Abstract

English teaching for engineering students is categorized as English for Specific Purposes (ESP). This study aims to determine the English learning needs of the Electrical Power Installation Engineering, Industrial Automation Engineering, Building Modeling and Information Design, and Construction and Property Business departments at SMKN 3 Tanjungpinang. The research method used is descriptive qualitative with questionnaire and interview instruments involving 26 respondents, consisting of 25 students and 1 English teacher. The results of the study indicate that students need to improve their speaking skills, vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation. Learning methods such as Contextual Teaching and Learning and Task-Based Learning need to be applied to support the learning process. The main difficulties faced are the lack of mastery of speaking and pronunciation, as well as limited vocabulary. Students also like video-based and interactive learning media. The implication is that teachers need to develop more communicative teaching methods and use interesting media so that learning is more effective and relevant to students' needs.

Abstract

This qualitative case study investigated the factors and impacts of English language learning anxiety among students at SMP Muhammadiyah Tanjungpinang. The research focused on students from the 7th, 8th, and 9th grades during the academic year 2024/2025. A total of 32 students across all grade levels were involved in the study. The researchers initially conducted classroom observations to identify students who exhibited signs of anxiety during English lessons. Based on these observations, eleven students were selected as participants for semi-structured interviews and more detailed classroom observations. The research aimed to explore how anxiety manifests in the classroom and how it affects students' language acquisition in a unique socio-educational environment. The data collected through interviews and observations were analyzed qualitatively by interpreting students’ responses and behavioral patterns in class. The findings revealed that three primary types of language anxiety—Communication Apprehension, Test Anxiety, and Fear of Negative Evaluation—were commonly experienced by the students. These forms of anxiety were often interconnected, compounding the emotional barriers students faced in English learning. One of the key contributing factors was the students’ fear of peer ridicule, especially within a tightly bonded student community. Many of the participants were affiliated with orphanages connected to the school, which created a unique emotional and social environment. This setting, while supportive in many ways, also contributed to heightened sensitivity to peer judgment and a strong fear of making mistakes. As a result, the affective filter among these students was notably high, significantly hindering their willingness to participate and ultimately affecting their English language acquisition.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the analysis of behavioral accounting aspects in cost control at LKP Polindo Internasional. The study utilizes a case study approach. Data collection techniques involve gathering articles and journals, as well as conducting observations and interviews with managers and financial stakeholders at LKP Polindo Internasional. Several articles used for discussion topics were obtained from Google Scholar, relating to the behavioral accounting aspects in cost control. The research findings indicate that the implementation of budgeting by LKP Polindo Internasional is one of the methods used to allocate company costs effectively and efficiently, and it has been well implemented. By utilizing budgeting, the company can have a more precise overview of the costs associated with various activities within the company. The budget serves as a reference for carrying out future activities. This research is expected to provide insights into the positive contribution of implementing Behavioral Accounting and Activity-Based Costing Systems in cost control for educational service institutions or companies. However, this study has limitations, including constraints on data availability from the company and limitations on generalizing research findings to other organizations. Additionally, external factors that may affect cost control could also pose limitations.
