Abstract

This climate change impacts the coast of Indonesia, which causes erosion and tidal flooding. This coastal damage significantly affects vital areas in the form of tourist areas, such as on the south coast of Bali. The erosion rate on Bali's beaches currently reaches 2 m/year and dramatically impacts the existence of beach tourism objects in Bali. Seawalls and revetments dominate coastal protection structures built from the 1990s. The existing system is experiencing problems, namely tidal flooding and runoff at the building's crest. The method analyzes sea-level changes over time (time series) and numerical simulations with CMS-Wave to obtain wave heights in the structure. Extreme water level (Extreme Coastal Water Level) is calculated from the creep due to wave height, sea level rise, tides, and storms. The results of this study indicate that the rising water level in 2022 will cause 53.80% of buildings to experience overtopping. In the next 20 years (2042), the percentage of buildings experiencing overtopping will increase to 67.08%.

Abstract

Penimbangan Beach, located in Bakti Seraga Village, Buleleng, has functioned as an area for fishermen to catch fish but has now been changed to become a tourism destination. The coastline of Penimbangan Beach is 803 meters, according to direct measurements with coastal protection sea wall along the shoreline in the field. With the change in function, many traders’ kiosks are now selling on the sea wall, and coastal protection has caused damage. Besides that, wave overtopping often occurs during high tides, causing objects that should be protected by the sea wall to be exposed to wave overtopping. Based on the issues mentioned above, a coastal damage assessment is required, divided into 16 segments, each segment being 50 meters. The results of the coastal damage assessment yielded the scales of Priority C (preferred), Priority D (less prioritized), and Priority E (not prioritized). The result of evaluating the physical condition of all of the sea walls received fairly good results. The performance function of the coastal protection at Penimbangan Beach shows that segments 1-5 have good functional performance, requiring only monitoring of the sea wall. However, segments 6-16 have poor functional performance due to wave overtopping, necessitating a reassessment of the sea wall.

Abstract

The Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks - Dynamic Infrared Rain Rate near real-time (PDIR-Now). Abstract. Accurate, reliable, and near-real-time rainfall data are critical factors for forecasting and mitigating hydro-meteorological natural disasters (such as floods, landslides, typhoons, and extreme rainfall), hydrological modeling, weather forecasting, agricultural planning, ecological management, and water resource management. Rainfall observations from station measurements face challenges in Bali Province, particularly due to the scarcity of measurements in remote and mountainous areas. Therefore, it is necessary to seek reliable sources of rainfall data, such as satellite-based rainfall products, which provide near real-time data, uninterrupted rainfall time series, and high spatial resolution. This research evaluates the performance of global near real-time satellite rainfall products with data from 43 stations across Bali Province. The satellite rainfall products analyzed include the Integrated Multi-satellite Retrievals for Global Precipitation Measurement-Early Run (IMERG-ER) and the Precipitation Estimation from Remotely Sensed Information using Artificial Neural Networks - Dynamic Infrared Rain Rate near real-time (PDIR-Now). Subsequently, the satellite-based rainfall data were corrected using three approaches: bias ratio correction, mean deviation correction, and probability distribution function value correction. Traditional point-to-pixel methods, along with continuous statistical measurements, categorical metrics, and volumetric indices, were implemented to evaluate the performance of satellite products. The study reveals that although both datasets have their respective strengths, IMERG tends to be more consistent and reliable under various conditions compared to PERSIANN, especially after corrections are applied. The probability distribution function value correction demonstrated the most significant performance improvement compared to the other correction methods. The findings of this study also emphasize the necessity of error correction before satellite-based rainfall data is applied across various fields. Submitted: 2024-09-14 Revisions:  2025-03-06 Accepted: 2024-09-11 Published: 2025-03-14

Abstract

This study aims to map the collective identity of the people of Tumbu Village, Karangasem, Bali, using historical approaches, cultural landscape studies, and an analysis of customary rules. The primary data are sourced from 13th-century inscriptions such as the Ruk-ruk, Pasemetan, and Tumbu Puseh Inscriptions, along with awig-awig (local customary laws) that remain actively implemented. The research applies a descriptive-qualitative method through field observations, literature reviews, traditional document interpretation, and participatory interviews with community leaders and local residents. The findings reveal that the collective identity of Tumbu Village is shaped by the integration of historical values, agrarian landscapes, the Hindu-Balinese spiritual system, and a living social structure embedded in customary norms. While modernization has introduced significant changes in architecture and social structures, local communities have managed to adapt culturally without losing their traditional values. Community-based strategies have proven effective in preserving the harmony between cultural heritage and village development. The key outputs of this program include a landscape identity map, a social structure infographic, and a brief guide to customary spatial principles that may serve as a reference for village planning grounded in local wisdom. This study affirms the urgency of preserving collective identity and customary spatial systems as foundational to sustainable development in traditional Balinese villages.

Abstract

Climate change due to increasing temperatures causes changes in sea conditions. Rising sea levels and increasing the occurrence of high waves are the impacts of climate change. This condition threatens the existence of small islands, including Indonesia. One of the islands that is vulnerable to this condition is Sophialousia Island which is the southern border of Indonesia and Australia. The vulnerability of Sophialousia Island was analyzed using the Integrated Coastal Vulneron ability Index (ICVI) and adding sea level rise parameters. The number of parameters reviewed are 7 (seven) parameters, namely the type of coastal slope, beach conditions, the percentage of coastal protection, storm events, rob events, sea level rise (SLR), and land use. CMS-Wave modelling is used for strategy simulation handling to reduce the risk of island vulnerability. The results of the vulnerability assessment by ICVI showed that Sophialousia Island was classified as high vulnerability due to climate change. So the recommended handling strategy is to build a floating breakwater and make a revetment. The floating breakwater reduces storm surges, and the revetment increases the island's elevation so it is resistant to SLR.

Abstract

Tourism plays a role in accelerating the process of economic transformation in rural areas. Village communities who initially worked as farmers were gradually able to learn to develop services to support tourism in a village. The momentum of tradition, culture and environmental exoticism can be packaged as village tourism products attractive to visitors from outside the region. Efforts to increase the number of tourist villages as an effort to move the village economy are also carried out in several villages in Bali Province. One of the village plans that will be developed as an ecotourism-based village is Besang Kawan Village which is included in the administrative area of Semarapura Kaja Village. The problems faced by Partners in this case the village development team in Semarapura Kaja Village are the lack of tourism supporting infrastructure and the not yet maximized potential of Besang Kaja Village as an ecotourism village. Based on the initial survey and discussions conducted with the leaders and community of Besang Kawan Village, it is known that the village has potential in the form of religious tourism objects (Tirta Celempung Temple) and landscapes in the form of rice fields. Based on the documentation of the survey results above, information is obtained that currently, in Besang Kawan Village, there is tourism potential, and the existing infrastructure is still relatively minimal. As an initial step in the development of Besang Kawan Village as a tourist village, a jogging track is proposed that crosses the potentials of Besang Kawan Village. This jogging track will cross residential areas and rice fields. The length of the jogging track is 1878m. The design of this jogging track is paving block pavement which enhances the aesthetics of the track. At a distance of every 300m will be equipped with a rest area so that visitors can rest.

Abstract

The development of settlements in urban areas is getting higher, causing complex problems to arise. Population growth also affects the need for land. This condition occurs in a residential area on Jalan Akasia, Kesiman Village. There have been regulations in the form of Perda Perda No.27 of 2011 concerning Spatial Planning of Denpasar City of 2011-2031 and Perda of Denpasar City No. 5 of 2019 concerning buildings. The regulation regulates the Basic Building Coefficient (KDB) so that infiltration areas and canal boundaries are available to prevent construction that reduces the canal's dimensions. The current condition of settlements does not comply with these regulations so that the lack of infiltration areas impacts the occurrence of floods. As well as a reduction in the dimensions of the channel due to development by the community. To overcome these problems, it is necessary to socialize the application of development rules in the study area to obtain a picture of the problem from the regulatory side. Meanwhile, from a technical point of view, this PKM reviews the condition of the channel and flood points, which is then outlined in a map of the channel and flood area on Jalan Akasia, Kesiman Village. In terms of regulations, socialization needs to be carried out so that people are aware of the importance of implementing KDB and channel boundaries in correlation to flood events.
