Abstract

The impact of flooding will increase with the occurrence of climate change and population growth in an area, one of which is on the banks of the Kampar River, Kampar District, Kampar Regency. Then needed efforts to prevent flooding and overcome it. One of them is by analyzing flood risk using spatial data analysis with the help of ArcGIS technology and the application of HEC-RAS to provide an overview the level of flood danger, the level of vulnerability, the level of flood risk and preventive measures that can be done. The results showed that the area of flood inundation occurred in residential areas, rice fields, and plantation. Based on the results of the analysis of the hazard level in 5 times and the total level of vulnerability, obtained 5 levels of risk according to the time period, namely, a very low risk level of 91.7%, low 4.9%, moderate 0.3%, high 0.4%, and very high 2.8% of total area of research. The level of risk is very high spread evenly around the riverbanks of Kampar District. one of the structural efforts in reducing the risk of flooding in Kampar Subdistrict are the making of dyke such as in Pulau Sarak and Rumbio Villages, provision of permanent shelter, and periodic physical maintenance of hydropower reservoirs in the dry season. Furthermore, non-structural efforts such as making evacuation route maps, changing land use patterns, procurement of Kotopanjang water level information boards, and the importance of enforcing regulations not to throw garbage into the river.

Abstract

This research focus on assessing the spatial distribution area of solar energy potential in Pekanbaru using ECMWF ERA5 from 2012-2022 and analysing the environmental, social, and economic aspects based on solar energy utilisation. Using overlay and intersection techniques in ArcGIS, Pekanbaru's average solar energy potential is around 5,0-5,5 kWh/m2, and around 438.227-482.050 MWh/year of photovoltaic energy can be harvested from rooftop photovoltaic installation. Moreover, by utilising rooftop photovoltaic systems, the potential of CO2 emission can be reduced at around ±411.934-453.127 tonCO2/year, and it is predicted to reduce CO2 emission from households in 2022 by up to 52%. On the other hand, a questionnaire is used to describe the level of the community's understanding related to the beneficial effects of solar energy. Based on 100 respondents, it is found that around 58% of people don’t understand or are aware of rooftop photovoltaic, 20% of households think that the system is not necessary or urgently needed, and 22% of respondents argue that the high cost of installation is the primary consideration. The results reveal that the support from local governments is required for developing PV system as this system is one of the possible solutions to reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs).

Abstract

This research was carried out in December 2021-January 2022 in Dumai City District, Riau Province. The purpose of this study is to determine the rate of sea level rise based on analysis of tide data from 2001-2021 and to predict inundation areas in the next 20 years. This research method is a descriptive survey using remote sensing as an additional tool to show the results. Acquisition needs are in the form of primary data (land use and tide data) and secondary (slope data, elevation, land use, and tide data). These parameters are processed and analysed to describe the extent of the inundation by displaying a map of the City of Dumai. The results showed that the waters of Dumai City have a Formzhal number of 0.5, which means that the water area is classified as a mixed tide, semi-diurnal prevalence, with a sea level rise of 2.003 cm/year. Then, the numbers used to predict the height of sea level rise in the next 20 years are 0.973 m each. Furthermore, sea level height was analysed to obtain the inundation area for the next 20 years, it turns out that the inundation area each year is 11.89 ha

Abstract

The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon is a phenomenon that occurs in the Indian Ocean due to differences in sea surface temperature anomalies between the Western Indian Ocean and Eastern Indian Ocean regions. This interaction produces high pressure in the Eastern Indian Ocean (South of Java and West of Sumatra) which causes the flow of air masses to blow westward. The IOD phenomenon affects oceanographic parameters such as sea surface temperature, salinity, currents, and sea level rise in Indonesian waters. The Malacca Strait is a very important waterway because it connects the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea (Pacific Ocean) so it is strongly influenced by the IOD phenomenon. This research was conducted from November 2022 - February 2023. Global data collection in this study was located in the waters of the Strait of Melaka and data collection for validation was carried out in the waters of North Rupat. This study uses data analysis using secondary data and primary data to validate the secondary data used so that it can prove that the global data in this study are accurate. The results of this study found that in the period 2013 - 2022, the range of sea surface temperature of the Malacca Strait is 27 - 32°C. The salinity of the Malacca Strait waters ranges from 32.54 - 33.49 ppt. The current speed in the Malacca Strait is classified as weak to strong with the direction of movement of the Malacca Strait ocean currents back and forth. The Malacca Strait waters have a mixed tidal type of double daily inclination with an F value of 0.6 cm. The sea level rise in the Malacca Strait ranges from 0.50 - 0.76 cm. The IOD phenomenon affects sea surface temperature, salinity, sea level rise, and current velocity depending on the IOD phase
