Abstract

Adsorbent is a solid substance that can absorb certain components from a fluid phase. Adsorbents consist of materials that are porous and directly hit the pore walls at a pertical location. The purpose of this final project is to see whether the purification of used cooking oil with the adsorbent method using a mixture of corn husk and shrimp shell chitosan adsorbents in several comparisons has an effect in purifying used cooking oil. This research was conducted by adsorption method of used cooking oil samples using corn husk bioadsorbent and shrimp shell chitosan. The use of this used cooking oil adsorbent process is so that used cooking oil that is no longer suitable for use in the community can be reused. Then proceed with the adsorption process starting with 100 ml of oil added 5 g of adsorbent with variations in the mass ratio of chitosan and corn husk = ((25: 75), (50: 50), and (75:25)%) stirring constantly for 90 minutes with temperature 70-80 C. The best results based on SNI cooking oil are in a ratio of 3,5 g: 1,5 g to 5 grams of adsorbent used or at a ratio of 75% corn husk adsorbent: 25% shrimp shell chitosan, with an acid number of 0,62 mg KOH /g, the free fatty acid compound is 0,80% and the peroxide number is 6,36 meq 02/kg.

Abstract

Used cooking oil is a waste oil derived from plants used as cooking oil. Used cooking oil can be reused by a purification process and used in soap making by a saponification process using a base (KOH or NaOH). Based on this, waste cooking oil is handled as a raw material for making solid soap. This study aimed to characterize solid soap from used cooking oil with betel leaf extract and explain the anti-bacterial ability of solid soap from used cooking oil with betel leaf extract. Solid soap is made by purifying used cooking oil by immersion in 15% NaOH and adding bleaching earth, making betel leaf extract by maceration method. The process of making solid soap with the addition of stearic acid, propylene glycol, glycerin, ethanol, and TEA. Characterization of solid soap by testing water content, amount of fatty acid, free alkaline, free fatty acid, mineral oil, foam stability, acidity test (pH), and anti-bacterial test. Testing the water content and the number of fatty acids shows that all samples did not meet the standards required by SNI 06-3532-1994. All samples in the free alkaline test (except sample F0), free fatty acids, mineral oil, and foam stability were tested to meet the standards required by SNI 06-3532-1994, and the anti-bacterial test of sample F4 has the best anti-bacterial properties because it can reduce the growth of bacteria compared to other samples.

Abstract

The waste problem in Tamanan village is an issue that needs serious attention because of its impact on environmental pollution and public health. One of the main challenges is the low awareness of residents, especially elementary school children, in terms of good and correct waste management. A lot of waste is thrown carelessly without sorting, which results in a decrease in the quality of cleanliness and health of the village environment. This community service program aims to improve students' understanding and skills in waste management through a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach for 40 days. This program involves students of MI Nurur Rahman and SDN Tamanan 1 as the main subjects. The activities carried out include socialization about the importance of waste management, the delivery of material on types of waste, as well as the practice of sorting organic, inorganic, and B3 waste. In addition, the installation of educational media in the school environment and evaluation monitoring were also carried out. The results of the evaluation showed that 73% of students were able to answer the quiz questions correctly ≥70%, which indicates their good understanding of waste management. Some students also began to implement the habit of separating waste at home and inviting families to participate. Support from village officials and the existence of educational media are expected to strengthen the sustainability of this program. Participatory approaches have proven to be effective in raising environmental awareness and can be implemented sustainably through collaboration between schools, communities, and village governments.
