Abstract

This study discussed the renewal of leadership models in Al-Qur'an-based pesantren. Leadership in pesantren has a major influence on its development and existence. Ibn Abbas Islamic Boarding School is interesting to study because it is modern managed. This is a case study to examine in depth the developed leadership model. The data were collected through observation, documentation, and interview, and analyzed using the Miles Huberman triangulation model, so that the results were in the form of abstractions showing their novelty. Pesantren Ibnu Abbas Klaten is led by a director who acted as a manager as well as mufti and kyai. The director supervises three educational units; the pesantren, the santri, and the school unit, which each led by a chief. Even though a director (or Kyai) has full leadership rights, the "syuro-participative" leadership model is implemented in regular meetings every week, and the deliberation results showing the participation of each existing institution. This indicated that the highest forum is at the leadership meeting, not unilaterally by the Kyai.

Abstract

Violence against women (VAW) is a global issue rooted in historical, social, and cultural structures. This study critically examines the causes, impacts, and responses to VAW through feminist perspectives, legal frameworks, and social movements. It explores how gender-based violence persists due to patriarchal norms, economic disparities, and systemic inequalities. Additionally, the research highlights how religious interpretations influence perceptions of gender roles, with a particular focus on Islamic education. From an Islamic perspective, VAW contradicts the principles of justice, equality, and compassion embedded in the Qur’an and Hadith. However, cultural misinterpretations often obscure these teachings, leading to practices that perpetuate gender-based oppression. Islamic education plays a crucial role in shaping societal attitudes by promoting gender justice and educating communities about women’s rights. Through an inclusive and holistic curriculum, Islamic educational institutions can challenge patriarchal norms and cultivate a culture of non-violence. This study emphasizes that combating VAW requires a multidimensional approach, integrating legal measures, social interventions, and educational strategies. Strengthening Islamic education as a means of fostering ethical awareness and respect for women’s rights can contribute significantly to reducing violence and promoting gender equity.

Abstract

The persistent challenges facing elementary education in Indonesia—ranging from inadequacies in curriculum design and instructional delivery to inefficiencies in resource management—necessitate transformative school leadership. This study critically investigates the strategic role of principals in improving educational quality through the integrated implementation of seven core leadership functions: as educator, manager, administrator, supervisor, leader, innovator, and motivator. Employing a qualitative case study design in Kasihan District, Bantul Regency, data were obtained through in-depth interviews, direct observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that effective principals drive curricular relevance and innovation, foster collaborative pedagogical planning, and promote the integration of educational technologies. Moreover, they facilitate continuous professional development, ensure transparent and efficient resource utilization, and nurture strong community engagement. The study concludes that school principals act as pivotal agents in cultivating adaptive, inclusive, and innovation-oriented learning environments. It recommends capacity-building programs for school leaders and teachers, enhanced governance mechanisms, and strengthened stakeholder partnerships. These insights contribute to both the practical discourse on educational leadership development and the broader theoretical understanding of strategic school governance within decentralized educational systems.

Abstract

Street children in Central Java, Indonesia, often experience severe socio-economic challenges such as poverty, family instability, and a lack of social support, which lead to vulnerability to exploitation and abuse. This study explores the impact of Islamic educational interventions on improving their well-being and integration. A qualitative case study approach was used, with data collected from January to June 2024 through semi-structured interviews, participant observations, focus group discussions, and document analysis across three locations in Semarang. The study included 30 participants, including both current and senior members of Majelis Mafia Sholawat, tutors, mentors, and group leaders. Findings indicate that Islamic education initiatives enhance reasoning, moral development, emotional well-being, and self-awareness among street children. These programs adopt a holistic approach, addressing emotional, spiritual, and practical needs, and foster a sense of community and belonging. The study highlights the effectiveness of culturally sensitive educational strategies in promoting socio-economic opportunities and social integration for street children. The inclusion of community-centered, religious-based education appears crucial in addressing the unique challenges faced by these children. The findings suggest that policymakers and educators should consider culturally relevant educational programs that integrate local languages, customs, mentorship, and life skills training. Such initiatives can promote sustained engagement, improve socio-economic prospects, and support the overall integration of street children into society.
