Abstract

The objective of this research was to predict body weight of Peranakan Ongole (PO) cattle using simple linear body measurement. The height wither (HW), body length (BL), heart girth (HG) and chest widht (CW) were measured in centimeters, using caliper, whereas weaning (WW) and yearling weight (YW) was determined in kilograms using a weighing scale. Results of the correlation coefficient showed that hearth girth (HG) highly correlated with body weight was 0.99. In all, the body lenght (HW) had the least correlation coefficient was 0.30 on body weight. Results of the stepwise regression showed that HG was a good estimator of body weight PO cattle. The comparison of residuals indicated that only two equations  accurately predicted body weight. From these results, it was concluded that body weight of Female PO cattle can be estimated using simple linear body measurement of heart girth especially in most remote areas where farmers are challenged with the unavailability of weighing scale

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate effect of genetic and non genetic factor on the gestation length (GL) and calf survival to weaning (CS) of Bali cattle. Data were analyzed using Generalized Linier Model (SAS) to observe non-genetic effect. To evaluate the genetic effect, the estimations of heritability were done using Mixed Models analysis with the dam and sire as random effect and parity, year of birth and type of mating as fixed effect in the model besides the residual. The results showed non genetic factors except type of mating influenced the variability of gestation length (GL) and calf survival to weaning (CS) in Bali cattle. The result showed that dam year of birth and parity were found significant source of variation in the gestation length, whereas calf survival to weaning were affected of age of dam and year of birth.  Estimated heritability of  GL and CS were 0.68 ± 0.07  and 0.28 ± 0.09, respectively. With regards to genetic effect, estimated heritability of GL was considered higher (0.68), which means that GL information would be more effective as a selection criteria. Selection for shorter GL might be reduce calving problems with less impact on calf survival to weaning.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters on reproduction traits such as litter size, preweaning mortality and the number of piglet weaned. The data used were obtained from Artificial Insemination (AI) unit  Baturiti. Estimation of breeding values were calculated with heritability and differensial selection. Genetic and phenotypic trends analysis were performed with the regression mean breeding values on birth year and mean phenotypic on birth year. According to the breeding value estimated for all traits, the best was the sire no. 32, whose breeding value for litter size, mortality and number weaned were +0.27, +0.01, and +0.35.  The highest genetic and phenotypic  correlation were obtained between litter size and number of piglet weaned were 0.91 and 0.92 respectively. Genetic trends of litter size and number piglet weaned showed a similar pattern in 2010 to 2015 were fluctuative then declined in 2016, whereas the preweaning mortality tend to be stable. The phenotypic trends of litter size and the number of piglet weaned from 2010 through 2016 have the same pattern, which has a fluctuative pattern and lead to decrease in 2016. The phenotypic trend of pre-weaning mortality showed a stable pattern. The results of this research indicated that the reproduction traits of pig in Bali Province could be improve through selection programme.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to predict swamp buffalo weight using simple linier body measurement. The height of wither (TB), height of hip (TP), heart girth (LiD), width of chest (LD), dept of chest (DD), width of hip (LP), thurl length (PK), width of rump (LK), body length (PB) were measured in centimeters using measuring rib, one meter ruler, and measuring stick, whereas body weight was determined in kilograms using two tons weighing scale. Linier body measurement ratio between male and female swamp buffaloes was analyzed using t-test analysis. The relationship between linier measurement variables were analyzed using correlation analyisis. Body weight estimator was estimated using best subset regression, linier regression and multiple linier regression analysis. Result of T-test analysis showed that linier body measurement between male and female buffaloes have significant difference in hearth girth, height of hip and body length.  Result of coefficient analysis showed that heart girth and height of hip have a highly correlation with body weight of male and female swamp buffalo. Estimation of swamp buffalo body weight could be estimated through multiple regression with heart girth and height of hip variables. It could be concluded that weight of swamp buffalo can be estimated using multiple linier regression formula, BB = 3.6435LiD + 0.1208TP - 265.43 for male swamp buffalo and BB = 4.1783LiD – 0.3086TP - 305,19 for female swamp buffalo.

Abstract

Mastitis is an inflammation of  internal udder tissue caused by bacteria, it decrease milk production both in quality and quantity. This study was aimed to identify expression and pathway analysis of gene CD14 and IL10 as resistance genes in dairy infected with subclinical mastitis. Sample were taken from milk and blood 10 healthy dairy and 10 dairy containing subclinical mastitis used for CMT and RNA isolation used for gene expression analysis. The result showed that expression in healthy dairy CD14 gene had a higher expression (P<0.05). In contrast the IL10 gene had a high expression in infected dairy with subclinical mastitis (P<0.05). CD14 was an early signal receptor that activates a complex nonspecific immune response to induce various immune characteristics such as the production of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, the production of antimicrobial peptides and so on destroy pathogens. The high expression of IL10 in infected dairy with subclinical mastitis suggested that immune responses were not functioning properly considered due to inhibiton of cytokine transduction signals by excessive production of IL10.

Abstract

Myostatin (MSTN), a member of the transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) superfamily, is a negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth. Improving muscle growth is very important to increase the economic value of Indonesian indigenous chicken especially in sentul chicken. This study was aimed to identify the polymorphism of the Myostatin gene in sentul indonesian indigenous chicken with maternal immunization against Myostatin  on post hatch and to evaluate its effect on carcass traits. In this study, 48 Sentul hens for up to 6 months have been divided into three groups with 16 birds in each group: CON, KLH, and KLH-MSTN. The CON group has not received immunization, the KLH group has been immunized with 1 mg of KLH, and KLH-MSTN has been immunized with 1 mg of KLH-MSTN conjugate intramuscularly. The effects of each group have been observed on F1 carcass production. The gene polymorphism was identified using PCR-RFLP and the effect of genotype on carcass chacteristics were analyzed using SAS General Linear Model Procedure. The product of amplification was 247 bp. This  locus was polymorphic in sentul chicken with two alleles (G and T) and three genotypes (GG, GT, TT). Association analysis were not significant in carcass characteristics. The result of this study showed that interaction of each group with genotype not significant on carcass weight of F1 chicken sentul each age group. F1 sentul chicken 12 week-old significant association of genotype was observed only in thighs weight while 20 week-old was significant in live weight, carcass weight, breast weight, wings weight, thighs weight, drum sticks weight, breast muscle weight, thighs muscle weight and drum sticks muscle weight. These results suggest that no effect genotype on maternal immunization against myostatin to stimulate carcass characteristic in sentul chickens.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to identify the polymorphism of the CD1B gene in c.248 in exon 3 and its association with IgY and ND titers in sentul chicken Sensi-1 Agrinak line. IgY is the main antibody of chickens while the ND titer is an ND specific antibody, both of which have an important role in the response of disease resistance. The Cluster of differentiation 1B (CD1B) gene is one of the major genes of disease resistance that functions in representing antigens through specific immune responses. This study used 17 sensi-1 chicken lines. The study was conducted by PCR sequencing method, ELISA test, and HI test. The result showed mutation on c248 A>G in exon 3. The SNP were polymorphic and Hardy Weinberg equilibrium. Thre were two A and G alleles and 3 genotypes namely AG, GG, and AA. The frequency of the GG genotype was higher (0.41) compared to other genotypes. The AG genotype were associated with IgY production and were not associated with ND titers.
