Abstract

Perception of oral hygiene has a major impact on life expectancy worldwide, but in middle-income countries it is a problem, where oral health problems in Indonesia affect as much as 57.6% of the population. A semi-experimental study was conducted on October 30, 2024 on students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School, Kediri City, East Java, Indonesia. The study method was carried out offline (face-to-face) using a mixture of presentation media (power point) and booklets. The socialization participants were divided into two parts: pre-socialization (pre-test) and post-socialization (post-test). The socialization participants were given questions to assess their knowledge and perceptions of oral health before and after the socialization. Participants' knowledge was classified as sufficient, moderate, and low in understanding oral hygiene before and after the socialization. This counseling was carried out as part of a collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of the Bhakti Wiyata Institute of Health Sciences (IIK) and the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG) of the University of Sains Malaysia (USIM). This counseling aims to improve dental health knowledge of students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School so that it is hoped that it can reduce the DMF-t rate in students at Al-Marusiyah Elementary School. Keywords: Dental health; Oral health; Elementary school students; Faculty of Dentistry Institute Health Science Bhakti Wiyata; Faculty of Dentistry Universiti Sains Malaysia.

Abstract

Handling anxiety can be done pharmacologically or non-pharmacologically. Several non-pharmacological therapies that can be used to reduce anxiety levels include relaxation therapy, sound therapy, and aromatherapy. Some examples of sound therapy are classical music therapy and murottal Al-Qur'an. The Aim of this research is to determine the effect of classical music therapy and Al-Qur'an murottal therapy on the patient's anxiety level before tooth extraction by observing changes in blood pressure before and after listening to classical music and Al-Qur'an murottal. This type of research is quasi-experimental with a pretest-posttest design. The research sample consisted of 30 patients with indications for tooth extraction divided into 2 groups: the group that was given classical music therapy Sonata in D major for two pianos, and the group that was given murottal therapy Al-Qur'an Al-Insyirah Surah and its translation and then assessed blood pressure before and after giving classical music therapy and murottal Al-Qur'an therapy. The distribution of patient anxiety which is known through the MDAS-Modification questionnaire shows that anxiety is in the moderate category. The Paired T-test results on blood pressure values of each pre and post intervention treatment group showed a p-value for classical music systole was 0.132, classical music diastole was 0.148, Qur'an murottal systole was 0.000, and Al-Qur'an murottal diastolic was 0.000. The results of the Independent T-test on blood pressure values between the two pre and post-intervention treatment groups were p-value systole of classical music and murottal Al-Qur'an was 0.000, and diastolic classical music and murottal Al-Qur'an was 0.000. The conclusion is listening to classical music and murottal Al-Qur'an can reduce patients' anxiety before tooth extraction. Murottal Al-Qur'an reduces patient anxiety before tooth extraction better than classical music

Abstract

The gonial angle through radiomorphometry can be used in determining gender because it is the part of the mandible that experiences quite prominent and large transformative changes. Gender is an important parameter in identification. This study aims to determine whether there are differences in the size of the gonial angle through radiomorphometry in determining sex on panoramic radiographs aged ≥ 20 years. The method used analytical observational methods with a cross sectional approach and total sampling was 52 research samples (21 men and 31 women) gonial angle on panoramic radiography. The results showed that there was a significant difference in the size of the mandibular gonial angle between men and women. This study concludes that the gonial angle via radiomorphometry can be used to determine gender in panoramic radiography.

Abstract

Background: Natural disasters frequently occur in Indonesia, creating a need for effective victim identification. Gender identification is a crucial initial step, as it can narrow the search space by 50% during individual identification. The corpus and ramus mandible are an organ that plays an important role in gender prediction with a high predictive accuracy. However, the Down syndrome mandibular size is different from that of normal people. Purpose: To analyze the difference in corpus length and total height of the mandibular ramus between individuals with down syndrome and those without, as a step to gender determination. Method: This observational cross-sectional study involved 12 individuals with down syndrome and 12 individuals without, aged 10 – 17 years. The mandibular corpus length was measured through panoramic radiography from the gonion to the menton point. The mandibular ramus was measured from the apex of the condyle to the gonion point using the Clinicview application. Data were analyzed using the T-test with SPSS Ver. 26 software. Result: The length of the mandibular corpus differs significantly (p-value = 0.000) between Down syndrome with normal people. The length of the mandibular corpus in down syndrome does not differ significantly (p-value > 0.000) between males and females. The total height of the mandibular ramus does not differ significantly between down syndrome and non-down syndrome groups, both in males and females. Conclusion: The corpus length and the mandibular ramus's total height cannot be used as indicators of gender determination in down syndrome.

Abstract

The mandibular third molar (38/48) is the tooth with the highest prevalence of impact. Impacted teeth 38 and 48 often cause pathological complications that require extraction; and for that it is very important considering the level of difficulty. This study aims to determine the level of difficulty of extraction of the impacted third molar tooth through panoramic radiography using the Pederson Scoring System (PSS). This observational study involved 91 panoramic radiographs from patients > 20 years old with lower third molar teeth that had an impact at RSGMP University of Jember, patient data on radiographs is complete, coverage (region of interest / ROI) is sufficient and visual quality is good. The level of extraction difficulty was assessed using PSS, and categorized into low, medium and high. The data obtained were analyzed descriptively. This study used 144 impacted lower third molars from 91 patients; 61 from male and 83 from females; 73 teeth (50.69%) occurred in the right region and 71 teeth (49.31%) occurred in the left region. In male samples, 31 teeth (50.82%) occurred in the right region and 30 teeth (49.18%) occurred in the left region; Meanwhile, in the female sample, 43 teeth (51.81%) occurred in the right region and 40 teeth (48.19%) occurred in the left region. Based on PSS index, 4.86% had a low risk of extraction difficulty, 65.28% moderate and 29.86% high. The conclusion of this study is that the level of difficulty in extracting mandibular third molars at RSGMP Jember University is mostly (65%) moderate difficulty
