Abstract

Organic food waste accounts for the largest category of waste, comprising 40.8% according to data from the National Waste Management Information System (SIPSN). The high volume of this waste encourages alternatives for utilizing and processing household waste. One alternative method is producing an eco-enzyme, a liquid resulting from the fermentation of leftover fruits and vegetables. Its numerous uses and benefits have led to eco-enzyme development as an alternative method for processing household organic waste. To introduce this method, a Community Service (PKM) activity themed 'Development and Application of Eco Enzyme for Household Organic Waste Management' was conducted in the Kampung Lio area, Depok. This activity aims to enable the residents of Kampung Lio, Depok, to process their organic waste into eco enzyme and utilize it for various daily needs, such as floor cleaner, vegetable and fruit wash, insect repellent, plant fertilizer, disinfectant, laundry soap, bath soap, shampoo, toilet cleaner, and many other uses. After this activity, all participants started to implement their knowledge by processing their household organic waste into an eco enzyme because it has many benefits and simultaneously processed household waste.

Abstract

The lack of soap production capacity, which currently only reaches 5-10 liters of soap per production, has prompted a team of lecturers at the Manufacturing Engineering Applied Masters Study Program (MTRTM)-PNJ to take the initiative to organize and donate a soap mixing machine. The purpose of this implementation is to increase the amount of community soap production, as well as increase community knowledge and skills regarding soapmaking processes and tools. The training was carried out by delivering material on how to use and tricks for making soap with a mixer machine, which was then continued by making soap by PKK women and ending with a survey of the training implementation. From the results of the training, it was found that soap production increased to 20 liters in one production run, as well as an increase in community knowledge and skills in the process of making soap with a mixer machine.

Abstract

Indoor air quality (IAQ) plays a crucial role in the health and comfort of building occupants, where pollutants like formaldehyde can cause serious health issues. To reduce formaldehyde levels, photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) technology using titanium dioxide (TiO2) substrates has been shown to be effective. This study aims to optimize the PCO system design using TiO2-coated stainless steel mesh substrates in a honeycomb monolith reactor configuration to enhance formaldehyde degradation efficiency. Three variations of stainless steel mesh layers (5, 10, and 15 layers) were tested to evaluate their impact on formaldehyde (HCHO) concentration reduction. The results indicated that increasing the number of mesh layers significantly improved the formaldehyde degradation efficiency. The highest efficiency, 96.06%, was observed with 15 layers, compared to 74.67% with 5 layers and 83.19% with 10 layers. The increase in mesh layers enlarged the surface area of the substrate, enhancing the reaction area and interaction between pollutants and the photocatalyst. This study suggests using more than 10 layers of stainless steel mesh in the PCO system design to achieve optimal performance in formaldehyde pollutant reduction. The findings are expected to contribute significantly to improving indoor air quality, particularly in areas exposed to pollutants such as cigarette smoke.

Abstract

Farmers’ skills in maintaining water pumps remain limited, although these skills are essential for sustaining agricultural production. This study is presented as a pilot study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of participatory training in improving the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of water pump mechanics. The study involved nine mechanics under the guidance of UPTD ALSINTAN Dinas Pertanian Kabupaten Bandung, each representing one of nine affiliated areas. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test instruments with 20 items on a five-point Likert scale, analyzed descriptively without inferential statistics. The initial findings indicated an increase in the overall mean score from 3.55 to 4.78, with the largest improvements observed in skills (+46.27%) and knowledge (+39,83%). These results suggest improvements in competence, although they remain exploratory. The main limitations of this study are the small sample size and reliance on self-reported measures. Further studies with larger samples and stronger designs are recommended.

Abstract

The provision of food, the provision of energy and the provision of information are controlled to improve people's welfare. In 2011, national electricity production by PLN was 11% new and renewable energy. 6% PLTA and 5% PLTP. PLN plans Geothermal Energy to be 13% and Hydro Power Plant still 6%. The availability of PhHPP independently has been developed by many communities. PhHPP with a water wheel drive capacity of around 100 watts, just enough for home lighting. Even though the area's hydro energy potential is quite abundant. The developments that have been carried out have several weaknesses; The PhHPP with a plump turbine type requires a high head, which becomes an obstacle for agricultural irrigation, while PhHPP with a water wheel type has low efficiency. Research was conducted to develop PhHPP with a more efficient low head crossflow turbine type. Development of PhHPP with cross flow turbine type with actual energy potential, head 2 m and flow velocity 1 m/s. Development begins with numerical simulations to optimize the runner width and diameter ratio. Simulation results of the RNG k-ε model for a total inlet pressure of 20114 pascals and an outlet of 0 pascals, the optimum point is at the crossflow turbine runner diameter and turbine width ratio of 0.56.

Abstract

Polymer composites have experienced rapid development in recent decades due to their ability to integrate mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties tailored for specific applications. One of the major challenges in polymer development is improving electrical conductivity, as most polymers are inherently insulating. To address this, various conductive fillers such as carbon black, graphite, carbon nanotubes, and graphene have been utilized. This study investigates the effect of natural graphite loading on the electrical conductivity, microstructure, and porosity of virgin Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) composites. Composites containing 10%, 20%, and 30% graphite by weight were fabricated using the hot compaction method. Morphological analysis via Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) revealed that higher graphite content enhances filler connectivity, with the formation of conductive pathways beginning at 20% and a continuous network forming at 30%, despite some agglomeration and weak interfacial bonding. Density measurements and porosity analysis indicated that increasing graphite content leads to greater porosity, with the 30% composite reaching 19.68%. Electrical conductivity increased significantly with increasing graphite loading, exhibiting a transition from insulating to conductive behavior. The percolation threshold was identified at approximately 13.2 wt%, with conductivity rising from 0.00347 S/m at 10 wt% to 6.97 S/m at 30 wt%, consistent with classical percolation theory. These findings demonstrate that natural graphite is an effective conductive filler for PET-based composites and that its content must be optimized to balance conductivity with structural integrity.
