Abstract

The experience of being hospitalized is often unpleasant for children. Preschoolers tend to respond to medical care with resistance and are less cooperative when they are in pain. If pain is not managed, it can lead to reduced cooperation and hinder the healing process. One nursing intervention to reduce pain involves using the distraction technique of Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) with betta fish. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of AAT using betta fish as a distraction technique to reduce pain in children undergoing invasive procedures. This study employed a quasi-experimental design using a posttest-only with control group approach. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with 60 participants aged 3–5 years, divided into 30 in the intervention group and 30 in the control group. Research data were collected using the FLACC Scale (Face, Legs, Activity, Cry, Consolability) as a measure of pain in children, and the intervention involved the use of betta fish. The median pain score in the intervention group was 3, while the median pain score in the control group was 5. Based on the results of the Mann-Whitney test, a p-value of 0.001 (0.05) was obtained, indicating that betta fish-assisted therapy is effective as a distraction technique in reducing pain in preschool children undergoing invasive procedures. Recommendations for future research include measuring pain intensity and evaluating the effects of betta fish-assisted therapy on anxiety levels, fear, physiological responses, and children’s cooperation during invasive procedures, as well as the satisfaction of parents and healthcare providers.

Abstract

Hypertension is a serious, incurable health condition. Patients with high blood pressure require lifelong treatment to control their blood pressure and prevent significant increases. One non-pharmacological therapy for lowering blood pressure is electric-based dry cupping therapy. To determine the effect of electric-based dry cupping therapy on blood pressure in hypertensive patients in Talang Village of Bayat District in Klaten. This study employed a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The sample included 37 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data collection used blood pressure measurement forms, and data analysis used a paired t-test. The researcher administered electronic cupping therapy for 15 minutes, then measured blood pressure and recorded the results on an observation sheet. The study found mean pre-test values of 157 mmHg (systolic) and 88 mmHg (diastolic), and mean post-test values of 150 mmHg (systolic) and 84 mmHg (diastolic). Bivariate analysis yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating that electric-based dry cupping therapy lowers blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Abstract

Surgery is an invasive procedure that involves opening body tissues. Preoperative anxiety is an unpleasant feeling that can induce fear. One non-pharmacological therapy for reducing preoperative anxiety is the provision of health education. To determine the effect of health education using video media on anxiety levels in preoperative patients in the Pandawa Ward at Diponegoro 21 Klaten General Hospital. This study employed a pre-experimental design, specifically a onegroup pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 52 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Data collection utilized an anxiety measurement tool based on the Amsterdam Preoperative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The study results showed a pretest median value (min-max) of 17.50 (10–22) and a posttest median value (min-max) of 12.00 (6–18). Bivariate analysis yielded a p-value of 0.001 (p<0.05); thus, it can be concluded that health education using video media affects patients experiencing preoperative anxiety. Health education using video media affects patients experiencing preoperative anxiety.
