Abstract

Islamic finance has grown significantly, creating a demand for risk management tools that comply with religious principles prohibiting interest, excessive uncertainty, and gambling. This study aims to review the concepts, instruments, practices, and challenges of Shariah-compliant hedging to understand its alignment with Islamic principles and market needs. A systematic literature review was conducted, analyzing 25 publications from 2015 to 2025, including a comprehensive literature review to identify theoretical foundations, instrument designs, and implementation gaps. The findings reveal that instruments like unilateral promise-based forwards, commodity trade-based swaps, forward sales, manufacturing contracts, and earnest money contracts enable risk management but face challenges such as high transaction costs and regulatory disparities. This review uniquely synthesizes theoretical and practical insights, highlighting tensions between Shariah authenticity and economic efficiency. Despite progress, issues like form-over-substance criticisms and lack of standardized regulations persist, limiting market accessibility. The study concludes that Shariah-compliant hedging is viable but requires innovation in instrument design and regulatory harmonization to balance ethical compliance with financial competitiveness, offering valuable insights for practitioners and policymakers seeking to advance Islamic risk management.

Abstract

The development of financial technology has encouraged the use of e-wallets as a digital payment method, including in culinary businesses such as coffe shops. Although the adoption of e-wallets in Indonesia continues to increase, their intensity of use at the consumer level is not yet optimal and is influenced by behavioral and structural factors. This study aims to analyze the effect of financial literacy and financial inclusion on the intensity of e-wallet usage among consumers at Coffe shop Manakala Medan. This study uses a quantitative approach with a causal associative design. Data were collected through a Likert scale questionnaire distributed to 77 e-wallet users using purposive and convenience sampling techniques. Data analysis was performed using validity and reliability tests, classical assumption tests, and multiple linear regression analysis, which included t-tests, F-tests, and the coefficient of determination (R²). The results of the study indicate that financial literacy has a positive and significant effect on the intensity of e-wallet usage. Financial inclusion also has a positive and significant effect and has a more dominant influence than financial literacy. Simultaneously, both variables have a significant effect on the intensity of e-wallet usage. These findings confirm that the intensity of e-wallet usage is not only determined by the availability of technology, but also by the level of consumer understanding and ease of access to digital financial services. This study provides empirical evidence by emphasizing the importance of financial literacy and financial inclusion in promoting the sustainable use of e-wallets in the culinary business.

Abstract

Employee performance is a key factor in supporting the effectiveness of public organizations, particularly the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Batu Bara Regency, which is required to work quickly, accurately, and responsively in providing disaster services. This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational culture and work environment on employee performance, as well as to examine the role of work motivation as an intervening variable. This study used a quantitative approach with a census method on 81 employees of the BPBD of Batu Bara Regency. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Partial Least Square (PLS) method. The results showed that organizational culture and work environment had a positive and significant effect on employee performance and work motivation. In addition, work motivation also had a positive and significant effect on employee performance. The indirect effect test proves that work motivation acts as an intervening variable in the relationship between organizational culture and work environment on employee performance. These findings confirm that strengthening organizational culture, creating a conducive work environment, and continuously improving work motivation are very important for improving the performance of BPBD employees in Batu Bara Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of organizational culture and human resource development on organizational commitment with Public Service Motivation (PSM) as a mediating variable at the Medan Sunggal Sub-District Office. The study used a quantitative approach with a survey method. The research population consisted of all 90 civil servants at the Medan Sunggal Subdistrict Office, all of whom were included in the sample. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares–Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with the help of SmartPLS. The results of the study indicate that organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment, but does not have a significant effect on Public Service Motivation. Human resource development does not have a significant direct effect on organizational commitment, but has a positive and significant effect on Public Service Motivation. Furthermore, Public Service Motivation has a positive and significant effect on organizational commitment. Mediation effect testing shows that Public Service Motivation does not mediate the effect of organizational culture on organizational commitment, but acts as a significant mediating variable in the relationship between human resource development and organizational commitment. These findings indicate that increasing organizational commitment in the Medan Sunggal Subdistrict Office environment is more effectively achieved through direct strengthening of organizational culture and through human resource development that can increase employees' public service motivation. This study provides practical implications for public sector human resource management in designing human resource development policies and strengthening public service values to increase organizational commitment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between psychological well-being and the work productivity of education personnel at Universitas Pembangunan Panca Budi (UNPAB) Medan. Psychological well-being is a positive psychological condition that includes six main dimensions according to Ryff (1989), namely self-acceptance, positive relationships with others, autonomy, mastery of the environment, life goals, and personal growth. The research method used is quantitative correlational with a survey approach. The research population is all UNPAB education staff totaling 120 people, with a sample of 92 people determined using the Slovin formula. Data collection was carried out through the Scales of Psychological Well-Being (SPWB) questionnaire and work productivity scales that have been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis used Pearson Product Moment correlation and simple linear regression. The results showed that there was a positive and significant relationship between psychological well-being and the work productivity of UNPAB education personnel (r = 0.712; p < 0.01), with a determination coefficient of 50.7%. The dimension of life goals and mastery of the environment are the strongest predictors of work productivity. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of psychological welfare improvement programs for education personnel to support the performance of institutions in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

This study examines the extent to which HR service quality and perceived organizational support shape employee commitment, positioning job satisfaction as a mediating mechanism among female employees of PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) Medan Branch. A quantitative-explanatory survey design was adopted. Fifty female employees working outside the HR department were recruited via purposive sampling, in line with the PLS-SEM minimum sample guideline of ten times the maximum number of paths entering any endogen construct (Hair et al., 2021). A five-point Likert-scale questionnaire served as the data collection instrument, and analysis was conducted through PLS-SEM using SmartPLS 4.0. Key findings indicate that: (1) HR service quality exerts a positive and significant effect on both job satisfaction (β = 0.412; p < 0.05) and organizational commitment (β = 0.287; p < 0.05); (2) organizational support likewise positively influences job satisfaction (β = 0.389; p < 0.05) and organizational commitment (β = 0.341; p < 0.05); (3) job satisfaction is a significant predictor of organizational commitment (β = 0.463; p < 0.05); and (4) job satisfaction serves as a partial mediator between both independent variables and organizational commitment.
