Abstract

Indonesia has many Malay speakers and it spreads to Papua with the influence of Ambon and Indonesian becomes one of the variations in the Papuan Malay dialect. Papuan itself is the home of 275 languages that are 218 non-Austronesian or Papuan (79%) and 57 languages are Austronesian (21%) (Lewis et al. 2013 cited in Kludge, 2014). Moreover, the influence of Ambon and the North Moluccan Malay, and Indonesia played an important role especially in the formation of Papuan Malay (Paauw, 2008). Papuan Malay language is spoken by the inhabitants of the West Papua and uses as the daily language (Kludge, 2014). The formation of Papuan Malay has the uniqueness because it uses deletion some syllables but does not have the impact of the meaning. This study aims to know and explain the process of clipping word of Papuan Malay as well as their word classes. The Data come from the video of MOB Papua.  Besides that, the method used in this study is a Padan method with comparing other langue. Therefore, this study appears the history and role of Papuan Malay and compare the Indonesian with Papua Malay to find the clipping word process in Papuan Malay.

Abstract

Studi pendahuluan tentang penggunaan air dalam kaitannya dengan pemanfaatan dan tingkat kemajuan tekno-hidrologi ini dimaksudkan untuk menjajagi kemungkinan diadakannya suatu penelitian yang mendalam mengenai topik di atas di kemudian hari. Seperti diketahui bahwa air tidak dapat lepas dari kehidupan makhluk di muka bumi, termasuk kehidupan manusia. Bukti-bukti tertua juga menunjukkan bahwa sisa-sisa kehidupan manusia tertua ditemukan di tepi sungai (R. P. Soejono, 1977: 108 - 109 dan T. Jacob, 1972 : 143 - 157 ). Manusia, dalam tingkat kehidupan yang paling sederhana pun tampaknya tidak dapat terhindar dari kebutuhan air, sekalipun pola hidupnya belum menetap.

Abstract

Research in archaeology has recently grown rapidly in line with the development of science and technology. This development is not only evident from the selection of sites, the application of theory and methodology, the use of methods and techniques, but also the selection and appearance of research subjects. Archaeology, which at the beginning of its development was only known as a hobby, is not surprising if the focus of attention was initially focused on objects that have artistic value. In subsequent developments observers are not only interested in objects that have artistic value, but also those that have no artistic value and even reach a level of attention to the complexities of relations between objects that can reflect various aspects of human life in the past.

Abstract

In fact, the development of archaeological research in Indonesia is not in line with the knowledge and perception of the wider community about that field of science. On the one hand, research shows a very rapid development, while on the other hand the community always considers that the archaeological study area is limited to areas and temples, or recently limited to skulls and fossils. This is due, among other things, to the limited scientific publications that can be enjoyed by the wider community, even if their distribution is very limited. Another reason, especially is the lack of public interest and attention to the field of archeology in particular and the field of culture in general, which is considered unable to directly provide material benefits.

Abstract

Di antara berbagai sumber penulisan sejarah kuna, prasasti menduduki peringkat teratas, karena prasasti ditulis pada masa yang bersamaan dengan peristiwanya. Meskipun demikian tidak banyak yang dapat diungkap dari prasasti dan sebaliknya prasasti tidak dapat memberikan infonnasi yang utuh atau menyeluruh tentang sesuatu aspek. Oleh karena itu penggunaan prasasti sebagai sumber sejarah harus melalui prosedur yang disebut penafsiran (interpretasi).

Abstract

Metaphor is one cultural artifact that contains the values of a society to represent their ideas. Metaphorical expressions can be used as a basis for fostering a sense of solidarity, a spirit of cooperation, and human resource development. This exploratory research aims to explain metaphors used in ceremonial activities of Batak Toba tribe, the preservation of cultural values rooted in local linguistic treasures, revealed in the Batak Toba daily life. The data were obtained through a reading on Batak Tobanese literature about the life of the Batak society in ancient times. The validation study was conducted by in-depth interviews with experts on Batak Toba culture. The results showed that the types of methaphor used by Batak tribe is influenced by their traditional ways of life. Metaphors in Batak Toba show that the Tobanese have high solidarity. All types of metaphors in Batak Toba language motivate their communities to work hard and maintain solidarity, as well as helping other people around them. They should be maintained in the present life to gain peace, happiness, and quality of society lives.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all aspects, including education. This phenomenon has drastically changed the teaching and learning interactions in schools. This change shocked teachers and students unprepared for competence, subject matter, and technology, including psychology. For that constraint, the authors are interested in contributing their ideas/thoughts in the form of developing active learning materials for English online classes based on a genre-based approach for VIII grade junior high school students. The researchers developed the product through development research (RD) involving a sample of 114 VIII grade junior high school students and 3 English teachers. Through needs analysis of respondents, researchers can map the objectives and learning materials needed by respondents. Researchers use this need analysis to develop online-based learning materials. The final product is a supplementary online book consisting of 6 units with different themes. From the results of field trials, it is known that this book is very well received by the user, in this case, the VIII grade students and English teachers of SMP/MTs.

Abstract

The literature on the teaching of English at higher education in Indonesia reflects that both English and non-English departments pay equal attention to the four language skills, namely speaking, listening, reading, and writing. However, there are still issues in the teaching of speaking skills especially in the English instruction for the non-English majors. This research tried to solve the issues using interventions in the form of learning materials focused on speaking skills based on Natural Order Hypothesis by Brown (1973), Burt (1974, 1975), and Krashen (1982, 2009, 2013) as well as the lesson plans used in the teaching of English for non-English majors in a state university in Yogyakarta. The materials were validated by subject experts and a field trial involving participants of 30 non-English department students was conducted. The effectiveness of the materials was measured using a validated instrument that had been pilot-tested to 10 respondents of the same backgrounds as the participants of the field trial. The research instrument utilized Sugiyono’s (2015) formula with the results showing a percentage of 86.37 out of a possible 100%, which means that the materials are in the category of ‘highly acceptable’.

Abstract

Penggunaan teknologi dalam dunia pendidikan dapat diterapkan dalam pembelajaran bahasa asing khususnya pembelajaran Bahasa Prancis. Teknologi dapat dimanfaatkan pada penerapan model pembelajaran hybrid learning yang berfokus pada penggunaan teknologi. Hybrid Learning sendiri merupakan model pembelajaran yang menekankan proses pemerolehan keterampilan dan pengetahuan yang dikembangkan melalui desain pembelajaran yang mengintegrasikan pembelajaran tradisional dengan model online berbasis teknologi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat hasil belajar mahasiswa keterampilan berbicara mahasiswa menggunakan model pembelajaran hybrid learning dan mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah penerapannya dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan mixed-method dengan desain kuasi eksperimen untuk mengukur hasil belajar mahasiswa dan metode deksriptif untuk mendeskripsikan langkah-langkah penerapannya. Keterampilan berbicara merupakan keterampilan berbahasa yang wajib dikuasai untuk bisa berkomunikasi dengan Bahasa Prancis, sayangnya kemampuan berbahasa Prancis mahasiswa masih dinilai kurang. Melalui hybrid learning mahasiswa akan lebih mudah meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Prancis karena mereka berkesempatan untuk menggali informasi seluas-luasnya melalui teknologi dan internet. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode ini cocok digunakan dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Prancis karena dari hasil pengukuran yang dilakukan menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh penggunaan model hybrid learning dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Prancis. Kemudian untuk penerapannya terdapat 11 langkah mulai dari pemilihan pembelajaran online, pemilihan media dan teknologi yang digunakan hingga refleksi kegiatan.Kata kunci: hybrid learning, keterampilan berbicara, bahasa Prancis Hybrid learning in learning French speaking skills AbstractThe use of technology in education can be applied in learning foreign languages, especially learning French. Technology can be utilized in the application of a hybrid learning model that focuses on the use of technology. Hybrid Learning is a learning model that emphasizes acquiring skills and knowledge developed through learning designs that integrate traditional learning with technology-based online models. This study aims to see student learning outcomes of student speaking skills using a hybrid learning model and describe the steps of its application in the learning process. This study uses mixed-method with a quasi-experimental design to measure student learning outcomes and descriptive methods to describe the implementation steps. Speaking skills are language skills that must be mastered to be able to communicate in French, unfortunately, students' French language skills are still considered lacking. Through hybrid learning, students will find it easier to improve their French speaking skills because they have the opportunity to explore the widest possible information through technology and the internet. The results showed that this method was suitable for learning French speaking skills because the measurements showed an effect of using a hybrid learning model in learning French speaking skills. Then there are 11 steps for the implementation, from choosing online learning, choosing media and technology used to reflecting on activities.Keywords: hybrid learning, speaking skill, French

Abstract

This study aims to describe the themes and attitudes of the community towards news about the Covid-19 pandemic on WhatsApp. By conducting critical discourse analysis, it is hoped that an understanding will be formed that can enlighten the public on how to interpret and understand the information about the COVID-19 pandemic that they receive through the WhatsApp application and be selective in sending this information to others. The results of the study show the following. Fisrt, the attitude of affection contains 4 themes, namely religious, health, education, and economic themes. There are two functions of a religious theme, namely a request to God and an expression of gratitude. The health theme has three functions, namely an invitation to maintain progress, vaccination recommendations, and health humour. The theme of education is represented in the form of public attitudes regarding the readiness of universities for offline learning. The function of the economic theme is related to expressions of concern and ironism towards the deteriorating Indonesian economy. Second, the attitude of the community's cognition is realized with the theme of health which has the function of protest, fake news, and health humour. Thirth, dehavioral attitudes carry three themes, namely health, education, and economy. The function of the health theme is behaviour in responding to the funeral process for Covid-19 victims and vaccination. The function of the educational theme is related to the behaviour of the community towards the preparation of offline learning. The economic theme is represented by behavioural deviations from health protocols during the implementation of PPKM.Keywords: discourse analysis, attitude, covid-19, WA SIKAP MASYARAKAT TERHADAP BERITA PANDEMI COVID-19 ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskipsikan tema dan sikap masyarakat terhadap berita tentang pandemi Covid-19 di WhatsApp. Dengan melakukan analisis wacana kritis, diharapkan akan terbentuk pemahaman yang dapat mencerahkan masyarakat bagaimana memaknai dan memahami informasi tentang pandemi covid-19 yang mereka terima melalui aplikasi WhatsApp dan selektif dalam mengirimkan informasi tersebut ke orang lain. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan hal-hal sebagai berikut. Pertama, sikap afeksi memuat 4 tema yaitu tema religius, kesehatan, pendidikan, dan ekonomi. Ada dua fungsi tema religius yaitu permohonan kepada Tuhan dan ungkapan syukur. Tema kesehatan memiliki tiga fungsi yaitu ajakan menjaga prokes, anjuran vaksinasi, dan humor kesehatan. Tema pendidikan direpresentasikan dalam bentuk sikap masyarakat terkait kesiapan perguruan tinggi dalam pembelajaran luring. Fungsi tema ekonomi berkaitan dengan ungkapan kekhawatiran dan ironisme terhadap ekonomi indonesia yang semakin memburuk. Kedua, sikap kognisi masyarakat diwujudkan dengan tema kesehatan yang memiliki fungsi protes, berita bohong, dan humor kesehatan. Ketiga, sikap perilaku mengusung tiga tema yaitu kesehatan, pendidikan, dan ekonomi. Fungsi tema kesehatan adalah perilaku menyikapi proses pemakaman korban Covid-19, dan vaksinasi. Fungsi tema pendidikan berkaitan dengan perilaku masyarakat terhadap persiapan pembelajaran luring. Tema ekonomi direpresentasikan dengan penyimpangan perilaku terhadap protokol kesehatan di tengah pemberlakuan PPKM.Kata kunci : analisis wacana, sikap, covid-19, WA
