Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Bone markings must be studied and mastered in learning skeletal system anatomy. The short and interesting material in the pocketbook helps students identify preparations during the practicum, increasing their understanding and gaining practical grades. Objective: This research aims to determine the effectiveness of using the Skeletal System pocketbook on grades practical anatomy block of the Integumentary System and Locomotion for medical students in the first semester of the Universitas Jambi in 2023. Method: This research used a quasi-experimental method with a pre-test and post-test control group. The 106 sample students were from the Medical Study Program at Universitas Jambi class of 2023. Result: The mean pre-test and post-test grades for students with pocketbooks were 61.86 and 78.04, while those without pocketbooks were 63.74 and 71.35. In the mean pre-test grade, there was no significant difference between the experimental and control groups' mean grades (p-value = 0.488). Meanwhile, in the mean post-test grades, there was a significant difference between the two groups (p-Value = 0.005), where the experimental group had a higher mean grade. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in using the skeletal system anatomy pocketbook on the grade of anatomy practicum for medical students at Universitas Jambi. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Karamunting leaves (Rhodomyrtus tomentosa) are a medicinal plant widely used in Indonesia for their bioactive compounds, which exhibit anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antioxidant, antidyslipidemic, and anti-hyperglycemic properties. However, the safe dosage for human use remains undetermined. This study aims to assess the sub-acute toxicity of ethanol extracts of karamunting leaves on the hematological profile of female white rats. Methods: This study used an experimental laboratory design with a post-test control group. Karamunting leaves were extracted by maceration using 70% ethanol as the solvent. The hematological profiles measured included erythrocytes, leukocytes, platelets, and hematocrit levels. Female white rats of the Wistar were randomly divided into six groups. The negative control group received only a 0.5% Na CMC suspension, while the treatment groups received ethanol extracts of karamunting leaves at doses of 200 mg/kg BW, 400 mg/kg BW, 800 mg/kg BW, 1600 mg/kg BW, and 3200 mg/kg BW. Blood samples were collected after 14 days of treatment. Results: The hematological profiles indicated no significant differences among the groups. However, the treatment group that received extracts at a dose of 1600 mg/kg BW showed a poor hematological profile. Conclusion: Generally, the ethanol extract of karamunting leaves did not affect the hematological profiles of the test animals. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The government's stunting prevention measures begin with improving nutrition, namely during adolescence, in the case of prospective brides, pregnant women, postpartum mothers, and toddlers. Empowerment for women in the community or at home is expected to reduce stunting problems and various child health problems. This study aims to screen for risk factors and prevent stunting in women of childbearing age. Methods: Thirty-six women of childbearing age attended this research activity in the Olak Kemang Health Center working area. The activities included pre-marital nutrition education for women of childbearing age, examination of weight, height, arm circumference, and measurement of blood haemoglobin. Results: The body mass index of Women of Childbearing Age was the most in the thin category, namely 39% (BMI <18.5), haemoglobin levels >12 as much as 58,33%, upper arm circumference above 22 as much as 78% and there was an increase in knowledge assessed from the results of the pretest and posttest, it is known that the average pretest value is 60, and the posttest value is 80. Conclusion: Management of iron tablet administration is needed for women of childbearing age who experience anaemia and increased nutritional intake in women of childbearing age. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Overweight and obesity are linked to liver disease and dysfunction, as obesity can adversely affect liver function through various mechanisms. The study aims to determine the effect of intermittent fasting type 5:2 and physical activity on SGOT, SGPT, body weight, and BMI levels. Methods: The research design used a pre-post-test group research design. The subjects of the study were overweight and obese individuals at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Jambi. Results: The study concluded that intermittent fasting and physical activity did not significantly affect SGOT and SGPT levels, with minimal changes (SGOT: 29.40 to 27.85, p=0.699; SGPT: 30.85 to 29.35, p=0.735). However, there were significant reductions in body weight (from 80.02 kg to 77.35 kg, p<0.001) and Body Mass Index (BMI) (from 29.69 to 28.68, p<0.001). Conclusion: Intermittent fasting and physical activity impacted body weight and BMI but did not affect SGOT and SGPT levels. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: In Indonesia, inadequate hygiene practices often threaten food safety. This research aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitudes of food traders towards their hygiene behavior. Methods: This research is an observational quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach conducted in June 2024 at Car Free Day Telanaipura, Jambi City. The research sampling technique used a total sampling method on 100 food traders. Data was collected through a questionnaire that assessed demographic profiles, knowledge, attitudes, and personal hygiene behavior and analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: The results show that 60% of respondents have good knowledge, while 42% have a good attitude regarding personal hygiene. Statistical tests show a significant relationship between knowledge of personal hygiene behavior (p=0.047) and a significant relationship between attitudes towards the personal hygiene behavior of traders (p=0.028). Conclusion: Good knowledge and attitudes towards personal hygiene are associated with better hygiene behavior among traders. Therefore, increasing hygiene knowledge and attitudes among food traders needs to be strengthened through ongoing education and outreach to improve food hygiene standards in public areas. Abstract

Background: Exercise therapy is a medical rehabilitation intervention to increase upper and lower extremity muscle strength in post-stroke patients. Objective: This study aims to determine the characteristics of stroke patients at H. Abdul Manap Jambi Regional Hospital in 2022–2024, including age, gender, and history of comorbidities (hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia). In addition, this study identifies muscle strength before and after exercise therapy and analyzes the effect of therapy duration on increasing muscle strength. Methods: This study is an observational analytic study with a cross-sectional approach. Secondary data were obtained from medical records of stroke patients at H. Abdul Manap Jambi Regional Hospital from 2022 to 2024. The sample consisted of 52 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Data analysis used the Paired Sample T-test or Wilcoxon test based on the normality test. Results: Exercise therapy significantly increased upper and lower extremity muscle strength after exercise therapy (p <0.05). Most patients experienced improvement on the Manual Muscle Testing (MMT) scale, especially in the lower extremities, with a dominant increase from scores 2 to 3 and 4. Conclusion: Exercise therapy significantly increases upper and lower extremity muscle strength in post-stroke patients. Therefore, it can be recommended in rehabilitation to optimize motor function recovery.
