Abstract

AbstractThe lack of media variation used constituted a background of this research.  Student concept comprehension was not yet supported, and the media often used were student conventional workbook and exercises. This research aimed at developing daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson by using Borg and Gall development model to know validity and practicality levels of the workbook.  It was Research and Development (R&D). 5 of 10 steps in Borg and Gall development model were used in this research, they were collecting data, planning, developing a product, preliminary testing.  Testing was conducted to a chemistry subject teacher and 10 of the eleventh-grade students of MIPA at Senior High School of Islam As-Shofa Pekanbaru.  The data obtained were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques.  Daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson was tested very valid with the percentages 90% by media experts and 92% by material experts, the percentage of practicality test by teacher was 91.42%, and the workbook got good student responses.  Based on these findings, it could be concluded that daily life-based student electronic workbook on Hydrocarbon Compounds lesson was valid and practical, so it was proper to be used as a learning media at school. Keywords:    Student Electronic Workbook, Daily Life, Hydrocarbon Compounds Lesson

Abstract

AbstractThis research was instigated by Chemistry subject at State Senior High School 1 Siak Hulu that was dominated by Lecturing method, and the low of student scores on Atomic Structure lesson in the Academic Year of 2016/2017.  This research aimed at knowing the effect of Joyful Learning model with Recitation method using Physical Self-Assessment learning strategy toward student learning achievement on Atomic Structure lesson.  Experimental method was used in this research with True experimental pretest posttest control group design.  Purposive sampling technique was used in this research.  The samples were the tenth-grade students of Natural Science 1 as the experimental group and the students of Natural Science 2 as the control group.  The used instruments were learning achievement test that was supported by observation sheet and documentation.  The research findings showed that tobserved score 2.74 and ttable was 2.00.  It showed that tobserved was higher than ttable, there was an effect on learning achievement, and the effect was 11.5%.  So, it could be concluded that there was an effect of Joyful Learning model with Recitation method using Physical Self-Assessment learning strategy at State Senior High School 1 Siak.Keywords:     Joyful Learning Model, Recitation Method, Physical Self-Assessment Learning Strategy, Learning Achievement, Atomic Structure

Abstract

AbstrakMeningkatnya penggunaan plastik diikuti dengan besarnya kepedulian terhadap isu lingkungan mengenai pembuangan produk plastik sintetis yang sulit terurai. Salah satu alternatif untuk mengatasinya adalah dengan memodifikasi plastik agar bersifat biodegradabel. Plastik biodegradabel (plastik ramah lingkungan) dirancang mampu terdekomposisi di alam. Tingkat di biodegradasi yang terjadi tergantung pada kondisi tanah seperti suhu, kadar air, tingkat aerasi, keasaman dan konsentrasi mikroorganisme sendiri. Berdasarkan hal diatas, maka dilakukan penelitian dengan tujuan mengetahui efektifitas penguraian plastik ramah lingkungan dengan metode pengomposan dalam tanah gambut (TG) dan tanah sampah, serta faktor pH. Dari hasil penelitian kami mendapatkan bahwa pada semua perlakuan uji pada hari ke-20 sampai hari ke-60 terjadi peningkatan persentase penurunan berat plastik ecoplas dan oxium. Sedangkan persentase perubahan berat plastik terbesar dari proses biodegradasi terhadap semua perlakuan uji adalah pada  TG3pada hari ke-60 yaitu 0,45%. Secara umum, jika pH tanah dibuat semakin asam, maka menyebabkan penguraian plastik semakin bertambah.Kata Kunci : Plastik, Mikroorganisme tanah, lahan gambut.

Abstract

AbstractPolymer is one of Chemistry materials that wasvery closely related in the daily life, but a learning resource on that material at Senior High School is limited.  Thus, a learning resource contextual based such video is needed to be developed.This research aimed at developing a valid and practical learning resource such video based onpreparing edible film of durian seed starch with the addition of basil leave extract and knowing chemistry and physic characteristics of edible film.This research was a Research and Development (R&D) with 4D (four-D) model, modified by doing limited trialsand removing disseminating step.  In the Design step, laboratory research plan of preparing edible film of durian seed starch with the addition of basil leave extract.  Based on the validity test, developing video was stated on valid category with 74.33% percentage of validity level.  Based on the practicality test, developing video was stated on very practicalcategory with 82% percentage of practicality level.  The best edible film was on 2 graddition of basil leave extract, physic characteristic ofwater vapor transmission rate was 3.401361 g/m2.24 hours, chemistry characteristic of water content was 14% on edible film withoutthe addition of basil leave extract, and the strongest antioxidant activity was 3.4366 µg/mL onediblefilm with 2 graddition of basil leave extract.Keywords: Learning Resource, Edible Film, Polymer

Abstract

Free radicals can weaken the function of cell membranes and endoplasmic reticulum and destroy cells at the DNA molecular level. The human body needs antioxidants to stabilize the number of free radicals in the body. Natural antioxidants found in plants include vitamins, phenols, flavonoids, and carotenoids. Sappan wood is a herbal plant that has antioxidant properties. The antioxidant compounds contained in sappan wood are phenolic compounds, resorcinins, brazilein, gallic acid, flavonoids, saponins, terpenoids, and tannins. The method used is a literature study which is reviewed one by one, after which the journals obtained are collected and the information is compiled by summarizing the contents of the journals used as sources. From the processed data, sappan wood has an antioxidant activity which can be seen from the In Vitro test with the IC50 value and the In Vivo test on rats. Sappan wood is used as a cosmetic ingredient in the form of essence and hair tonic. Apart from that, it is also used as an ingredient in the manufacture of drinks and food because sappan wood has high antioxidants.

Abstract

AbstractLess innovative learning media, especially on Chemistry learning, made students uninterested in the learning.  This research aimed at producing Nearpod based interactive learning media on Periodic System of the Elements lesson that was valid and practical based on the result of validity test by material and media experts, and practical test by chemistry teacher and students.  Research and Development (R&D) method was used in this research with 4D (Define, Design, Development, and Disseminate) development model.  This research was administered at State Islamic Senior High School 1 Pekanbaru.  The subjects of this research were material and media experts, teachers, and students.  The object was Nearpod based interactive learning media on Periodic System of the Elements lesson.  The validation result by media and material experts showed that the score was 95% with very valid criterion.  The result of teacher practicality test was 95.45% with very practical criterion, and the result of student practicality test was 93.27% with very practical criterion.  So that, Nearpod based interactive learning media on Periodic System of the Elements lesson could be used to support the learning.Keywords : Interactive Learning Media, Nearpod, Periodic System of the Elements

Abstract

Basically, students had critical thinking skills in learning such as questioning, hypothesizing, clarifying, observing, and interpreting.  In fact, these skills sometime were not developed well, so it was needed a method that was able to develop student critical thinking skills.  This research aimed at analyzing student critical thinking ability through virtual practical work method.  It was conducted in the eleventh grade of Natural Science one at Islamic Senior High School of Yaspika Karimun.  Descriptive method was used in this research with one shot case study design.  The samples were one of two classes, and Purposive sampling technique was used in this research.  Instruments of this research were essay test and observation sheet.  The data analysis results showed that the mean percentage of critical thinking ability of the eleventh-grade students of Natural Science 1 at Islamic Senior High School of Yaspika Karimun on Buffer Solution lesson was 74.34% with good category for test instrument, and the mean percentage of observation sheet instrument was 76.67% with good category.  Based on these findings, it could be concluded that student critical thinking skills with Virtual Practical Work method on Buffer Solution lesson was on good category.Keywords : Critical Thinking Ability, Virtual Practical Work Method, Buffer Solution

Abstract

AbstractThis research is constituted by the available practicum guides that have not been able to develop the ability of students to be active and independent during the learning process in the laboratory. This research aimed at knowing the validity and practicality levels of the Learning Cycle 5E-based practicum guide on Chemical Equilibriumlesson.  The research design used was a 4D model which was limited to 3 stages, namely Define, Design, and Develop.  This research was administered at State Senior High School 4 Pekanbaru.  The subjects of this research were practicum guide media design experts, learning material experts, chemistry subject teachers and teachers at State Senior High School 4 Pekanbaru.  The object was Learning Cycle 5E based practicum guide on Chemical Equilibriumlesson.  The data were obtained from a questionnaire based on paper.  Validity and practicality test questionnaires were the instruments for collecting data.  The data obtained were analyzed by using qualitative and quantitative descriptive analysis techniques.  Based on the practicum guide developed was tested valid with a percentage of 94% (very valid), and it was tested practical with a percentage of 89% (very practical) on the data, it could be concluded that Learning Cycle 5E based practicum guide on Chemical Equilibrium lesson was valid and practical, So that it could be a teacher teaching material at school. Keywords : Chemical Equilibrium, Learning Cycle 5E, Practicum Guide

Abstract

Optimization of Biodegradability and Toxicity Testing of Degradation Product from Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate (LAS) Surfactant as Cleaning Detergent Agent. Linear Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate (LAS) is a surfactant used in laundry detergent as cleaning agent and toxic to aquatic organisms. Results shows, with the LAS concentration used (20 ppm) in medium, adaptation time and Acinetobacter sp. growth has shown better biodegradation ability than three other bacteria used Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas fluorescence, Bacillaria spp. Thus, Acinetobacter sp is used further for biodegradation process of LAS. Based on its biodegradation half-life using Acinetobacter sp, and with mixed culture (± 52.32% and ± 46.82% respectively) could be achieved in 4 (four) days, LAS could be categorized as a biodegradable compound. The toxicity assay is based on tetrazolium dye reduction with Rhizobium meliloti as indicator organism. LAS is more toxic than its intermediate product from biodegradation, with IC50 = 34.35 ppm, and the intermediate product, Ac and Cm, has IC50 = 446.19 ppm and 111.28 ppm respectively. Identification of intermediate products using IR and LC-MS analysis shows that the degradation product contains chemicals compounds with functional group as follows: benzene, benzoic acid, hydroxyl, and aliphatic carbons with large molecule weight. Until its half-time degradation time, LAS biodegradation process only occurs at the aliphatic carbon chain, and have not yet reached the stage of aromatic ring opening.
