Abstract

Background: Anemia is a condition in which the number of red blood cells or the concentration of oxygen-carrying material (Hb) in the blood is insufficient to meet the body's physiological needs. Anemia in pregnant women occurs due to a lack of red blood cells, generally due to iron deficiency, which causes the mother to feel very tired, pale, dizzy, have a palpitation, and experience shortness of breath due to a reduced oxygen supply to the body and fetus. The WHO estimates that 40% of children aged 6–59 months, 37% of pregnant women, and 30% of women aged 15–49 years worldwide suffer from anemia. The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women in Indonesia remains high, with the latest data showing a figure of 27.7%. The level of knowledge of pregnant women about anemia also influences their attitudes and compliance with nutritional needs. Knowledge is one of the factors that stimulates or encourages the implementation of healthy behaviors. Purpose: To increase knowledge about anemia and its prevention among pregnant women. Method: Community service was held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Obstetrics Clinic of Welas Asih Regional Hospital. This activity involved 28 pregnant women and their families as participants and was also attended by activity partners, namely stakeholders at the Obstetrics Clinic of Welas Asih Regional Hospital. Counseling was carried out offline (face-to-face) by delivering materials related to knowledge about anemia in pregnant women, the benefits of pregnancy exercises, the importance of nutritious food (iron), maintaining health with a balanced nutritional pattern, and knowledge about prevention and the impacts of anemia in pregnant women. The results of the activity were presented descriptively as an evaluation of the counseling activity based on observations during the activity. Results: Participants gained increased knowledge, understanding that anemia is caused by nutritional deficiencies. Participants understood that nutritious foods high in iron can prevent the risk of anemia. Participants also understood the importance of maintaining health by adopting a healthy lifestyle, doing prenatal exercises, and consistently consuming a balanced diet. Conclusion: Counseling activities for pregnant women were effective in increasing knowledge and understanding of anemia, as well as changing attitudes toward greater adherence to iron consumption as an effort to prevent anemia. Suggestion: It is recommended that families accompanying pregnant women be educated about anemia as a form of family support in preventing anemia in the community. Healthcare workers are also expected to motivate pregnant women to address anemia by ensuring balanced nutrition. Abstract

Background: Fever is the most common complaint in children and the primary reason for visits to healthcare facilities. However, parents' lack of knowledge often leads to fever phobia, irrational medication use, and delayed recognition of danger signs. This situation emphasizes the need for systematic health education to improve family literacy. Hospitals, through pediatric clinics, play a strategic role in optimizing family knowledge, with nurses acting as educators and counselors providing evidence-based information and support. Purpose: To increase knowledge as an effort to optimize parental understanding in managing fever in children. Method: The activity was conducted in October 2025 at the Pediatric Clinic of Cibabat Regional Hospital, Cimahi, involving 25 parents selected based on their willingness and attendance. The study design used a pre-experimental, one-group pre-test and post-test, using a questionnaire on fever knowledge. Education was provided through lectures, discussions, videos, and leaflets, followed by evaluation through a post-test and Q&A. Data were analyzed descriptively by comparing pre-test and post-test results to determine improvements in family knowledge and understanding regarding fever management in children. Results: Prior to the educational activity, the knowledge and understanding of most participants were in the poor category (20 participants (82.5%) and in the adequate category (5 participants (17.5%). After the health education program, all participants improved to the good category (25 participants (100%). The comparison of the pre-test and post-test results showed a significant increase in family knowledge regarding fever management in children. Conclusion: Optimizing family knowledge about fever management in children is a crucial step in improving the quality of care and preventing complications. Appropriate and continuous education has been shown to strengthen parents' ability to manage fever independently and safely. Nurses play a strategic role as educators and counselors in providing information and support to families. Suggestion: Strengthening health education programs by nurses in healthcare facilities and the community is necessary to support fever management in children. Furthermore, the development of innovative and easily accessible educational media is expected to strengthen understanding and increase family involvement in safe and appropriate child care practices, with nurses acting as educators and counselors. Abstract

Background: In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that approximately 12.230.142 pregnant women worldwide experienced problems during the third trimester of pregnancy, with 30% experiencing anxiety during childbirth. The incidence of anxiety among pregnant women in Indonesia reached 28.7%, particularly among third-trimester pregnant women who were about to give birth. Pregnant women experiencing anxiety require efforts to reduce it. Pregnant women with anxiety increase the incidence of preeclampsia by up to 7.84 times, so if not addressed promptly, it will impact the well-being of both the mother and the baby. Purpose: The objective of this study is to determine the effect of lavender aromatherapy on anxiety levels in third-trimester pregnant women facing childbirth. Method: This is a quantitative study using a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest. Respondents completed a questionnaire about anxiety before and after the lavender aromatherapy intervention. There was no control group in this study. Results: Among the 11 respondents before receiving lavender aromatherapy, 2 experienced severe anxiety, 6 experienced moderate anxiety, 1 experienced mild anxiety, and 2 were not anxious. After the first lavender aromatherapy intervention, the results showed 1 person with severe anxiety, 5 with moderate anxiety, 3 with mild anxiety, and 2 without anxiety. Subsequently, the respondents received the second lavender aromatherapy intervention, resulting in 1 person with moderate anxiety, 2 with mild anxiety, and 8 without anxiety. After the third application of lavender aromatherapy, the results showed that 2 individuals experienced moderate anxiety and 9 individuals did not experience anxiety. Conclusion: Using the Wilcoxon test after three interventions with lavender aromatherapy on 11 pregnant women, the results showed a p-value of 0.003 < 0.05, indicating that lavender aromatherapy has an effect on the anxiety levels of pregnant women facing childbirth.

Abstract

Anemia is a reduction in hemoglobin concentration below an age-, sex-, and physiological-status-specific threshold and may result from nutritional deficiencies, blood loss, inflammation, inherited disorders, or other causes. Menstruating adolescent girls are a priority population for prevention and educational interventions. This study aimed to assess immediate pre-post changes in knowledge and attitudes toward anemia following an e-booklet educational intervention informed by Pender's Health Promotion Model (HPM). A quantitative one-group pretest-posttest study was conducted among 77 adolescent girls at SMK Pasundan 3 Cimahi. Participants were selected from a population of 327 students using proportionate stratified random sampling. Recruitment and consent/assent were followed by a pretest assessment, standardized e-booklet education, and an immediate posttest. Knowledge was categorized as good, fair, or poor, while attitudes were categorized as positive or negative. Data were analyzed using the Marginal Homogeneity and McNemar tests. The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 16.9% to 79.2% (absolute change: +62.3 percentage points), while poor knowledge decreased from 58.4% to 2.6% (p < 0.001). Positive attitudes increased from 54.5% to 76.6% (absolute change: +22.1 percentage points; p = 0.005). Knowledge and attitude categories were more favorable immediately after the e-booklet intervention. Because the study lacked a comparison group and assessed outcomes only immediately after the intervention, controlled studies with validated continuous measures and longer follow-up are needed to establish the effectiveness and sustainability of the observed changes.

Abstract

Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC) supports thermoregulation, breastfeeding, and physiological adaptation in low birth weight (LBW) infants. This study evaluated changes in body weight following a seven-day KMC program in the Neonatal Unit of Bayu Asih General Hospital, Purwakarta, from January to February 2026. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was used with total sampling of 15 stable LBW infants. Most infants were born at 35 or 36 weeks of gestation (5 infants [33.3%] in each gestational age group). Mothers performed nurse-supervised KMC for 1–2 hours daily. Infant body weight was measured using a calibrated digital scale before the intervention and on day 7. The mean baseline body weight was 1,625.0 ± 152.4 g, with a median of 1,550 g. After KMC, the mean body weight increased to 1,805.3 ± 169.9 g, with a median of 1,725 g. The mean weight gain was 180.3 g, the median difference was 175 g, the relative increase was 11.3%, and the average daily weight gain was approximately 25 g/day. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test demonstrated a statistically significant difference between pre- and post-intervention body weight (p = 0.001). An exact paired 95% confidence interval and rank-based effect size could not be calculated because the retained analysis output did not include the standard deviation of the paired differences or the Wilcoxon Z statistic. Kangaroo Mother Care was associated with short-term body weight gain in stable LBW infants. However, causal interpretation should be made cautiously because of the absence of a control group and the potential influence of unmeasured feeding practices and other co-interventions.

Abstract

Adolescence is a critical period of rapid growth that requires adequate nutritional intake, particularly iron. Nevertheless, anemia remains a common nutritional problem among adolescents and can negatively affect concentration, academic achievement, productivity, and future reproductive health. Limited knowledge about its causes, consequences, and prevention contributes to its high prevalence. The community service program “CEMARA (Preventing Adolescent Anemia): Building Healthy, Active, and Anemia-Free Adolescents” aimed to improve students’ knowledge of anemia prevention. Using a one-group pretest-posttest design, the program involved 61 students from SMK Dharma Bakti Indonesia across various grades and study programs. Data were analyzed descriptively and with the Marginal Homogeneity test. Good knowledge increased from 14.8% to 77.0%, while poor knowledge decreased from 52.5% to 8.2%. The difference was statistically significant (p<0.05), indicating that e-booklet-based health education effectively improved adolescents’ knowledge and should be implemented continuously in schools nationwide.
