Abstract

Stunting remains a significant nutritional issue in Indonesia, primarily caused by inadequate dietary intake. Nutritional deficiencies in toddlers often result from insufficient breastfeeding and a lack of proper nutrition from complementary foods. This study aims to evaluate the impact of supplementary feeding (PMT) made from snakehead fish on the nutritional status of stunted toddlers aged 24–47 months. The research employed a total sampling method, involving 15 toddlers within the specified age range. Prior to the intervention, the respondents had an average body weight of 10.77 kg, categorized as severely underweight. Following the administration of snakehead fish-based PMT, their average weight increased to 12.33 kg, falling into the underweight category. Statistical analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of the snakehead fish-based PMT in improving the nutritional status of stunted toddlers. These findings highlight the potential of local food sources, such as snakehead fish, to enhance maternal and child health efforts—particularly in addressing malnutrition through optimized use of locally sourced PMT in various preparations.

Abstract

Diabetes is a serious chronic condition that occurs due to the pancreas's inability to produce insulin in sufficient quantities or because the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces. In general, the use of traditional medicine is considered safer compared to modern treatments. One of the plants used as traditional medicine by the Dayak community is the laban plant, also known as halaban (Vitex pinnata), a plant native to Kalimantan. This study aims to analyse the effect of consuming boiled halaban (Vitex pinnata) leaf water on blood glucose levels. The research employed a quasi-experimental design with a control group and a pre-test–post-test approach. A total of 21 respondents were selected using a simple random sampling technique. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that before the intervention (pre-test), the majority of respondents (75.0% or 15 individuals) had high blood glucose levels. After consuming the boiled halaban leaf water (post-test), 50.0% (10 individuals) experienced a decrease in blood glucose levels to the moderate category. The Wilcoxon test indicated a statistically significant reduction in blood glucose levels after the intervention (p = 0.000, < 0.05). It can be concluded that consuming boiled halaban leaf water has a significant effect in lowering blood glucose levels.

With samples of 118 nurses, the research design described cross-sectional correlation. The research tool was a questionnaire with a 57.1% supervision and a 43.9% performance ratio. Purposive sampling was used to take the sample. The findings of the chi square analysis revealed a relationship between the performance of the nurses in the inpatient room at Dumai City General Hospital and the supervision provided by the nurse management (p=0,000=0,05). The administration of Dumai City General Hospital is hoped to strengthen nursing supervision activities in order to enhance the performance of the nurses in providing patient care.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Hypertension is one of the leading non-communicable diseases causing global mortality, with an increasing prevalence, including in Indonesia. Both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches are employed in managing hypertension. One non-pharmacological therapy is the administration of celery leaf decoction (Apium graveolens L.), which contains active compounds such as flavonoids and phthalides with potential blood pressure-lowering effects. Additionally, Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) techniques are effective in reducing blood pressure through physical and mental relaxation. Method: The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest without control group approach. The subjects were hypertensive patients at Adhyaksa Clinic, selected through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The abstract contains background (a brief description of the problem and research objectives) methods used, the results of the research, and conclusions (indicate the main conclusions). Conclusion: The majority of respondents were male (71.4%), aged 41–45 years (42.9%), held a bachelor's degree (85.7%), and worked as prosecutors (66.7%). The average systolic and diastolic blood pressures before the intervention were 149.52 mmHg and 89.52 mmHg, respectively, which decreased to 126.19 mmHg and 74.29 mmHg after the intervention. The analysis showed that celery leaf decoction and PMR movements were effective in reducing blood pressure, with a p-value of 0.000 (< 0.05).
