formation mechanism involves phytochemical-mediated bioreduction, surface stabilization, and producing well-dispersed CoO NPs. Overall, all characterization techniques consistently confirm the successful formation of highly crystalline, pure, and well-dispersed CoO nanoparticles with nanoscale dimensions. The combined results demonstrate that Nigella sativa extract effectively acts as both reducing and stabilizing agent, leading to stable CoO NPs suitable for potential applications in catalytic and functional material systems.
