Abstract

Motivation is a factor which important in do something. For the Students, motivation is one factor that influences the teaching-learning process in the classroom. This time, motivation is a factor that becomes a problem for the students SMPN I Enok. This problem is the background of the problem in this research. To solve the students' motivation in the English classroom, the researcher conducted the experimental research with a quasi-experimental design with applying the English song as a warming-up activity to solve the problem. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of using English songs as a warming-up activity to enhance students' motivation in the English classroom at the eighth grade of SMPN I Enok. The data collection technique in this research was a questionnaire, and the instruments were 15 Close Ended statements using the Likert Scale type. This research sample was 50 students of the eighth-grade SMPN I Enok as a control and experimental class. After getting the data using the questionnaire, the researchers found that English song as warming up activity was useful to enhance students” motivation in English classroom with the result t-observed was 19,85 while t-table was 2,01 from 5% and 2,68 from 1%. The t-observed score was higher than the t-table. Based on the result, H0 (null hypothesis) is rejected, and H1 (alternative hypothesis) is accepted. It also means that English song as warming up activity was sufficient to enhance students' motivation in the English classroom at the eighth grade of SMPN I Enok in academic years 2018/2019.

Abstract

The problem of this research was Learners' achievement seems low, while their autonomy seems higher. The method of this research was quantitative correlation research. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between learners' autonomy (Variable X) with learners' achievement (Variable Y). The sample of this study was 145 students of eleventh-grade students of SMAN 1 Tembilahan Hulu. The researcher gave questionnaires of learners' autonomy to collect data and asked the value of their English teacher's achievement. After the data has been collected, it was found that the average of learners' autonomy is 77,9%, it was in the "high category," And the average of learners' achievement was 81,6%, it was in the "high category". Based ." those findings, researchers analyzed the relationship between learners' autonomy and their achievement using the Pearson r formula; the results was 0.1999 (rxy) it was in "very low correlation," after found out the score of rxy researcher noting to the table of degree of freedom (df) N (number of respondents) – nr (variables) where 145 – 2 is 143. By consulting r table product-moment, it is found in the significant of 1% being obtained at 0.1371 and 5% is 0.1631. By comparing the values of rxy = 0.1999 and r table = 0.1371 and 0.1631, rxy is bigger than r table. This means that autonomy and achievement have a very low correlation. If learners have good autonomy, they will have a good achievement in English.

Abstract

The problem of this research was students’ speaking anxiety seems high. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know “what teachers’ strategy in minimizing students’ speaking anxiety at the second grade of SMAN 2 Tembilahan are”. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher was distributing questionnaires and interviewing two English teachers as samples to know their strategies in reducing students' speaking anxiety. The sample was taken by using total sampling because there are only two English teachers there. After collecting the data, the researcher found that teachers use many teaching activities to help students' anxiety problems. They used many teaching activities, such as small group work, pair work, simulations, and structure exercises. Besides, the teachers also motivate students to be positive thinking in learning English.

Abstract

The problem of this research was that students' motivation in learning English is good, so it is needed to know what teacher's effort in motivating them. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know what teachers’ efforts in motivating students to learn English at grade VIII of SMPN 1 Tembilahan Hulu are. Therefore, this research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher distributed the questionnaire to twenty students of the eighth grade of excellent class and interviewed the English teacher as a sample to know what teachers' efforts in motivating Students to learn English. The sample was taken using total sampling because there are only twenty students and one teacher for an excellent class. After collecting the data, the researcher found that teacher has reasonable effort in motivating students to learn English. The efforts are teacher uses various activities in teaching, prepares some engaging media, gives students assignment based on what they have learned, relates topics in teaching to students' daily activities, asks the students to think about their experience, gives reword to students, says positive words, gives students a chance to present their course work, and gives memorable score when students finish group work soon. Therefore, students can be motivated to learn when their teacher keeps supporting them by making some efforts in teaching.

Abstract

This research was conducted based on the problems found during the teaching and learning process in class VIII of SMP Kasih Lestari Tembilahan, specifically about students' understanding of the functional text. The problem found is that 50% of the students cannot understand the text they are reading, they cannot reach the KKM score, and Functional text is one of the texts in which students must be able to read and comprehend. This research is included in quantitative descriptive research. The population of this research is class VIII SMP Kasih Lestari Academic Year 2020/2021. The population and sample of this study were 23 people who were taken using the total sampling technique. The instrument used was an objective test. Data from students' objective tests are analyzed based on indicators and then interpreted and become research findings. Based on the results of the study showed that students of class VIII SMP Kasih Lestari: 1. The ability of reading comprehension in Main Idea Aspect showed at the poor level of 10 people out of 23 students (30,4%). 2. The reading comprehension ability in Reference Aspect showed at enough level of 10 people out of 23 students (43,4%). 3. The reading comprehension ability in Inference Aspect showed at the excellent level of 15 people out of 23 students (65,2%). 4. The ability of reading comprehension in Unfamiliar Word Aspect showed at the poor level of 15 people out of 23 students (34,7%). 5. The ability of reading comprehension in Factual Information Aspect showed at enough level of 5 people out of 23 students (43,4%). From the above research results, it can be concluded that students still experience many difficulties in reading comprehension, especially in functional texts by applicable rules. Furthermore, based on the results of this study, teachers are expected to be able to provide better teaching techniques, and students can do more exercises to improve students' reading comprehension abilities.

Abstract

This study is concerned with the students’ ability in understanding Conditional Sentences. It was done for the second-grade students of SMK N 1 Tembilahan. Then this research used a descriptive research that supported by quantitative approach. The research populations were taken from all the students of the second-grade of SMK N 1 Tembilahan in academic year 2020/2021. The total of populations were 108 students, which consist of three classes. The researchers selected a class as the sample is XI Accounting 3 (36 students). The instrument used to collect the data is test. It consisted of fifty multiple choices questions. Based on the analysis, the students’ ability scores in understanding conditional sentences is 84.38 in the type 1, 96.92 in the type 2, and 97.35 in the type 3. Their mean scores in understanding conditional sentences is 98.12. The research result is the students’ ability in understanding conditional sentences is in ranging very good level. It means that they have understood conditional sentences.

Abstract

There are several kinds of literary works. They are a poem, novel, fiction, drama,etc. Daisy Miller is one of the famous and popular novels. This novel is written inthe spring of London. The Author is Henry James. The writer analyzed this novel bythe sociological approach. This research applies qualitative research which thedata are taken from the analysis document and material from books and internetresearch. Data analysis concerns the interpretative technique that focuses onexamining data. The main source of this research is the novel Daisy Miller thisresearch is going to answer the research questions what is the characteristic ofdemocracy and Feudalistic is as reflected in Daisy miller novel? And what are thephenomena between democracy and Feudalistic in Daisy Miller novel? From theanalysis the author concluded that Daisy Miller is a representative of Americanwoman as same as democracy in the American Custom, She is going abroad toSwitzerland which is peaceful country inhabited by all kinds of people of differentrace, ethnic, language, skin color, religion, profession, from all over the world.The Henry James as the author showed Daisy Miller as a vulgar and as free asthe representation of American culture that has correlated with the social life. On theother hand, the author describes Mrs. Costello as a Feudalistic of Europeanculture. Mrs. Costello is a representation as European social-life that alwaysdistinguishes between high and low status and it is one of the character of Feudalism.The feudalistic was that the power of the ruling class or Aristocracy rested on theircontrol of the farmable lands, leading to a class based upon the exploitation of thepeasants who farm these lands.

Abstract

The phenomenon of anxious students often occurs in the process of learning English, especially in class. Where students feel scared and embarrassed when speaking English. The purpose of this study was to determine the extent of students' anxiety level when learning English, in English subjects. At MA Nurul Islam Belantaraya. This research is quantitative descriptive . Instruments This research uses a questionnaire containing 17 statements. And the total population is 36 people, and the sampling technique in this study is the total sampling used in this study is the students / I class XI at MA Nurul Islam Belantaraya kec. Echo. Furthermore, based on the results of calculating student responses to 17 questionnaire statements, students' anxiety levels are in the range of 60% - 79.99% which means High, which means that students' anxiety levels are high in learning English. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the level of student anxiety is caused by a lack of self-confidence, and the high shyness of students in speaking English.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the teacher's perception of the Via English Course about authentic materials that can be taken from the internet, magazines, and newspapers and so on. This type of research is descriptive quantitative. The population of this study are teachers at the Via English Course for the 2021/2022 academic year. The number of population and samples from this study were 11 people taken using total sampling technique. To find out the teacher's perception of using authentic materials in reading skills. Researchers collected data that is quantitative data. For data analysis, the researcher used observational analysis and a questionnaire to determined the final result of the teacher's perception in using authentic material in reading skills. The results of the test show that the teacher's perception of using authentic material in Via English Course Tembilahan is categorized with an average of 88.9% (Very Good). The researcher concluded that the teacher's perception of using authentic material in the Tembilahan English Course was very good because by using authentic material students were more active and more enthusiastic in reading English.

Abstract

The curriculum as several educational plans needs to be developed dynamically according to the needs and changes that occur in society with reference to the development of curriculum models. In line with this, among the many models of curriculum development, one that must be considered is choosing a curriculum development model. The selection of the development model is not based on the advantages and benefits and opportunities for optimal results, but also needs to be adapted to the education system and education processing system adopted and which educational concept model is used. serves as a means to facilitate a communication, or as a perspective guide for making decisions, or as a planning guide Therefore, the model can help us form the concept of the process by showing certain principles and procedures, as for the purpose of this mentoring is to provide insight to teachers in the development of the 2013 curriculum model. In addition, teachers who pursue escape are expected to improve their skills in carrying out learning activities. To achieve the expected goals of this training, lectures, demonstrations, exercises and assignments are used. The targets in this service are teachers SMA Tengku Sulung districts Sungai Batang. The methods used are in the form of seminars, demonstrations, and exercises or assignments.
