Abstract

The cause of global warming occurring in the world originates from the transportation sector, particularly Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles using fossil fuels. As a response, the Indonesian government has enacted regulations aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles developed in Indonesia encompass two-wheeled, three-wheeled, four-wheeled, and other types that operate by utilizing electrical energy stored in the vehicle's battery. One notable development involves the conversion of ICE motorcycles into electric motorcycles. This study seeks to assess the investment feasibility of implementing convertible motorcycles from economic, environmental, and social perspectives. The economic aspects are evaluated by calculating net present value (NPV) and payback period (PP), with the study's results demonstrating the economic viability of implementing convertible motorcycles. Furthermore, environmental considerations involve the comparison of chemical substances emitted as pollutants, with the results indicating the feasibility of this approach due to its potential to reduce air pollution. Lastly, the social aspect encompasses the review of potential impacts should converted electric motorcycles be produced on a large scale. The success of implementing convertible motorcycles necessitates the collaboration of various stakeholders, including the government, small and medium enterprises, electricity service providers, and the awareness of the public.

Abstract

Ensuring accurate measurement of precision components is critical in the automotive industry. This study investigates measurement challenges for screw shaft components at the Teaching Factory of Politeknik STMI Jakarta. The initial measurement system performed poorly, with 100% total variation attributed to measurement error and a Number of Distinct Categories (Ndc) of 1, indicating an inability to distinguish product variations. To address this, a Measurement System Analysis (MSA) using the Gage Repeatability and Reproducibility (GRR) method was conducted. Improvements, including operator training, regular calibration, and a custom jig fixture, were implemented. As a result, the GRR value decreased to 26.27%, with repeatability contributing 25.40% and reproducibility 6.74%. The Ndc value increased to 5, reflecting improved capability to differentiate product variations. These outcomes demonstrate that MSA is an effective strategy for evaluating and enhancing measurement systems. It is particularly valuable in vocational education settings to ensure measurement reliability, maintain quality standards, and support industry-relevant skill development.

Abstract

Maintenance is essential to sustain machine operation and prevent performance degradation caused by continuous use in production processes. In the lubricant production line, the high downtime of the carton erector machine indicates the need for a more effective maintenance policy, particularly for failure-prone components. This study aims to formulate preventive maintenance recommendations by identifying critical components, determining appropriate maintenance actions through the integration of Pareto analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), and establishing component replacement intervals to reduce downtime associated with age-related failures. The results of the study show that the proposed approach reduces downtime for critical components of the carton erector machine by 58.53%, exceeding the reductions reported in previous studies, which ranged from 35% to 45%. In addition, a replacement interval of 10,000 minutes was found to better reflect the specific degradation characteristics of critical components. These findings highlight that maintenance policies for highly utilized machines should not rely primarily on breakdown maintenance, especially for critical components with high failure vulnerability. This study contributes by proposing an adaptive maintenance framework that integrates scheduled maintenance with component degradation characteristics. The proposed approach is relevant not only to lubricant manufacturing companies but also to other industrial sectors that depend on highly utilized machinery, where even short downtime can significantly affect operational reliability, productivity, and cost efficiency.
