Abstract

This research aims to analyze the English Education students’ of Universitas Pekalongan problems  in  writing  final  project  in  English.  The  causes  are  viewed  from  students’  and  the lecturers  perspective  as  the  advisor  and  also  what  are  supposed  to  do  to  help  the  student minimize the problems in writing final project. This study used descriptive qualitative method that fully describe the problems as well as solutions in writing final projects. The deep analysis has been done  from the student’s and the lecturer’s perspectives. After conducting a survey by doing some interviews and distributing questionnaires, we found that there are so many factors that affects the studnts’ difficulties in finishing their final projects.

Abstract

Abstract This  research covers  the  use  of  sociology  of  literarture  as  the  teaching  literature  approach.  The problems statement comes from the  use  of  intrinsic elements in teaching literature recently. It  uses library research method. Through sociology of literature,  learning will be more interesting because it explores  both  intrinsically  and  extrincically.  This  research  also  gives  the  application  of  teaching literature using sociology of literature approach. Using  sociology of literature, the teacher could teach students both intrinsically and extrinsically of literary works. For extrinsic elements, the teacher could connect  the  literary works to  the  social  condition of  the  author  and the  social  condition reflected in literary works. Sociology of literature offers more interactive discussion literature learning.Keywords: sociology of literature, literary teaching, extrinsic elements

Abstract

Folklore has important role as the part of society and education. Folklore as local wisdom can be used for teaching current issues of society, such as gender issues. The objective of the study aims to analyze the Pekalongan Folklore DewiLanjar as the local wisdom from feminist perspective. This study uses descriptive qualitative method and feminism theory. The findings of this study are Dewilanjar folklore has bias gender in presenting her character, action and role. It is caused by the domination of patriarchy systems. The teacher should give the understanding to the students of the gender bias so that students can understand and tolerance to gender issues.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to explain the role and strategy of the teachers in teaching and learning of folklore in industrial revolution 4.0 era. Folklore as the part of local wisdom needs to be conserved and promoted. Millennial generation is the key of the success in conserving and promoting local folklore. Indonesia has potential students as millennial generation must be taken advantage in education. This research helps the teachers and educators to teach and learn the local folklore in industrial revolution 4.0 era through millennial generation. This study tries to maximize the Student Centered Learning approach in developing the use of e-learning and social media.

Abstract

Teaching abstract concept in literature like othering to English students can be challenging for it is difficult for students to visualize and relate to their reality. Using popular movie can help them visualize the concept lively. Popular science fiction movie like X-Men is not merely imaginative and full of fantasy; it also has relevant issue on concept of othering in Education. Therefore, instead of using it as means of teaching English skill, it can also be used as mean of helping students easily to understand difficult and abstract concept especially about othering in education. Deconstruction method and theory of movie for ELT is explored to describe othering in X-Men movie and how to the use of X-Men film as the mean to teach othering in education.It is found that X-Men provided critics of othering in education represented by negative views and different treatments to mutantsin field of education. The practices of othering were in form of discourses like seeing mutants as abnormal, a threat to normal people, and diseases needed curing and they were not allowed to go to normal school. To present the othering concept in X-Men, the lesson session were divided into three parts; previewing, viewing and post viewing.Keywords: X-Men, movie for ELT, othering in education

Abstract

The characteristics of children's behavior in the millennial era are marked by a strong mastery of digital media, so how do parents determine parenting to build a generation that does not accept the bad effects of the digital era, but uses all media wisely and for positive purposes. Family education is an effort to empower families to be able to exercise control over existing resources and active participation in character formation. The condition of the Covid-19 pandemic has forced families to be more attentive to the process of their children participating in their learning activities at school. Many families in Bandengan Village have difficulty guiding their children in learning activities, especially learning assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic. The majority of the people of Bandengan Village earn as casual laborers, small fishermen and factory workers. By implementing the FKIP Mengajar and mentoring program for independent study groups in Bandengan Village, it is hoped that it can help the people of Bandengan Village in the field of education, especially the problem of learning difficulties experienced by teenagers. The method used in this service is active participation and mentoring. This strategy can be summarized as follows: 1. Grouping of Adolescents according to School Age 2. Learning Assistance (school materials, Multi Literacy, and general skills,) 3. Formation of Independent Study Group 4. Independent learning group mentoring. The synergy between universities and the community is needed in a real form. FKIP Pekalongan University provides solutions to problems in the learning assistance of parents for their children. Independent learning group mentoring is a tangible form of solving learning mentoring problems in the community.Keywords : independent learning, family education, mentoring.

Abstract

In the era of globalization, foreign and local cultures meet each other. The meeting caused some controversy regarding the existence of local culture and identity. Globalization will undoubtedly affect the position of the Javanese and their identity now. The Javanese now are hybrid Javanese who can take and accept and filter cultures outside of Javanese culture. Javanese women face more problems than Javanese men. Javanese women face patriarchal domination and the problem of Javanese women's identity in the era of globalization. The film "Tilik" is a short film that went viral during the Covid-19 pandemic. This film represents hybrid Javanese women present in the life of Javanese society today. The purpose of this study is to explain how Javanese women, like hybrid Javanese, can overcome all currents of globalization by absorbing, mixing, following, and modifying cultures outside Java without abandoning the noble values of Java. This research method uses descriptive qualitative with critical discourse analysis. The results show that Javanese women are hybrid women formed from various cultures and globalization but still adhere to Javanese cultural values in their daily lives.

Abstract

Literary psychological scholars see psychological problems faced by a fictional character in a literary work as a reflection of the author’s awareness of similar phenomena that happen to a real person in real life. It becomes a trigger to why this research is conducted. This research aims to analyze the psychological condition of Greg Heffley, the protagonist in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2007), in his early teenage year. The theory used in this research is Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development. This research method is qualitative descriptive, where data is analyzed and presented in the discussion in detailed descriptions. Meanwhile, the primary data is text in the novel. The results show that Greg Heffley, as the protagonist, experiences role confusion due to the transition from childhood to teenage. He does not adapt well with his new environment. The situation is worsened by his unsupportive best friend, who still acts like a child when interacting with him. It is also found that Greg Heffley, at this stage, begins to be aware of his sexual and occupational identity. It is concluded that Greg Heffley finds it challenging and difficult to migrate from childhood to teenage with all his situation.

Abstract

This research reports the findings of a narrative inquiry aiming at revealing the lecturers' perceptions about the meaning and importance of independent learning for improving students' mastery of English. This research involved nine lecturers of English Education program at the Faculty of Teachers’ Training and Education, Pekalongan University. The lecturers were interviewed about their views of independent learning. The findings suggest that all of the respondents agreed on the importance of independent learning. However, in terms of the meaning of independent learning, the lecturers suggest a various definition of independent learning, signaling that their understanding on the concept of independent learning is not similar which may result in different practices of giving independent learning tasks to students.

Abstract

Pembelajaran daring masa pandemi Covid-19 mengalami kendala terutama di daerah dengan infrastruktur komunikasi yang masih minim. Kesulitan akses sinyal internet menjadi halangan paling dominan. Oleh karena itu, teknologi berbasis modular luar jarring (luring) sangat diperlukan. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini betujuan untuk membantu guru menggunakan Flip PDF sebagai alternative modul digital yang lebih menarik dan dapat digunakan secara luring untuk pembelajaran pada masa pandemic. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di PKBM An Nur yang terletak di Paninggaran Kabupaten Pekalongan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam waktu 4 bulan yang mencakup tahap persiapan, pelaksanaan dan evaluasi program. Metode yang digunakan dalam Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah metode ceramah, demonstrasi, diskusi dan tanya jawab. Kegiatan ini bermanfaat bagi guru PKBM yang masih kesulitan untuk membuat e-modul yang sesuai dengan aturan pemerintah, kearifan local, menarik dan interaktif. Dengan e-modul, pembelajaran mandiri menjadi lebih menarik, kaya akan sumber belajar dan tidak terhambat dengan ketiadaan sinyal internet.
