Abstract

African Swine Fever (ASF) and Hog Cholera are highly contagious viral diseases in pigs, resulting in losses for pig farmers in Manokwari regency. Farmers cannot avoid panic and resignation. The study aimed to measure pig farmers' attitudes and knowledge about these infectious diseases. Farmers were selected from 12 villages and originated from 8 big ethnics from Papuan and non-Papuan. The findings show that most breeders are still in the early stages of their farming careers and have a long experience. Farmers tend to show concern about African Swine Fever and Hog Cholera. However, their attitudes towards pig diseases are considered less than optimal. Most farmers have fairly good knowledge about African Swine Fever and Hog Cholera. The primary source of information for farmers is obtained from other communities, indicating an exchange of information between pig farmers and the community.

Abstract

This study investigates the trends in goat population and meat production in Papua and West Papua from 2000 to 2023, analyzing the relationship between population growth, production output, and key management factors. Using secondary data from official sources such as the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Department of Animal Husbandry, the study employs descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation, and both linear and non-linear regression models. The results indicate a significant positive correlation between goat population and meat production, particularly in Papua, where a cubic regression model explained 61.9% of the variability in production. In contrast, West Papua showed a weaker relationship with more fluctuations in production trends. The study underscores the importance of sustainable management practices, including feed quality and health care, to optimize goat production. These findings provide insights into improving goat farming in these regions through targeted interventions and policy alignment with national agricultural strategies.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Birahi, Intra Muskuler, Intra Uteri, Sapi, SinkronisasiComparison of the efficiency of birahi synchronization with intra-muscular and intra-uterine methods using PGF2α in beef cattle ABSTRACT.  This study aims to determine the effectiveness between the two methods (IM and IU) and the factors that can influence it on the estrus synchronization of beef cattle. This experimental study used 60 productive female cattle obtained randomly and divided into two groups, then estrus synchronized (SE) was carried out using the IM and IU methods. The parameters observed were the duration of the emergence of estrus based on the breed of livestock and body condition scores. The research data were analyzed using t-test and regression correlation test. The results showed that most of the female cows gave an estrus response to the administration of PGF2α hormone preparations and the IM method was slower to induce estrus than IU. The Limousine cattle breed with the IU method has the fastest average occurrence of estrus and the slowest is the Bali cattle breed with the IU method. The BCS value has a significant correlation with the estrus response. Conclusion: technically the IU method is more effective and efficient in use in the field.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  This community service activity aimed to improve the technical compliance of qurban animal slaughter based on halal principles and animal welfare standards at Darul Ulum Mosque, Amban Village, West Manokwari District, Manokwari Regency. A case study approach with participatory techniques was employed, involving certified Halal Slaughterers (Juleha), qurban committees, university students, and experts. The activities covered antemortem inspection, slaughtering, postmortem examination, and meat distribution. The results showed that the slaughtering process was conducted in accordance with Islamic Sharia principles, ensuring the proper severance of the three main channels efficiently and swiftly. Postmortem inspection revealed parasitic infestations (fasciola hepatica and parampistomon) in several organs, which were handled appropriately following established protocols. Improvements are still needed in animal holding facilities, particularly regarding feed, water supply, and sanitation prior to slaughter. This program significantly enhanced the technical capacity of Juleha and the qurban committee, strengthening the implementation of halalan thayyiban and animal welfare principles at the mosque community level. Keywords: Animal welfare; halal slaughter; Juleha; postmortem inspection; qurban   ABSTRAK Kegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kepatuhan teknis penyembelihan hewan qurban sesuai prinsip halal dan kesejahteraan hewan (animal welfare) di Masjid Darul Ulum, Kelurahan Amban, Distrik Manokwari Barat, Kabupaten Manokwari. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah studi kasus dengan teknik partisipatif, melibatkan Juru Sembelih Halal (Juleha), panitia qurban, mahasiswa, dan tenaga ahli.
