Abstract

The utilization of Industrial Waste Sodium Trypolyphosphate to be used as struvite fertilizer is still very few. Sodium Trypolyphosphate Industrial Waste has a very high phosphate content, which is 21610 mg/l. Struvite is one type of inorganic fertilizer, where this fertilizer is a slow-release fertilizer. This fertilizer is known as Magnesium, Ammonium, Phosphate. The main objective of this study was to determine the best temperature and molar ratio in the formation and quality of the struvite produced. In this study, uses a device in the form of a Bulkhead Column Reactor, with the help of air as a stirrer. The process with the Bulk Column Reactor is carried out using several variables, namely the temperature variable and the molar ratio variable. The temperature used is 30oC. As for the molar ratio, it is, 1:1:1; 2:1:1 and 3:1:1. The best results from this study were at a temperature of 30oC with a molar ratio of 3 : 1: 1, where the struvite produced had a magnesium content of 3.8% and a phosphate content of 33.8%.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest palm oil-producing countries globally, with a production value of 40 million tons by 2020. Biodiesel is one of the alternative energy sources that can be processed from palm oil. Diesel engines can directly use biodiesel as a fuel. Biodiesel has distinct characteristics from diesel; thus, it will affect performance and other things on the engine. In this research, diesel engine performance tests were carried out, including specific fuel consumption (SFC), cylinder head temperature, cylinder block, and exhaust pipe, with a test time of 300 hours. This research aims to determine the effect of the cylinder head, cylinder block, and exhaust pipe temperatures on SFC using two different fuels, i.e., B100 and B20. Based on the test results, the average cylinder head, cylinder block, and exhaust pipe temperatures on the B100 engine are 136 oC, 130 oC, and 257 oC. As for the B20 engine's cylinder head, block, and exhaust pipe temperatures are 139 oC, 132 oC, and 264 oC. Engine with B100 fuel obtained SFC of 0.317 kg/kW.hour and engine with B20 fuel obtained SFC of 0.276 kg/kW.hour. In general, the combustion temperature in the cylinder head affects the increase in SFC in both engines with different fuels; the higher the combustion temperature in the cylinder head, the higher the SFC is. Engines with B100 fuel have a higher SFC value than B20 fuel, which is influenced by the higher viscosity and density values; thus, the droplets from the fuel atomization process become larger when compared to fuels with lower viscosity and density values. The graph analysis shows that the cylinder block temperature graph on the B100 and B20 fueled engines decreases between temperatures of 133-134 oC, then inflates with the increase in specific fuel consumption. The higher temperature compared to the B100 fuel engine makes the fuel undergo complete combustion when injected into the combustion chamber due to atomization or very fine droplets burning completely. The cylinder block temperature chart on the B100 and B20 fueled engines has a very significant trend difference. B100 engines tend to experience a decreasing trend in temperature along with an increase in SFC, while B20 engines tend to experience an increasing temperature trend along with an increase in SFC.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite (Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) is one of the biomaterials that can be used for replacement bones for survivors of fractures that can be caused by accidents or natural disasters. Hydroxyapatite biomaterials are now a necessity, but the high price of imported hydroxyapatites has resulted in difficulties in obtaining them. The purpose of this study is to synthesize calcium phosphate from the eggshells of purebred chickens so that they can be used as raw materials for making hydroxyapatite. The stages in the manufacture of calcium phosphate are calcination as a pretreatment process of purebred chicken egg shells which is continued with the synthesis process. The research variables used are variations in phosphoric acid concentrations and also pH variations. The results presented were regarding calcium content through XRF analysis, diffraction patterns from calcium phosphate through XRD analysis, and morphology of calcium phosphate through SEM analysis. From the results of the analysis, it can be used as a reference for the characteristics of calcium phosphate which will be used as a raw material for making hydroxyapatite.

Abstract

Currently, the need for clean water which is a vital source for people's lives has not been fully met for all Indonesians, including the mountain farming community, Jajar Village, Gandusari District, Trenggalek Regency. So far, the mountain farming community members of Jajar Village have used mountain water for household needs where cloudy and unstable water conditions are a problem that must be faced. If this problem continues, it will lead to serious health problems and social conflicts in the community. Therefore, through community service activities, we made a practical clean water treatment tool, with easily obtained materials, that can be implemented in hilly areas such as in Jajar Village, Gandusari District, Trenggalek Regency. The filtration system used is an upflow and downflow system where the water undergoes a filtration process twice in the material that has been selected and arranged in a systematic way. The materials used are available and easy to obtain in Jajar Village, so that people can discover easily about the benefits of these materials. After making a water filtration system with the community, then physical testing is conducted on the quality of the water produced. From the test results of the effectiveness of the implementation of clean water treatment technology applied to mountain farmers in Jajar Village, it shows that in general the filtered water has met the physical requirements for the level of turbidity, taste, and smell, as well as the quantity and continuity of water are always available when needed.

Abstract

Persaingan dunia kerja yang semakin ketat dan jumlah lapangan pekerjaan yang terbatas menuntut SDM berkualitas tinggi agar mampu bersaing secara nasional maupun global. Pendidikan vokasi memiliki peran melahirkan siswa dengan keahlian tinggi yang ditunjang berbagai kompetensi yang sesuai dengan perkembangan dunia industri. Salah satu kompetensi keahlian di SMK Turen Kabupaten Malang adalah program pendidikan keahlian Teknik Permesinan. Penggunaan software untuk keperluan gambar teknik yang biasa digunakan di Industri seperti Solidworks yang menawarkan banyak fitur desain/ perancangan serta dilengkapi fitur simulasi gerak, mechanical, simulation dsb. masih belum banyak diketahui oleh tenaga pengajar. Prodi Teknik Mesin UPNVJT turut serta mengambil andil dalam pengembangan SDM Indonesia melalui skema pengabdian masyarakat di LPPM UPNVJT yaitu Pemanfaatan IPTEKS Bagi Masyarakat (PIKAT). Tujuan dari kegiatan ini adalah untuk menyelenggarakan pelatihan kepada tenaga pengajar di SMK Turen Kabupaten Malang untuk membantu meningkatkan kompetensi pada bidang desain, perancangan dan simulasi. Metode yang dipakai pada kegiatan ini adalah pelatihan dalam bentuk workshop dan praktikum dengan project base learning. Pelatihan ini memiliki target peningkatan kemampuan tenaga pengajar dalam bidang desain dan perancangan khususnya pada simulasi pembebanan statis, sehingga kedepannya dapat dijadikan materi dalam kurikulum pembelajaran di SMK Turen Malang. Berdasarkan kegiatan pelatihan yang telah dijalankan maka didapatkan hasil berupa peningkatan pengetahuan dari guru-guru di SMK Turen Malang terkait dengan penggunaan software Solidworks baik untuk kebutuhan desain maupun simulasi.

Abstract

Abstrak-Teknologi biogas dari kotoran sapi merupakan salah satu alternatif sumber energi pengganti bahan bakar minyak pada masyarakat pedesaan sekaligus mengatasi masalah limbah organik di pedesaan sebagai sumber energi alternatif biogas. Biogas merupakan hasil proses pembusukan limbah organik secara anaerobic menjadi energi yang berfungsi sebagai pengganti bahan bakar minyak. Masyarakat desa Pancong Kecamatan Waru Timur di kabupaten Pamekasan sebagian besar mata pencaharian sebagai petani dan peternak. Khususnya petani/peternak di desa Pancong memiliki 2-3 sapi dan tidak menyadari bahwa kotoran sapi dapat menjadi bahan bakar alternatif (biogas). Metode menggunakan penyuluhan/pelatihan tentang pembuatan dan instalasi biogas sederhana, serta pendampingan dalam memproduksi biogas. Pelatihan diikuti oleh peternak/petani dan dilakukan di lokasi peternak desa Pancong kecamatan Waru Timur kabupaten Pamekasan. Perolehan produksi biogas dari kotoran sapi menghasilkan biogas yang terbentuk dialirkan ke penampung gas plastik. Gas terbentuk setelah diisi campuran kotoran sapi dan air (1:1), dan tercapai pada hari ke-6. Selanjutnya gas dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan bakar. Setelah berproduksi perlu pengisian setiap hari. Biogas dapat digunakan untuk memasak sebagai kebutuhan sehari-hari dan produk samping (slurry) dapat dimanfaatkan untuk pupuk organik dan pakan ikan.

Abstract

The presence of ammonium content in cow urine waste damages the aquatic ecosystem due to its toxicity. Ammonium content can be reduced by removing it through struvite crystallization. In this study, struvite (MgNH4PO4.6H2O) was formed from the reaction of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate compounds using a bulkhead reactor. The rate of air moving the solution in the reactor causes ammonium to react with reactants to form struvite. This research was conducted with M : A : P (magnesium ammonium phosphate) molar ratio solution is 3 : 1 : 1 and 0,4 L/min air flow rate with MAP flow rate variation of 8,8; 11; 14,67; 22; 44 ml/min and a temperature variation of 25, 35, 45, 55, 65 ̊C to decrease ammonium content. The faster the MAP flow rate, thelower the ammonium removal efficiency. The efficiency of ammonium removal will increase with increasing temperature. The best results obtained in this study were ammonium removal in the waste of 77.97%. The result of x-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) is the crystals tested was a struvite with elongated or rod shape. EDAX analysis gave the percentage of components in struvite, namely 14.28% Mg, 10.68% N, and 18.19% P.

Abstract

Struvite is a white crystalline chemical known as magnesium ammonium phosphorus hexahydrate (MgNH4PO4.6H2O). Struvite is soluble in acidic conditions and slightly soluble in neutral and alkaline conditions. In industry, struvite is known as scale in pipes. Urinary stones can be called struvite because struvite crystals can form easily in the urine of animals and humans infected with ammonia organisms produced in the urine. Struvite can potentially be formed by alkaline urine and high magnesium excretion due to a high magnesium plant- based diet. The formation of struvite minerals is carried out in an insulated reactor by mixing a solution of MgCl2, NH4OH, and H3PO4 in a ratio of 1:1:1. The treatment of struvite mineral formation was carried out with a feed inlet rate of 35 ml/minute, the temperature at the reactor was carried out at 30oC while the intake air rate was carried out in the range of 0.25-1.25 liters/min. The pH of the solution was kept at a value of 9. The process was carried out until a steady state was reached.  The formation of struvite minerals using an insulated column reactor was obtained at conditions of pH 9, operating temperature of 30oC and air rate of 1.25L/min.

Abstract

Struvite was a white crystal known as Magnesium Ammonium Phosphate Hexahydrate (MgNH4PO4.6H2O). In industry, struvite was found in the pipes crust which the hot fluid through passes. Struvite is often used as fertilizer because it contains phosphate content. The one of benefits of struvite crystals is slow release fertilizer, so it can be more durable, which is good for the growth of the plants. The Precipitation technology is currently one of the most widely applied technologies in struvite formation. The process of forming struvite is carried out by using a vertical reactor. The process started by mixing the equimolar solutions of MgCl2, NH4OH, and H3PO4 with a concentration ratio of 1: 1: 1 and 1: 1: 2. Theprocess was carried out with the condition at the 30°C while the air inlet rate was 1.25 liters/min. The pH of the solution is pH 9 and controlled using NaOH solution. The process was carried out in the steady state condition. Then the solution was filtered and solid was dried at room temperature for 48 hours. From this study, the concentration ratio of 1:1:2 was obtained the best of struvite compared to the others ratio. The solid was analyzed by using the SEM-EDX instrument. The morphology of struvite was formed an irregular pyramid like crystal or commonly referred to as an authorhombic shape.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to investigate the wear mechanism of UHMWPE acetabular liner. There were three samples of acetabular liner with variations without crosslink, with crosslink doses of 50 kGy and 100 kGy which were subjected to a wear testing process. The wear test was carried out using a Tribometer wear testing machine with a total of 30,000 cycles and a load of 800N. Microstructure analysis was performed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the surface of the UHMWPE acetabular liner with the crosslink treatment is smoother than the untreated one. This shows that UHMWPE with crosslink treatment has a lower wear rate, where the greater the crosslink dose the lower the wear rate. The wear mechanism that occurs in this study is the third body abrasion which leads to adhesive wear.
