Abstract

Reading literacy and numeracy assessment in the MCA can be viewed from three aspects: content, mental processes, and context. Problems at SD Muhammadiyah 5 Malang City, there is no form of learning assessment oriented to the MCA. It is necessary to assist in preparing MCA-oriented numeracy modules in elementary schools. The implementation of the activity is in four stages, including workshops on the preparation of the MCA-oriented numeracy module, assistance in the preparation of the AKM-oriented numeracy module, the implementation of the MCA-oriented numeracy module, as well as reflection and follow-up. SD Muhammadiyah 5 Malang City is this service partner, represented by ten elementary school teachers. The implementation results showed that teacher competence increased, indicated by variations in the teacher's questions after the workshop activities. The types of questions compiled by the teacher are multiple-choice and arranged in the form of multiple complex choices, matchmaking, short entries and descriptions. Responses and evaluations from teachers that the MCA-oriented numeracy module is essential and makes it easier for teachers to map the achievement of students' necessary competencies and the need for variations in questions and student guidance before working on the MCA module.

Abstract

Educational media plays a pivotal role and forms an essential component within the educational framework. For third-grade students in elementary schools or madrasahs studying the theme of energy transformation and its sub-theme of energy sources, pedagogical tools are necessary for teachers to effectively impart thematic content, particularly in relation to the concept of time (hours). The methodological approach employed in this study is structured around the ADDIE model, encompassing Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation phases. The study's objectives were twofold: (1) To understand the development of the JOIN medium in relation to the sixth theme, first sub-theme, for third grade elementary/madrasah students, and (2) To gauge the degree of student engagement with the JOIN medium. The participants of the study comprised 17 third-grade students from Madrasah Mambaul Ulum Malang in the 2018/2019 academic year. The research yielded two key findings. Firstly, the JOIN tool, a large craft resembling the Japanese character Doraemon with an analogue clock integrated into its design and a pouch for storing thematic materials and questions, serves as a thematic learning medium, facilitating teachers in the transmission of educational content. Secondly, the study revealed a high level of student enthusiasm and enjoyment with the JOIN tool during the learning process. A questionnaire was employed to measure the students' reaction, revealing a very high validity rating of 92%. The teachers' response was similarly high at 90%, while content experts rated the tool at 84%. Initially, the tool expert gave an assessment of 88%, which increased to 97% following revisions. The study therefore concludes that the JOIN tool demonstrates high validity and is thus deemed an effective supplementary resource for the teaching and learning process.

Abstract

The students’ problem solving abilities in science about the alternative energy resulted in a low level. A few of the causes were the teacher-centered method and the lack of students' creativity development opportunity in the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of applying the STEAM approach using the Project-based Learning (PjBL) learning model to aid the students' problem solving abilities about the alternative energy material. This type of research is a quantitative experiment with a quasi-experimental design. The research was conducted at Ngaglik 1 Batu Elementary School in the even semester of the 2022/2023 academic year. The population was grade 5 students, and the samples were taken with purposive sampling technique. There were 28 students in the control class and 29 students in the experimental class. The data was collected using the pretest and posttest instruments. The pretest and posttest results were analyzed by parametric inferential statistics based on the prerequisite tests. The normality test used the Shapiro-Wilk and the homogeneity was tesedt using the Levene Statistics. The Independent Sample t-test was used to analyze the research problem and obtained Sig. (2 tailed) of 0.000, which meant that there was a significant difference in the posttest data in the control and experimental classes, so that the application of STEAM-PjBL learning model is concluded to be able to improve students' problem solving abilities.

Abstract

The use of Serious Games in education has experienced rapid development. However, not all studies have been able to show evidence that game-based methods are superior to other methods. It is important to analyze the quality of game designs used in learning and assessment used to assess students. This study focuses on how to design a serious game called B-block used in the assessment. The researcher validates the quality of the serious game first before conducting a pilot study regarding the feasibility of the Serious Game given for assessment. The game focuses on basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication, and involves positive and negative numbers. The study was conducted in one of the schools in Indonesia and given to 35 students with an age range of 11-12 years with different student backgrounds in their experience with game-based exams. Based on these results, 85.7% of respondents agreed that this game could be used as a substitute for paper-based exams, with the analysis of game design quality having an average value of 78% pedagogic specifications and 73% playful and 80% technical specifications. Thus, the average value of this game quality analysis is considered superior and meets almost all the specifications needed for assessment. We also argue that serious game is closely related to how game design meets specifications for use as educational tools.
