Abstract

ABSTRACTBasal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is a malignant neoplasm derived from nonkeratinizing cells that originate in the basal layer of the epidermis, which is locally invasive, aggressive, destructive, and rarely metastasize. BCC is more common in the elderly. Etiopathogenesis associated with BCC is genetic, environmental, and most often is exposure to ultraviolet light. Clinically, there are five types of BCC, which are nodular, superficial, morpheaform, pigmented, and fibroepitelioma Pinkus. Early detection of skin cancer can be done with self skin examination. Definitive diagnosis of malignancy is determined by anatomical pathology examination. However, for very early BCC lesion, it’s difficult to determine with hematoxylin eosin staining. Therefore, it is uses Ber-EP4 staining which is specific and highly sensitive for early BCC growing as budding in basal layer of the epidermis and follicles. This finding is particularly significant in the development of molecular pathology and clinical management of BCC lesions or suspected BCC.

Abstract

ABSTRACTBasal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant type of skin cancer found in the world today with a 3-10% increase in incidence each year. In Indonesia, BCC is one of the major types of skin cancer found. Therefore a method needs to be developed that can detect BCC at the early stages to prevent late diagnosis of BCC which may lead to metastasis causing disabilities to patients and increasing treatment costs. Various studies have shown BerEP4 as an effective and efficient tool that can be used for early diagnosis and prevention of recurrence post-surgery. This study aims to evaluate the use of BerEP4 in detecting early BCC cells and its potential as a gold standard. The use of BerEP4 immunohistochemistry testing as a gold standard for the routine examination for cases of BCC is expected to be able to increase and improve early diagnosis as well as prevent recurrence postsurgery.ABSTRAKKarsinoma Sel Basal (KSB) merupakan jenis kanker kulit yang paling banyak ditemukan di dunia saat ini dan terjadi peningkatan 3-10% jumlah penderita KSB setiap tahun.

Abstract

Healthy skin is necessary for the body to provide active protection against changes in the environment. In order to preserve skin moisture and give protection from ultraviolet (UV) light, a healthy stratum corneum is mandatory. Several skin disease, including atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, ichthiosis, and psoriasis, are associated with anomalies in stratum corneum hydration. Meanwhile, erythema, photosensitivity, and skin cancer can all result from prolonged exposure to UV radiation. This study were done withis a cross sectional with non-random consecutive sampling. The parameters taken in this study include demographic (age and gender), skin moisture / moist (%) and sun damage / UV Damage (%). Thirty adolescents between 12-18 years were included in the study (20 male (66,7%), vs 10 female (33,3%). The mean facial moisture was 63.6 (± 14.72)%, and sun damage was 31.53 (±14.47)%. These data suggest that dry skin and UV skin damage can happen to anyone including teenagers. Therefore it is essential to maintain the skin moisture and protect it from UV radiation, to obtain healthy skin and prevent associated skin problems.

Abstract

Aging of the skin that occurs in the elderly has an impact on skin moisture. There are various factors that can influence skin moisture, both unchangeable and changeable. Disturbed skin moisture can cause various skin problems and reduce the sufferer's quality of life. This makes it important to provide education and skin hydration screening to the public, especially the elderly. Education is carried out by conveying information about skin moisture, influencing factors, as well as ways to prevent and care for the skin. The increasing number of elderly people in Indonesia makes it important for us to pay attention to their health. Skin care that can be done to maintain skin hydration includes using moisturizers, humidifiers in rooms with low humidity, using soft soap without fragrance, avoiding long showers, using sunscreen, and clothing that is not too tight. It is hoped that education and screening can increase public awareness regarding the importance of maintaining skin hydration, especially for the elderly, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of public health in Indonesia.
