Abstract

Abstract

This study analyzed the linkage of risk factors in the return process of fast-moving consumer good (FMCG) logistics systems. The risk of returning products due to expired, near expiration, order errors and bad stock (damaged) haunts sustainable supply chains in the industry. In four business processes, warehousing, transport/distribution, production/supply and order processing identified twenty-two risk factors that cause the return process. The decision-making and trial evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method helps decision-makers simplify causal relationships between twenty-two complex risk factors. Through the depiction of the matrix and the network relationship map, twelve risk factors entered the dispatcher group, namely risk factors that can affect other risk factors that impact the return process on the FMCG logistics system. The result becomes a reference for decision makers to prioritize risk factors management that have a relationship with other risk factors, because the impact obtained will be maximal.

Abstract

Increasingly fierce business competition requires companies to be able to meet customer desires on time, in the right amount and in the right quality. FMCG XXX Company is a skin care product manufacturing company that focuses on production activities. Therefore, the company transfers product distribution activities to customers (distributors) to Logistics Service Providers (LSP). FMCG XXX hold consumer’s satisfaction in the highest regard. Along with the increasing number of activities being diverted, FMCG XXX companies aim to evaluate LSP performance through appropriate indicators. The indicators evaluated in this study adopt dimensions in Physical Distribution Service Quality (PDSQ) which consist of three dimensions, namely timeliness, availability and condition. Based on the results of the study, 13 indicators were obtained that FMCG XXX Company used to evaluate LSP performance. In general, around 69% of LSP's actual performance has been able to meet the targets set by the company, where two indicators are able to exceed the target and seven indicators are in accordance with the target. However, the company still has to focus on four indicators that have negative deviations because the actual performance value is less than the target set by the company. Negative indicators come from the availability and condition dimensions. The company coordinates with LSP to design improvement projects in order to improve actual performance according to the company's targets.

Abstract

Abstract

This research focuses on the return process, the process where consumers decide to return the product after receiving an order or after making a purchase. This incident is not desired by the company, because it has the potential to reduce profits and consumer loyalty. However, the company is aware that the return process cannot be avoided. So this research aims to evaluate the factors that have the potential to cause the return process by using the Interpretive Structural Modeling (ISM) Methodology. This research case study was conducted on a textile company that serves orders for school uniforms, office uniforms, moslem clothes, etc. Nine factors were identified, that are: off-season, overstock, delivery error, incorrect size, incorrect color, quality issue, change mind, damaged item, and incorrect product, which are the reasons consumers carry out the return process. The results of the ISM-based model and MICMAC analysis mapping show that the quality issue factor is the key reason for consumers to make the return process. The strategy of handling presses return in connection with these factors is carried out by developing a system that supports customer support work to maintain consumer loyalty. Through the ISM methodology, companies can simplify complex problems, so they focus on the factors that are the root of the problem to be able to design strategies to deal with them.
