Abstract

Mango (Mangifera indica L.) can be developed through plant propagation by the method of shoot-tip grafting. The problem that often take place is the distance between the mother tree and the location of the connection that is far apart, so it takes a long time and is tough to finish within one day. This research aims to obtain a combination of shelf life and types of scion wrapping materials on the growth of mango seedlings. The research conducted in April - August 2023 at UPT Horticultural Seed Development using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 2 factors 3 replications. The first factor is storage time (L) (0 days, 2 days, 4 days, and 6 days) and the second factor is the type of wrapping materials (M) (without packaging, banana frond wrapping, newspaper wrapping, and coconut husk wrapping). Parameters include the time at which shoots appear, the percentage of viable grafting, the length of the shoots and the total number of leaves. The results showed that in general the percentage of success was 70%. The treatment of storage time and type of entres wrapper did not affect the percentage of live grafting, but at a storage time of 2 days, the fastest results were obtained at the time of bud emergence and the longest results in bud length. Keywords: Entry, Length of Storage, Type of Wrapping, Mango Shoot Grafting

Abstract

The study aimed to obtain the best combination of growing media composition and the concentration of foliar fertilizer (Gandasil B) on the yield quality of eggplant. The research was conducted from December 2022 to February 2023 in Nganjuk Regency, using a completely randomized design of two factors. The first factor was composition of the growing media, which comprised of soil:husk charcoal:cow manure with ratios of (1:1:1), (1:1:2), (1:2:1), and (2:1:1), and the second factor was the concentration of foliar fertilizer (0, 2, 4, 6 g/L). The results exhibited that the combination of (1:2:1) medium growing composition and the 2 g/L concentration of foliar fertilizer produced the best fruit diameter with an increase of 22.35% compared to the combination of growing media (1:1:1) and concentration of foliar fertilizer of 2 g/L. The composition of the soil growing medium 1:2:1 gave the best results on fruit length and diameter, average fruit weight, and total fruit weight per plant. A quadratic regression analysis of the concentration of foliar fertilizer and the number of purple eggplant fruits showed that the highest concentration of foliar fertilizer was 5.78 g/L. Keywords: foliar fertilizer, fruit diameter, growing medium, purple eggplant

Abstract

Gelatik eggplant (Solanum melongena var. Gelatik), commonly referred to as Lalap eggplant, is a variety that can be processed into a vegetable. However, its production has declined due to the inaccurate selection of planting media compositions and the inadequate application of fertilizers. Therefore, optimizing the planting media composition and applying an appropriate dosage of rabbit urine LOF are expected to improve the growth and yield of Gelatik eggplant. The purpose of this study was (1) to examine the interaction between planting media composition and rabbit urine LOF dosage, (2) to assess the effect of planting media composition, and (3) to evaluate the effect of rabbit urine LOF dosage. The experiment was conducted in Tuban, East Java, using a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors. The first factor was planting media composition, consisting of four levels: (a) soil (control), (b) soil: rice husk charcoal: manure (2:1:1), (c) soil: rice husk charcoal: manure (1:2:1), and (d) soil: rice husk charcoal: manure (1:1:2). The second factor was rabbit urine LOF dosage, also with four levels: (a) NPK (control), (b) 300 ml/plant, (c) 400 ml/plant, and (d) 500 ml/plant. The results showed that the combination of soil, rice husk charcoal, and manure (1:1:2) and 300 ml/plant of rabbit urine LOF produced a significant interaction effect on the number of fruits per plant per harvest period. Furthermore, the composition of the planting media alone (soil: rice husk charcoal: manure, 1:1:2) significantly affected plant height, leaf number, fruit weight per fruit, fruit weight per plant, and total fruit weight per plant. Similarly, rabbit urine LOF dosage alone (300 ml/plant) significantly influenced plant height, number of leaves, fruit weight per fruit, fruit weight per plant, and total fruit weight per plant.

Abstract

Background : Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea L.) is a highly valued horticultural vegetable comodity. Previous research on the application of Jimmy Hantu LOF on cauliflower has focused on the polybag planting system with a single type of media, whereas this study focuses on the variation in planting medium composition (soil, goat dung, and burnt husks) in conjunction with LOF concentration. This method is expected to provide more thorough information regarding the interaction between growing media and liquid organic fertilizer as a strategy to boost cauliflower productivity in limited land settings. Methodology: The research was carried out at Sidoarjo, East Java. Polybags with various liquid organic fertilizer compositions and dosages were used in this research. The study used a completely randomized factorial design with two treatment factors: the kind of planting media (three treatment levels) and the concentration of liquid fertilizer (four treatment levels). Findings: There was a significant interaction between the soil composition treatment goat manure: burnt husks (1:1:1) (M2) and the content of liquid organic fertilizer 14 ml/L (P3) when compared to the control treatment. The treatment resulted in a 34.42 % difference in the height of cauliflower plants and a 44.93 % difference in the number of leaves. The results show that combination of planting medium soil: goat manure: burnt husk (1:1:1) (M2) with the application of 14 ml/L of Jimmy Hantu liquid organic fertilizer is the most successful treatment. Contribution: These findings provide scientific evidence on the synergistic effect of planting media composition and liquid organic fertilizer concentration, offering a valuable reference for optimizing sustainable B. oleracea cultivation in limited land conditions
