Abstract

This paper aims to explore the integration of Service Quality (SERVQUAL) and two specific Total Quality Management (TQM) techniques -benchmarking and Ishikawa diagram- to improve quality in the service industry, particularly in the hospitality industry. The survey was administered to respondents at one five-star hotel in Bandung City, Indonesia. Benchmarking was conducted to compare this hotel to two other hotels at similar levels and within geographical proximity. Ishikawa analysis was then performed to analyze potential causes. The results of the study identified eleven negative score attributes (out of twenty-one) from SERVQUAL, which was in line with the benchmarking results. The Ishikawa diagram showed the root causes of these attributes and helped with developing ideas for practical quality improvements in the future. Most studies in the hospitality industry have examined SERVQUAL and TQM separately. Our study contributes uniquely to the existing literature by providing insight into the combination of SERVQUAL and two TQM specific tools to improve quality operations in a hospitality setting.

Abstract

The increasing economic growth in Indonesia encourages the growth of SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). This condition results in the intense competition among similar SMEs. This encourages companies to always produce quality products in order to meet customers’ satisfaction. One of the methods to control the quality is by using Six Sigma. Six sigma is a method of improving the quality towards the target of 3.4 failures per million opportunities for each production of goods and services. Six sigma is divided into two methods, namely DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) and DMADV (Define, Measure, Analyze, Design, Verify). Six Sigma can be implemented not only for big companies but also for SMEs. This study was conducted to determine the application of quality control aspect of Six Sigma in CV. Berkah Abadi as an SME in producing shoes under the name BNA. This study utilized DMAIC method. By using Six Sigma, it can be seen that the sigma value in the production process of CV Berkah Abadi is 3,274 with the possibility of error products contained is 38758.87 in a million occasions. In the application of Six Sigma in this study, there are six causes of defective products, namely untidy glue application (41.7%), stains (23.8%), squiggled pattern (11.9%), untidy stitches neat (10.4%), wrinkles (8.9%) and torn materials (2.9%).

Abstract

Cultural village is an area-based development concept that engages with the culture and creative industries as well as tactical urbanism. Typically, a cultural village is situated in geographical areas that have traditionally had strong cultural themes and have the potential for socio-economic growth in the surrounding region. Decision-making in this environment differs from pure-profit sector decision-making. This study set out to draw lessons from the cultural village, especially in Global South, where the culturally-led consensus approach is used to reshape group decision-making processes. This study uses a systematic review method as a way to search, screen, analyze and synthesize knowledge from the academic database. The Scopus academic database is used for the search process. This paper concludes that the inclusion of culture into decision-making offers three stages of fundamental lessons for the community, which are flexibility, openness, and innovation. These three forms the foundation for the five main elements of decision-making in the cultural village, which include inclusive, participatory, collaborative, agreement-seeking, and cooperative. These findings suggest that the culturally-led consensus approach is a potential tool for policymakers to work with the community, especially to organize more bottom-up decision-making processes in traditional environments.

Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze whether there is an influence between price fairness, relationship quality, perceived betrayal on switching intentions. This research uses Partial Least Square Structural Equation Model (SEM PLS). The method used in this study is non-probability sampling. The population used in this study are consumers who have transacted in e-marketplaces and moved to other e-marketplaces in Bengkulu city and 353 samples were selected. The results showed that price fairness had a negative effect on the perception of betrayal, the quality of the relationship had a negative effect on the perception of betrayal, price fairness had a positive effect on the relationship, the perception of betrayal had a positive effect on switching intention, price fairness had a negative effect on switching intentions, and the quality of the relationship had no negative effect. on switching intentions. Even though the quality of the relationship with customers is good, customers can still intend to switch to other e-marketplaces. For further research, the authors suggest examining other factors that may influence the relationship, such as alternative product offerings, prices, promotions, discounts, and others so that this research will be more extensive.

Abstract

Indonesia's salt production has great potential, but is still hampered by fluctuations in quality and productivity influenced by weather factors. Dependence on the weather causes instability in salt production results, which impacts achieving salt self-sufficiency. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the influence of climate factors on the productivity and quality of traditional salt in Central Java Province, including temperature, humidity, rainfall, and wind speed. This study uses a quantitative approach, with data collected from 8 salt-producing districts/cities in Central Java with purposive sampling. Climate data was obtained from BMKG, while productivity and quality data were obtained from the Central Java DKP. The analysis technique used panel data regression with the Least Squares (OLS) approach and the Chow, Hausman, and Lagrange Multiplier tests to select the best model. The results showed that rainfall significantly negatively affected traditional salt productivity, while temperature, humidity, and wind speed did not show a significant effect. Overall, climate conditions were shown to affect salt productivity positively. Temperature and humidity have a significant positive effect on salt quality, wind speed has a significant negative effect, and rainfall has no significant effect on salt quality. Overall, climate conditions have a positive effect on salt quality. Rainfall and temperature management are essential to increase salt productivity and quality, while climate factor management will produce optimal results. The development of modern salt production technology that reduces dependence on extreme weather and better management of natural resources and technology can support the achievement of more stable and sustainable salt self-sufficiency.
