Abstract

The research aims to: (1) give comprehension of the concept of E-Learning as an instructional media; (2) develop E-Learning based instructional media for English; (3) know the effectiveness of E-Learning as an instructional media to improve cadets’ skill in English. E-Learning based instructional media was developed in Learning Management System (LMS) of Medan Civil Aviation Academy consisting of applicable features to be used easily and effectively by lecturer and cadets based on Elementary English lesson plan. The research was conducted at Medan Civil Aviation Academy in the odd semester of 2019/2020 academic year. The population was 144 cadets of first year and 24 cadets were taken as the sample through cluster random sampling technique. The method used in this research was research and development method and the technique of collecting data were by test and questionnaire.The results of the research concluded that: (1) cadets conducting E-Learning based instructional media achieved higher score (70,10) than conventional method (56,67); (2) development of E-Learning based instructional media showed high effectiveness in learning process gained from valid and reliable questionnaire (r11 = 0.8205); (3) development of E-Learning based instructional media was stated in “ a very good category” in term of usability aspect.

Abstract

One of the factors less successful learning process in the classroom is that lecturers are less innovative in applying learning methods. Lecturers still use the classical method of discussion. For that, a learning innovation is needed by applying problem solving methods. The study used quasi experimental design. The research population is medan aviation polytechnic cadets amounting to 40 cadets consisting of 20 people control group and 20 people experimental group. The data collection techniques used include interviews, observations, questionnaires, and tests. The statistical analysis used is Pearson ProductMoment to test validity, Cronbach'sAlpha to test reliability, Lilliefors to test normality,Levene's to test homogeneity, and t test and to test differences and effectiveness. Based on the results of the difference hypothesis test using independent samples t test,critical thinking ability data shows the value of tcalculated>ttable (3,740 > 1,998) with a level of significance (0.000 < 0.05) and the value of cadet learning results shows the value of tcount>ttable (3,656 > 1.998) with a significance level of less than 0.05 (0.001 < 0.05). Meanwhile, the results of the effectiveness hypothesis test using one sample t test,critical thinking ability data showeda table >ttvalue (5,724 > 2.037) with a significance level of < 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05) and a cadet learning value showing a>ttable t value (6,009 > 2,037) with a significance level (0.000 < 0.05). So, it can be concluded that there is a difference in critical thinking skills and learning outcomes between those who use problem solving methods and those who use discussion methods. Problem solving methods are effective in improving critical thinking skills and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Behavior Safety (BBS) and identify factors related to Unsafe Actions and Unsafe Conditions in cadets at the General Workshop of Medan Aviation Polytechnic. The research method used was survey and observation, involving the active participation of cadets as respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and direct observation of behaviors and conditions that could pose risks in the work environment. The results of the analysis showed that the implementation of BBS had a positive impact in increasing cadets' awareness and compliance with safety procedures. However, the findings also identified a high number of Unsafe Actions, such as inappropriate use of personal protective equipment or negligence in following safety procedures. In addition, Unsafe Conditions were also detected in several areas, such as unsuitability of work equipment and lack of preventive maintenance. This research provides in-depth insight into the factors causing Unsafe Actions and Unsafe Conditions so that concrete corrective measures can be taken to improve safety at the General Workshop of Medan Aviation Polytechnic. The implication of this research is expected to contribute to the development of a more effective security policy and improved work safety for cadets in carrying out activities in the workshop environment.

Abstract

Security systems are needed to maintain the safety and comfort of an area as well as on the Medan Aviation Polytechnic campus which requires a security system to protect the campus area. In an effort to maintain security and assist surveillance in the Medan Aviation Polytechnic campus area, an intrusion detection system is designed to monitor areas that are rarely reached by security officers to monitor any suspicious activity. The purpose of this design is to detect unauthorized activities so that it can assist security officers in maintaining security in the Medan Aviation Polytechnic campus environment. Artificial intelligence in this system helps to determine the target detected by the webcam, so that the buzzer will sound if the target detected is human. The results of this study show that this system is able to detect humans and Artificial Intelligence can detect humans so that the buzzer sounds when a human is detected.

Abstract

Abstract This study discusses the implementation of the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Mitigation (HIRM) system at the Electrical Workshop Laboratory of Politeknik Penerbangan Medan as part of efforts to create a safe practice environment and foster a culture of occupational safety from an early stage. The laboratory serves as a facility for students to perform practical electrical engineering activities such as soldering, panel assembly, electrical measurements, and handling heavy equipment—activities with inherently high safety risks. The research applies the HIRM approach through stages of hazard identification, risk assessment using a probability and severity matrix based on ICAO Doc 9859 standards, and the formulation of mitigation strategies. Results identified seven main activities with moderate to high-risk levels. The highest risks were found in electrical installation assembly, battery testing, and distribution panel work, which can cause electric shock or serious injuries. Recommended mitigation includes the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), regular safety training, strict implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs), and increased instructor supervision. The study concludes that HIRM is effective for implementation in vocational education settings, particularly in electrical engineering fields, and recommends the future development of digital monitoring systems for real-time risk assessment and improved laboratory safety management.. Keywords:   HIRM, Occupational Safety, Workshop Laboratory, Risk Assessment,                   Hazard Mitigation Abstrak: Penelitian ini membahas penerapan sistem Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Mitigation (HIRM) di Laboratorium Workshop Kelistrikan Politeknik Penerbangan Medan sebagai bagian dari upaya menciptakan lingkungan praktik yang aman dan mendukung budaya keselamatan kerja sejak dini. Laboratorium ini digunakan oleh mahasiswa untuk kegiatan praktik kelistrikan seperti penyolderan, perakitan panel, pengujian alat ukur, dan pengangkatan peralatan berat yang memiliki potensi risiko tinggi. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pendekatan HIRM melalui tahapan identifikasi bahaya, penilaian risiko menggunakan matriks probabilitas dan keparahan berdasarkan standar ICAO Doc 9859, serta penyusunan langkah mitigasi. Hasilnya menunjukkan tujuh aktivitas utama dengan tingkat risiko sedang hingga tinggi. Risiko tertinggi terdapat pada perakitan instalasi listrik, pengujian baterai, dan pemasangan panel distribusi yang dapat menyebabkan sengatan listrik atau luka serius. Mitigasi yang disarankan mencakup penggunaan alat pelindung diri (APD), pelatihan keselamatan kerja, penerapan SOP, serta peningkatan pengawasan dosen. Studi ini menyimpulkan bahwa sistem HIRM efektif untuk diimplementasikan di lingkungan pendidikan vokasi teknik, khususnya pada bidang kelistrikan, dan ke depan perlu dikembangkan sistem monitoring digital berbasis teknologi informasi untuk penilaian risiko secara real-time.  Kata kunci: HIRM, Keselamatan Kerja, Laboratorium Workshop, Penilaian Risiko,                    Mitigasi Bahaya

Abstract

Pencatatan peralatan listrik di bandara yang masih dilakukan secara manual sering menimbulkan kendala seperti kesalahan pencatatan, kehilangandata, dan kesulitan pelacakan histori. Untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut, dirancanglah sistem digitalisasi logbook pemeliharaan berbasis Androiddengan memanfaatkan Flutter sebagai platform pengembangan, Firebase sebagai database cloud, dan QR Code sebagai identifikasi alat. Kegiatan pemeliharaanini merujuk pada pedoman yang diatur dalam SKEP 157 Tahun 2003 tentang pemeliharaan dan pelaporan fasilitas elektronika dan listrik penerbangan. Metodepengembangan yang digunakan adalah model Waterfall, dimulai dari tahap perencanaan, perancangan, implementasi, hingga pengujian. Aplikasiyang dibangun memiliki fitur utama seperti pemindaian QR Code untuk identifikasi alat, input log pemeliharaan secara real-time, manajemen data alat,serta akses riwayat pemeliharaan. Berdasarkan hasil pengujian dan membandingkannya dengan logbook manual pemeliharaan di unit listrik Bandara IskandarPangkalan Bun, diperoleh bahwa aplikasi ini efektif membantu teknisi untuk melakukan tindakan pemeliharaan sesuai dengan checklist SKEP 157 tahun2003, efektif melihat riwayat pemeliharaan peralatan jika sewaktu-waktu diperlukan. aplikasi ini masih ada keterbatasan, belum ada menu/vasilitas untukmencetak tindakan/catatan pemeliharaan yang dilakukan teksnisi tersebut ke bentuk logbook fisik sesuai SKEP 157 tahun 2003, sehingga kedepannya perlu dilakukan pengembangan.

Abstract

Street lighting plays a vital role in ensuring safety and comfort for road users at night. However, the lighting system in Poltekbang Medan Housing Complex is still operated manually without remote monitoring, leading to potential energy waste and inefficiency. This study aims to design an Internet of Things (IoT)-based street lighting monitoring and control system that enables real-time supervision via smartphone. The research method includes literature review, hardware and software design, and system testing. The main components are the ESP32 microcontroller, PZEM-004T sensor for electrical parameter measurement, and relay module for lamp control, integrated with the Blynk application through Wi-Fi connection. Test results show that the system can accurately display electrical data and respond well to control commands, with measurement deviations remaining within acceptable tolerance. The measured lighting intensity of 84 lux closely matches the calculated value of 85.2 lux and complies with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) for secondary local roads. Therefore, the system is considered feasible as it enhances energy efficiency, accelerates fault handling, and improves safety and comfort through real-time remote monitoring and control.

Abstract

This research aims to design a VFR Corridor that can connect airports located in the province of North Sumatra, especially those airports that do not yet have a VFR Corridor. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D). Data was collected using observation, literature study, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the current condition of the VFR Corridor has not connected the eight airports in the North Sumatra region. However, the eight airports can be connected with the new VFR Corridor design consisting of three segments. This design allows VFR aircraft to follow the VFR Corridor path rather than flying direct. In addition, the VFR Corridor design also ensures that the movement of VFR aircraft will not interfere with IFR aircraft following STAR at Kualanamu Airport in Medan and Sisingamangaraja Airport. This study has implications for improving the safety and efficiency of flight operations in the North Sumatra region. With a structured and connected VFR Corridor, VFR aircraft pilots have clearer guidance in air navigation, so the risk of collisions with IFR aircraft can be minimized. In addition, this design also supports the development of aviation infrastructure in North Sumatra, especially in facilitating connectivity between airports that do not yet have a VFR Corridor.

Abstract

Keamanan dan keselamatan merupakan hal yang utama dimanapun berada termasuk dilingkungan pendidikan seperti gedung asrama delta politeknik penerbangan medan. Maka diperlukan juga fasilitas untuk meningkatkan keamanan dan keselamatan. Sistem peringatan merupakan salah satu fasilitas keamanan dan keselamatan yang berguna memberi informasi suara yang keras ketika terjadi keadaan darurat. Tujuan dari perancangan ini adalah sebagai alat pemberi informasi darurat ketika terjadi keadaan darurat ataupun bencana alam di asrama sehingga dapat mengurangi kerugian materi dan korban jiwa ketika terjadi situasi darurat. Peralatan ini dirancang menggunakan mikrokontroler dan NodeRED sehingga dapat dikontrol dan dimonitoring dari mana saja. Komunikasi antara mikrokontroler dan NodeRED tersambung melalui sistem MQTT sehingga dapat saling terhubung. Hasil rancangan ini menunjukkan sistem peringatan dapat terhubung dengan NodeRED melalui sistem MQTT. Sistem peringatan dapat dihidup dan dimatikan menggunakan NodeRED dan juga push button yang ada diperangkat keras. Dashboard dari NodeRED juga memberikan informasi tampilan saat sirene hidup,mati ataupun saat perangkat keras terhubung dengan jaringan internet. Pada masa mendatang diharapkan dapat dilakukan simulasi keadaan darurat menggunakan sistem peringatan sehingga para mahasiswa asrama delta mengetahui apa yang harus dilakukan ketika terjadi situasi darurat sesungguhnya.
