Abstract

Abstract

North Sulawesi Province, directly bordering the Pacific Ocean, is located in an area with the highest level of tropical cyclone (TC) activity in the world. As a result, the province is vulnerable to the impacts caused by cyclones, including storm surges. The increase in water levels due to this event has the potential to cause coastal flooding. Previous studies in Manado have identified that sea level rise can be detected through residual water level (RWL), making studying the characteristics of RWL in North Sulawesi important. This research focuses on Manado and Melonguane, allowing for a comparison of characteristics. The data used includes tropical cyclone data from the China Meteorological Administration (CMA) and tidal data from the Geospatial Information Agency. The Unified Tidal Analysis and Prediction (UTide) method is used to identify RWL. The analysis was carried out by using a t-test to compare data at the two locations. The results showed that RWL at those locations had significant differences with Melonguane having the higher value between them. Generally, the increase in RWL in Melonguane occurs shortly after the cyclone period, while the RWL in Manado maximum increases 86 hours after TC's first occurrence. Keywords: tropical cyclone; residual water level; UTide.

Abstract

ABSTRACT The focus of this research is the Main Dimension Characteristics of Purse Seine Vessels based at the Tumumpa Coastal Fishing Port in Manado City, which includes the ratios or comparisons of the vessel's main sizes (LOA/BOA, LOA/D, and BOA/D), the relationships between the main sizes of the vessel (LOA vs BOA, LOA vs D, and BOA vs D), and the relationship of the main size of the vessel (LOA) with the carrying capacity (GT) and engine power (HP).The data analysis method was carried out using descriptive analysis through cross-tabulation and data presentation in the form of a curve of the relationship between the main ship sizes, the relationship between the main ship sizes, and the relationship between the main size of the ship's length (LOA) with load capacity (GT) and propulsion engine power (HP). Data analysis used the 'Curve Expert' application with a mathematical model: (1) the relationship between the main ship sizes using linear regression analysis Y=a+bx, and (2) the relationship between LOA with load capacity (GT) and propulsion engine power using non-linear regression analysis. The results of this study indicate that the comparison of the main dimensions of purse seine vessels in PPP Belang still has vessels that do not comply with the standard values proposed by Fyson (1985). There is a positive relationship between the main dimensions of the vessel (LOA/BOA, LOA/D, BOA/D) and between the main dimensions of the vessel (LOA) with load capacity (GT) and engine power (HP).

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of redesigning the hull of a small purse seine ship on its motion resistance. The research was carried out using a small purse seine ship prototype in Manado by changing the length-breath-depth ratio based on the main dimensions of the ship, resulting in three new hull designs coded K-0 (prototype), K-1, K-2, and K- 3. Maxsurf modeler and Maxsurf resistance were used to run a simulation set of three loading conditions (light, half, full) and speed (low, medium, high). The research results show that changes in ship hull design affect the resistance and thrust of the ship. There is a difference in resistance between the ship with the redesigned hull and the prototype, where the smallest difference is shown by K-3. In addition to changes in hull design, changes in ship loading conditions, Froude number, and ship speed lead to increases in ship resistance and thrust. Based on the average allowance (sea margin or service margin) in shipping lanes, the need for propulsion power and the number of propulsion power vessels K-0 (prototype) and K-3 are still better than K-1 and K-2. Abstract

This study aims to present appropriate selection methods for evaluation, analysis, and comparison between different ballast water treatment technology systems in order to make good decisions in selecting the most optimal treatment system. This research designed a ballast water filter device on the John Lie training ship to prevent marine pollution due to species movement through the ballast water transfer process by referring to the D2 standard of the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention. During the ballasting process, ballast water contains thousands of species of marine animals and plants that are carried in ballast tanks, causing problems for the marine environment and human health. The modification of the filtration tool designed by the researcher used a 0,1 mm and 0,01 mm net tied to the ballast tank inlet pipe using a clamp on the ballast pipe of the John Lie training ship. This can fully be used during the process of filling ballast water from port seawater to enter the ballast tank through this filtration system. The results shown after passing the filter with a total plate count of 36 microorganisms indicate that the filtration system designed by the researcher can meet the D2 standard of the IMO BWM Convention Regulation.
