Abstract

Increased traffic volume in Indonesian cities exacerbates air pollution, posing health risks due to vehicle emissions like PM10. To mitigate this, optimizing road green belts is crucial. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of road green belts in reducing PM10 concentrations caused by motor vehicle emissions on multilevel toll roads. This study was conducted on the green belt of the Jakarta-Cikampek KM35A toll road. The concentration of PM10 were measured at a distance of 0, 10, and 30 meters from the roadside using a digital air quality detector. Measurements were taken on roads with and without roadside green belts. The research results indicate a significant difference in PM10 concentration between vegetated plots and open area plots, with the open area plots showing higher PM10 concentrations compared to the vegetated plots. The presence of green belts has a positive impact on reducing PM10 concentrations due to their ability to adsorb particulate pollutants. The presence of vegetation can reduce the average PM10 concentration by 4.91% on roadside green belts that have a width of 30 meters. The research results obtained are expected to be a reference for the government and PT Jasa Marga in planning the arrangement of green belts on multilevel toll roads.

Abstract

Promoting positive mental health is of utmost importance, especially in today's urban context, as recognized by the World Health Organization. However, the scarcity of green spaces in urban areas presents challenges for fostering a connection with nature. To address this gap, this study investigates the distinctive contribution of urban home gardens to the mental well-being of women in the Greater Jakarta Area. Through an online survey, participant backgrounds and mental well-being were assessed using the WEMWBS scale. Validity and reliability were established using Pearson's product-moment correlation and Cronbach's alpha, respectively. The study unravels several influential factors, including garden interaction (visit frequency and duration) and size. Crucially, it advances the literature by shedding light on the original contribution of urban home gardens to mental well-being. Notably, women who visit their urban home garden more than seven times a week and spend over two hours per day in their garden report the highest levels of mental well-being. These findings highlight the unique role of urban home gardens in promoting mental well-being among urban women. Consequently, they hold implications for policymakers and practitioners aiming to enhance mental well-being and foster access to green spaces in urban areas.

Abstract

Abstract

Depok is one of Jakarta’s satellite towns with density populations increasing throughout urbanization. The population growth rate of this city has gained by 1,92% in 2021 or an increase of 0,28% since 2020. As an impact of it, the transition of green open spaces (GOS) to built-up land could not be helped. The quantity of vegetation as the main material of GOS that can improve urban quality through evapotranspiration and pollutant reduction keeps dwindling. Therefore, analysis of GOS development priority was needed to prevent the diminish of the city’s ecological value based on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Land Surface Temperature (LST) and density population’s intensity in 2021 by using Landsat 8 OLI-TIRS. According to the study, Sukmajaya is one of sub-districts with highest development priority of GOS, especially in business area due to the wide-scale of its GOS is only 3,26 km2 which has NDVI is 0,31 and also its surface temperature is 30,5ºC. Meanwhile, Sawangan and Bojongsari sub-districts are the lowest priority for GOS developments due to having more than 30% of vegetation area and their surface temperature are 28,7ºC and 28,8ºC. The output of this study is a recommendation that used as a reference by the government or any stakeholders to raise awareness of GOS necessary, so the quality of urban ecology could be raised and the health of residents would be achieved.

Abstract

Landscape plant nurseries are propagation and growing areas for trees, shrubs, ground cover plants, vines, water plants and herbs that are associated with several stakeholders such as landscape consultants, maintenance companies, contractors, and ornamental plant sellers. Nurserymen play a crucial role in providing plants for landscape projects, but the limited visibility of some nurseries poses a challenge to the procurement process. To address this issue, it is necessary to conduct a study that maps the location of nurseries and creates a database in several landscape plant production centers to facilitate consumers in meeting their plant needs. The study aimed to inventory plant diversity, analyze procurement and marketing practices in various ornamental plant centers, and assess the impact of different aspects of nurseries on plant application. Conducted from November 2023 to March across 10 districts in Bogor, Cianjur, and Depok regency, the research used descriptive quantitative analysis and correlation analysis to identify relationships between various aspects of plant procurement to identify key aspect for nurseries development. The research findings indicate a considerable diversity of plants within the production centers, with a total of 805 varieties across 10 districts in Bogor, Cianjur, and Depok regency. Despite 76% of these production centers employing conventional procurement methods, they are sufficiently able to meet the plant needs of their users. The study recommends policy initiatives focusing on plant specifications and net pricing, establishing a real-time plant database, and mapping nursery distribution locations to enhance procurement efficiency, benefiting both consumers and producers.

Abstract

The rapid urbanisation and population growth in Bogor City has significantly decreased green open spaces from 1,982.23 ha in 2009 to 784.74 ha in 2021. This study aims to assess the extent of vegetation, land surface temperature (LST), and urban heat island (UHI) in Bogor City in 2023 spatially and develop recommendations for green open spaces development to mitigate UHI effects. Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS satellite imagery from July 20, 2023, was used to calculate the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Enhanced Vegetation Index (EVI), LST, and UHI intensity. The relationship between vegetation indices and LST was analyzed using RStudio to determine the required green open spaces area for reducing surface temperatures. Results showed that regions with high vegetation density had lower LST than urban areas. The UHI intensity in Bogor City was quantified by comparing urban and non urban temperatures using a 5 km buffer zone. Regression analysis revealed a significant negative correlation between vegetation indices and LST. The findings suggest that increasing green open spaces through strategic planning and development can effectively mitigate UHI effects in Bogor City, improving urban environmental quality and residents' well-being.
