Abstract

The natural methane formed by bacteria in anaerobic conditions is known as biogenic gas. Gas trapped in coal, formed through thermogenesis as well as biogenesisis known as coal-bed methane (CBM). The availability of organic material as decomposition of this material into methane is continuously required for the production of methane in the coal aquifer. The aim of this research was to investigate whether or not cattle feces bacteria were able to grow and produce methane in coal. Parameters measured were Volatile Fatty Acids (VFA) and the production of biogas, such as nitrogen, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and methane. Explorative method was used and data obtained was analyzed by descriptive approach. The results showed that the bacteria found in the feces survived in the coal and produce biogas. On day 2 when the process was at the acidogenesis phase, it produced VFA with the largest component of acetic acid. Acetic acid would undergo decarboxylation and reduction of CO2 followed by reactions of H2and CO2 to produce methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) as the final products. ,

Abstract

Cheese is one of the processed products originating from milk which is mostly imported from other countries. Fresh cheese is a soft cheese without ripening process. Protease is one of the important enzymes in cheese making industry, which  catalyst to hydrolyze peptide bonds.  The purpose of this study was to study the physical and chemical characteristics of fresh cheese at several concentrations of strawberry extract as a coagulant. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of three treatments at the concentration level of strawberry extract P1 (20%), P2 (30%), and P3 (40%), with six replications. The data obtained were evaluated using the variance test and to determine the differences between treatments, the Duncan multiple distance test was carried out. The observed variables were yield, water content, milk clotting activity, pH and color of fresh cheese. The results showed that strawberry extract can be used as a coagulant in the manufacture of fresh cheese up to a concentration of 40% with a yield of 23.81%, water content, milk clotting activity 1260.09 SU/mL, pH 5.04 and the color includes L*59, 48, a* 12.67 and b* 17.32.

Abstract

Cherry leaves are an alternative material that can be used as a natural disinfectant because they contain active compounds in the form of flavonoids, saponins, and tannins which can work as antibacterial compounds in milk storage rooms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using cherry leaves extract as a natural disinfectant through testing the inhibition zone and calculating the total number of bacteria in the milk storage room, and for knowing the concentration of cherry leaves which showed the best inhibition in the milk storage room. The study was conducted experimentally using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and continued with Tukey's Test and Orthogonal Polynomial Test with three treatments, namely P1 (30% concentration), P2 (40% concentration), and P3 (50% concentration) with five replications. The results showed that cherry leaves extract was able to inhibit gram-positive bacteria in the form of cocci and bacilli and gram-negative bacteria in the form of cocci.. Extract of cherry leaves with a concentration of 50% was the most effective concentration as a natural disinfectant with an average inhibition zone formed of 9.73 mm against gram-positive bacteria cocci form, 9.22 mm against gram-positive bacteria in the form of bacilli, and 9.40 mm against bacteria gram negative cocci form, and the average decrease in the total number of bacteria was 92.51% on the floor.

Abstract

Cherry leaves are an alternative material that can be used as a natural disinfectant because they contain active com-pounds in the form of flavonoids, saponins, and tannins which can work as antibacterial compounds in duck egg hatching machines. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cherry leaf infusion and the most effective concentration level on the ability to reduce the number of bacteria and inhibit bac-teria in duck egg hatching machines. This research was conduc-ted experimentally using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) and continued with the Tukey test with three treatments, namely P1 (50% concentration), P2 (75% concentration), and P3 (100% concentration) and six replications. The observed varia-bles were the decrease in the number of bacteria, inhibition zone of bacilli bacteria and inhibition zone of bacteria coccus in the duck egg hatching machine. The results showed that cherry leaf infusion had the same effect (P>0.05) on decreasing the number of bacteria and showed a different effect (P<0.05) on the inhibi-tion zone of gram positive and gram negative bacilli but had no effect on the inhibition zone gram negative and positive cocci bacteria, and cherry leaf infusion with a concentration of 75% produced the most effective inhibition zone for decreasing the number of bacteria and the ability to inhibit bacteria.

Abstract

Pandemi covid19 menyebar dengan cepat dari satu wilayah ke wilayah lainnya. Penyebarannya sangat cepat, sehingga hampir seluruh negara yang terjangkit wabah covit19, tidak ada yang mempersiapkan masyarakatnya untuk menghadapi hal tersebut. Kebijakan pemerintah mengharuskan masyarakat untuk stay at home, bahkan bekerja, sekolah dilakukan dari rumah, menggunakan metode daring. Sosialisasi dan penyuluhan tentang pemahaman covid19 serta hidup bersih dan sehat dengan mengolah limbah rumah tangga menjadi pupuk organik, perlu dilakukan agar masyarakat dapat bersikap positif dalam menghadapi pandemic covid19 ini.  Sebelum dilakukan sosialisasi dan penyuluhan tentang covid19, masyarakat secara umum telah mengetahui mikroorganisme penyebab penyakit, cara pencegahannya dengan melakukan pola hidup bersih dan sehat tetapi secara specific untuk kasus covid19, masyarakat masih belum sepenuhnya mengetahui, dan masyarakat belum melakukan pengolahan limbah dapur sebagai wujud pola hidup bersih dan sehat, hal ini tergambar dalam hasil pre-test dan post-test yang dilakukan pada ibu-ibu PKK. Kesimpulan sosialisasi dan penyuluhan yang dilakukan di RT01 RW20 Kelurahan Padasuka Kecamatan Cimahi Tengah Kota Cimahi secara keseluruhan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan ibu-ibu PKK dalam hal penyebab penyakit, gejala covid19, tindakan preventif dengan melaksanakan hidup bersih dan sehat, serta melakukan pengolahan limbah dapur dan memanfaatkan kompos yang dihasilkan.

Abstract

Cileles Village has enormous potential, both from human resources and natural resources. The entrepreneurial atmosphere in Cileles Village has been formed with the emergence of home industry entrepreneurs such as banana chips, cassava chips, catering, resin sculpture, furniture business, farming / livestock business, bag convection business, and groceries business. Entrepreneurial activities carried out by the community in Cileles Village have various obstacles that can hinder the running of the business, including marketing, regeneration, knowledge of how to produce good processed food, use of labels, raw materials, and licensing. The marketing area carried out by entrepreneurs in Cileles Village is only around Jatinangor, so that their business is underdeveloped. Increasing knowledge of entrepreneurs in Cileles is needed, assistance to PKK members is one of them. The method used in this extension is through entrepreneurship training. The target is PKK members as many as 30 people. The training materials include simple bookkeeping with Google sheets, food safety training on good food processing, repairing packaging, repairing labels, choose an alternative product if raw material is difficult and assistance in preparing permits.

Abstract

Dalam mencapai  konsep zero waste dalam industri peternakan, pengetahuan peternak dalam teknologi pengolahan limbah ternak menjadi hal yang sangat penting.    Salah satu teknologi yang dapat diseminasikan kepada peternak adalah teknologi pengolahan limbah ternak.   Pelaksanaan  yang digunakan pada program pengabdian kepada masyarakat  ini adalah melalui penyuluhan   berdasarkan pendekatan kelompok melalui temu lapang (field day), ceramah, dan demonstrasi cara.  Mitra dalam pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah kelompok peternak Medal Giri Bakti di Desa Jatiroke Kecamatan Jatinangor Sumedang.  Kelompok Peternak Medal Giri Bakti memelihara ternak sapi potong untuk pembibitan sebanyak 23 ekor.   Permasalahan yang akan dihadapi oleh mitra adalah persoalan limbah ternak sapi potong yang perlu ditangani secara tepat.  Di sisi lain, peternak harus menyediakan hijauan pakan ternak yang berkualitas dan kontinyu agar ternak sapi yang dipelihara dapat terjamin kualitas pakannya.  Pemanfaatan limbah ternak sapi potong sebagai pupuk organik dapat mendukung peternak dalam kemandirian pakan hijauan ternak.   Hasil pengolahan limbah ternak adalah pupuk organik cair dan pupuk organik padat  berupa vermicompost.  Anggota Kelompok Ternak Medal Giri Bakti sebagian besar belum menguasai teknologi pengolahan limbah secara terpadu.  Setelah program penyuluhan berlangsung selama 6 bulan, semua anggota relative menguasai walaupun belum mempraktekkan sendiri.  Diperlukan monitoring dan evaluasi yang berkesinambungan untuk mencapai target yang diharapkan.

Abstract

Red betel is a multipurpose plant, because apart from being an ornamental plant, because of the beauty of its leaves, it also has several active compounds as antibacterial agents. The aim of this research was to study the effectiveness of red betel leaf extract as a natural disinfectant in the milk storage room through its inhibitory power against bacteria in situ and its effect on reducing the number of total bacteria on the floor, table, and walls in the milk storage room.     The research used experimental method using completely randomized design with 3 treatments of red betel leaf extract concentration, P1 = 15%, P2 = 25%, P3 = 35%, each treatment was repeated 6 times. The research data were analyzed using analysis of variance and Tukey's test. The results showed that the highest reduction in the total number of bacteria was in the red betel leaf extract with a concentration of 35%, both on the floor, table, and walls in the milk storage room, respectively 52.40%, 59.96%, and 61.77%. The inhibition zone of red betel leaf extract against bacteria in situ was the highest at a concentration of 35% red betel leaf extract on the floor, table and wall, namely 9.12; 10.65; and 10.76 mm.

Abstract

Guava leaves can be used as a natural preservative in quail carcass because they contain antimicrobial compounds such as flavonoid and tannin. This study studied the effect of using guava leaves infusion on quail carcass on the total bacteria, Enterobacteriaceae, and early spoilage.  The research used an experimental method with a completely randomized design, 3 treatments of guava leaves infusion concentration, namely P1 = 25%, P2 = 50%. And P3 = 75%, each treatment was repeated 6 times.  The application of infusion to quail carcass was carried out by immersion for 15 minutes.  Data were analyzed using ANOVA and Turkey’s test.  The results showed that the total bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae before immersion were 3.80 x 107 cfu/g and 1.90 x 104 cfu/g, respectively.  Soaking quail carcass in guava leaves infusion was able to reduce the total bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae to 72.15% and 78.50%, respectively.  The early spoilage was inversely proportional to the total bacteria and Enterobacteriaceae resulted in longer shelf life.

Abstract

Dekomposisi awal memiliki peran penting dalam proses pengomposan.   Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan dinamika populasi mikroba dan degradasi serat kasar selama proses dekomposisi awal. Limbah ternak pada umumnya memiliki rasio karbon dan nitrogen yang rendah sehingga diperlukan penambahan jerami padi sebagai sumber karbon. Penelitian ini menggunakan tiga perlakuan rasio C/N: 20, 25, dan 30. Perubahan suhu, pH, jumlah total bakteri, jumlah actinomycetes, jumlah kapang diamati selama 7 hari proses dekomposisi awal.  Kadar lignin, selulosa, dan hemiselulosa diamati pada akhir dekomposisi awal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rasio C/N 30 menghasilkan proses dekomposisi tertinggi, dengan fase termofilik terjadi pada hari ke 2 dengan suhu tertinggi 57oC dan pH 8,79. Temperatur mencerminkan proses dekomposisi yang tinggi melalui aktivitas mikroba dalam mendekomposisi bahan organik. Total jumlah bakteri dan actinomycetes yang dicapai pada fase termofilik berturut-turut 179 x 1011 cfu/g dan 87 x 105 cfu/g. Kapang berkembang pada suhu mesofilik pada hari ke 5 dan volume total tertinggi mencapai 48 x 1011 cfu/g pada hari ke 6. Proses dekomposisi awal mampu mereduksi lignin sebesar 30,57%. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dinamika populasi mikroba dipengaruhi oleh ketersediaan nutrisi dalam substrat yang dijelaskan oleh rasio C/N. Pertumbuhan bakteri dan aktinomycetes tertinggi terjadi pada suhu termofilik sementara kapang berkembang pada suhu mesofilik. Kandungan lignin dan hemiselulosa pada substrat menurun.
