Abstract

This research-based on the students’ problem regarding English teaching especially speaking. It was caused by the teaching media applied in the classroom, where the students not interested to study. This problem was also caused by several factors such as the students in the classroom were bored and not motivated in teaching taught by using media. Consequently, the students’ speaking ability was low. Therefore, the objectives of the research are To find out whether or not the use of YouTube-based video via Zoom able to make students interesting to start speaking at eighth-grade students of UPTD SMP Negeri 7 Parepare. And how it can give progress to students speaking ability. The researcher applied a pre-experimental design (quantitative descriptive one tail), with two groups of pretest and posttest design. The researcher carries out the material by using YouTube-based video Via Zoom. The population of this research was the eighth-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 7 Parepare academic year 2020/2021. The sample of the research was taken by using cluster random sampling which consisted of 22 students from one class taken from the population of the eighth-grade student of UPTD SMP Negeri 7 Parepare, VIII.1. The result of the data analysis showed that the students speaking ability were improved, showed by the mean score of the pretest was (53,77). Besides that the mean score of the posttest was (72,54). It showed that the speaking ability of the eighth-grade students at UPTD SMP Negeri 7 Parepare was got progress by implementing YouTube-based video.

Abstract

This study aims to show the students achievement after treated by using smartphone. Based on researcher result observation data through reading comprehension test, the students achievement was place in low classification before giving treatment. It caused of teachers that made students lack of attractive and interest in English learning process. So, the researcher tried to improve students reading comprehension achievement by using smartphone at the eighth grade students of UPTD SMPN 2 Balusu English lesson in online class. The researcher applied pre-experimental with one group pretest and posttest design. The researcher applied these in the eighth grade students with population was 53 students academic year 2020/2021. While, the researcher using purposive sampling technique to determined the sample then, researcher got class VIII/B as a sample which was consisted of 20 students. The result of data analysis presented that the students achievement was improved by used smartphone in learning english process. It was shown of the different between students mean scores in pretest(55,5) and posttest(79,25) while the different scores was 23,75. So, the directed hypothesis was accepted that the students English achievement got much better after they studying English by using smartphone. So, the researcher concluded, smartphone was one of best can improved the students achievement in English learning process at the eighth grade students of UPTD SMPN 2 Balusu.

Abstract

This research was based on students' problems regarding English learning, especially the students' reading comprehension, where the students’ mean score was 53. The score was categorized low based on the assessment of the Dirjen Pendidikan Dasar dan Menengah 2016. Besides, this research was using memes to help the students’ reading comprehension. Memes are a combination of writing and images and expressions of people who function as entertainment and are spread by the internet. The purpose of this research is to find out whether or not the use of memes can enhance reading comprehension of the second year students at SMP Negeri 7 Parepare. Researchers applied pre-experimental design, with one groups of pre-test and post-test. The sample of the research consisted of 24 students from one class taken from the population of the second year student at SMP Negeri 7 Parepare l. this research consisted of three stages, namely the preparation stage, the implementation stage and the data analysis stage. The instrument was used in this research were the reading comprehension tests which aims to find out the extent of the students ability. The result of the data analysis showed that students' reading comprehension enhanced after giving treatment. It was showed by the mean score of the pre-test was 75.42 and the post-test was 84.04 the data shows that the reading comprehension of the second year students at SMP Negeri 7 Parepare enhanced by using memes. After analyzing the data by manually, the result of the t-test value (5.38) was higher than the t-table value (α = 0.05, out of 24 students = 2,069). The data indicated that H0 was rejected, H1 was accepted. In conclusion, teaching reading comprehension used meme was effective to enhance the reading comprehension of the second year students at SMP Negeri 7 Parepare of academic year 2018/2019.

Abstract

Reading skill is one of skill in language teaching and learning, besides grammar and vocabulary. Reading is the important thing for students in the process of acquiring, learning, mastering and using the language they learn. Without having Reading ability or without read, student and teacher cannot understand, pay attention, listen, and of course read. Based on the observation in SMP Negeri 10 Parepare, the students cannot be read the English passage well because the students are lack of attention, analyze and understanding the reading passage Then, the researcher hopes this proplem will be solved through fix up Strategy. Therefore, the objective of this research is to find out and analyze the use of fix up Strategy able to improve the students Reading Comprehension of eight grade student of SMP Negeri 10 Parepare. This research used quasi experimental method by using two classes with pre-test and post-test design. The population of this research was the eight year students of SMP Negeri 10 Parepare. In sampling process was taken cluster random sampling and this sample of this research VIII.1 as experimental class with 31 students and VIII.4 as control class with 31 students. The students were give treatment with Narrative texts. The data were collected by using Reading comprehension test. The result of data analysis shows that the students’ reading comprehension improved significantly. It was showed by the mean score of pre-test and post-test was 52.45 and the post-test was 80.41 It showed that through fix up Strategy as a mcan improve the reading comprehension of tenth year students of SMP Negeri 10 Parepare. Furthermore, after analyzing the data by using the test formula, the result of t-test value in post-test was 2.948 and t-table value was (2.000) It means that the t-test value (2.948) was higher than t-table value (2.000) Those indicate that H1 was accepted and H0 was rejected and the students who were taught through fix up Strategy were better than the students who were taught through Think, pair and share. From the results above can be concluded that fix up Strategy as method can improve the Reading Comprehension of the Eight year students at SMP Negeri 10 Parepare.

Abstract

The major problems of this research were how to enhance the students’ speaking ability. Then how to motivate the students to speak in English so this research conducted to find out whether implementing Multiple Intelligence effective to improve the students’ speaking of SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. A quasi-experimental method was carried out by researcher in this research. The population was the eight grade students of SMP Negeri 3 Duampanua. VIII.1 and VIII.2 were taken as sample which consists of 25 students for each class VIII.1 was chosen as the experimntal class, while VIII.2 was chosen as the control class. The instruments that used in collecting the data were interview test and questionnaire. The procedure in collecting data were divided into 3 stages namely pre-test, treatment, and post-test. The data obtained through the test were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The result of the research shows the students’ speaking ability of the experimental was better than the control group. It was proved by the data of the students’ mean score on experimental class was higher tha the control group (69.16 ˃ 60.52). Futhermore, implementing multiple intelligence improve the student speaking ability. Besides, the research finding also shows the students interest toward the implementing of this simulation. It was proved by the data from questionnaire that the students’ interest was which categorized as strongly agree.

Abstract

Gamification is gaining increasing attention in English Language Teaching (ELT) as a strategy to increase learner engagement and motivation through game elements such as points, badges, leaderboards, and digital platforms such as Kahoot, Duolingo, and Quizizz. This Systematic Literature Review (SLR) analyzes 30 empirical studies published between 2021 and 2025 using the PRISMA framework to investigate the effects of gamification on learner motivation and engagement. The review finds that gamification generally has a positive impact on learner participation and enjoyment, increasing intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. However, challenges remain regarding the long-term sustainability of these motivational benefits and the risks of over-reliance on extrinsic rewards. The analysis also reveals that while digital tools dominate gamification in ELT, the use of mixed or adaptive strategies is limited. Furthermore, little research addresses the long-term effects of gamification on language proficiency and skill retention. These findings highlight the need for future research to explore adaptive gamification models, the integration of non-digital elements, and their alignment with pedagogical principles. This review offers valuable insights for educators and curriculum developers who wish to implement effective and sustainable gamification strategies in ELT.

Abstract

The study addresses the persistent issue of low student motivation and engagement in English learning, which often leads to suboptimal academic outcomes. To tackle this problem, the research explores the integration of Team Game Tournament (TGT) and QuizWhizzer, combining gamification and collaborative learning strategies. The objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of this method in improving English learning outcomes among junior high school students. A quantitative approach was employed, involving 29 ninth-grade students from UPTD SMPN Satap 9 Barru during the 2024–2025 academic year. Participants were divided into experimental and control groups. The experimental group utilized TGT and QuizWhizzer, while the control group used Quizizz. Pre-test and post-test data were collected, and a t-test analysis was conducted to measure the impact of the intervention. Results demonstrated a significant improvement in the experimental group’s post-test scores, indicating the method’s effectiveness in enhancing student motivation, engagement, and academic performance. The findings suggest that integrating gamification and collaborative strategies can provide an innovative and effective solution to improve learning outcomes in English education.
