Abstract

Improving students’ literacy has drawn various scholars’ attention as technology advances. This systematic literature review aims at investigating and synthesizing how multimodal approach is applied in the teaching of storytelling to improving students’ literacy. This study focuses on several aspects of multimodal applied in storytelling, such as components, media, objectives, skills improved, linguistic theories, and the complexity of the applied approach across different level of education. There are 71 articles collected to make a synthesis of storytelling which are published in range of 2017 to 2023. The selected articles are then compressed to 33 for articles based on the criteria of inclusion and exclusion. The study finds that the use of multimodal literacies in different level of study vary in the modes and media. In early educations, multimodal storytelling approach uses simpler components like audio and visual components but less digital tools. In the primary to secondary education, the combination of audio, visual and digital tool is balanced, while in higher to university education, multimodal approach is more complex with the combination of digital storytelling with linguistic theories such as MDA, social semiotics, and structural semiotics. This study is expected to provide other researchers or teachers a guideline of designing multimodal approach in storytelling classroom more deeply. By categorizing multimodal storytelling practices across educational level, this study offers practical guidance for educators to tailor their approaches to students’ developmental needs in literacy skills through storytelling and the selection of appropriate tools and techniques for diverse educational needs.

Abstract

Penggunaan media ajar dapat meningkatkatkan keterlibatan dan pemahaman siswa dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar (KBM). Namun, tidak semua media ajar tersedia atau tidak mengikuti perkembangan materi. Dari hasil analisis kebutuhan yang dilakukan sebelum pengabdian di sekolah mitra, SD Santa Melania, Bandung, Jawa Barat, mitra mengalami keterbatasan media ajar dan kurangnya pendampingan dalam pengembangan media yang sesuai dengan perkembangan teknlogi. Tujuan Abdimas ini adalah untuk memberikan pendampingan kepada guru-guru SD Santa Melania dalam pengembangan media ajar berbasis multimodal untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan melalui interaksi, motivasi, dan kreativitas siswa dan guru. Pelatihan media berbasis multimodal mengaplikasikan teori Kress dan Lewin (2001) yang merujuk pada cara orang berkomunikasi menggunakan modes yang berbeda pada saat bersamaan. Pelatihan menggunakan pendekatan partisipasi aktif, orientasi kegiatan, pendekatan program, dan pendekatan kemandirian.  Pelatihan dilakukan dalam beberapa tahapan, yaitu (1) identifikasi karakter pelajar (sebagai acuan pengembangan media), (2) pengantar multimodal semiosis (eksposur pendekatan mutakhir yang bisa diterapkan dalam kelas), (3) pelatihan multimodal melalui pendekatan teknik mengajar, (4) brainstorming media melalui observasi kebutuhan siswa di kelas, (5) pelatihan STEAM, (6) pelatihan kreativitas multimodal, perancangan dan desain media.  Hasil dari pelatihan menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman guru dalam kombinasi media multimodal seperti audio dan visual dalam pembelajaran dan peningkatan kreativitas guru dalam mendesain media ajar seperti flashcards dan poster.

Abstract

Pengajaran mata pelajaran Agama Katolik di tingkat menengah seringkali dihadapi oleh tantangan untuk menjadikan pembelajaran yang menarik dan relevan bagi siswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatasi tantangan tersebut dengan menganalisis penerapan variasi media pembelajaran dan metode pengajaran yang inovatif terutama media ajar flashcards dalam pengajaran Agama Katolik di Biara Pratista Kumara Warabarata, OSC Sultan Agung Kota Bandung. Metode kualitatif dengan desain studi kasus digunakan untuk menggali pengalaman dan pandangan frater-frater pengajar serta siswa-siswa yang menjadi peserta pengajaran Agama Katolik di biara tersebut. Studi ini juga akan melibatkan program pelatihan bagi frater-frater pengajar untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mereka dalam menggunakan media dan metode pengajaran yang lebih interaktif. Hasil penelitian ditemukan bahwa dalam upaya meningkatkan pembelajaran mata pelajaran Agama Katolik di kalangan siswa tingkat menengah, penerapan media ajar berupa flashcards telah menjadi alternatif yang efektif. Metode pengajaran ini memanfaatkan kartu-kartu dengan informasi singkat, pertanyaan, kata kunci, atau gambar di satu sisi dan jawaban atau penjelasan di sisi lainnya. Dalam konteks pembelajaran Agama Katolik, penggunaan flashcards dapat memberikan sejumlah manfaat yang signifikan seperti membantu siswa memahami dan menginternalisasi nilai-nilai dan konsep agama dengan lebih baik, meningkatkan kemampuan hafalan ayat Kitab Suci, meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa, memberikan pengulangan yang efektif, memungkinkan pembelajaran mandiri, dan membuat pembelajaran lebih interaktif dan menyenangkan. Penelitian ini memiliki implikasi penting dalam mengembangkan pendidikan Agama Katolik yang lebih dinamis dan menarik bagi generasi siswa masa depan, serta merespons kekhawatiran masyarakat akan kurangnya minat siswa terhadap mata pelajaran ini dan dampaknya terhadap karakter siswa dan perkembangan mereka di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Pengabdian yang menyasar para seniman muda ini dimaksudkan untuk memperkuat landasan ideologis mereka dengan cara menanamkan Pancasila sebagai sebuah ideologi yang kokoh dalam bernegara. Penanaman ideologi ini dilakukan dengan tiga tema yang semuanya membentuk satu kesatuan: bagaimana prinsip Pancasila berperan dalam mengobati luka sejarah, bagaimana menerapkan gagasan besar Pancasila dalam kehidupan sehari-hari lewat aktivitas yang berdampak pada masyarakat luas, dan terakhir bagaimana Pancasila dapat kita pergunakan untuk menafsirkan ulang makna kepahlawanan. Ketiga tema tersebut diberikan lewat seminar daring (webinar) yang dilakukan dengan cara mengundang ketua-ketua komunitas seniman muda atau perwakilannya. Kegiatan yang berlangsung dari bulan September hingga November 2020 ini melibatkan lima orang pakar, tiga orang dari Fakultas Seni Rupa dan Desain Institut Teknologi Bandung (FSRD-ITB), satu orang dari galeri seni WOT BATU, dan satu orang dari Institut Seni Indonesia Padangpanjang (ISI Padangpanjang). Dari pengabdian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa para seniman yang aktif di dunia seni di Indonesia memiliki kepedulian yang mendalam tentang urgensi Pancasila dalam kaitannya dengan rasa nasionalisme bangsa ini. Dengan kata lain, integrasi Pancasila bukan hanya sebuah kewajaran, melainkan sebuah keharusan.

Abstract

Metaphor is one of interesting objects to be research for its rich cognition and use. This study aims at investigating the conceptualization of heart metaphors and to describe the image schemas of heart metaphors. The data of the study were collected from Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) which provides significant data relevant to the study. This is a literature study using a qualitative descriptive study through the framework of the Conceptual Metaphor Theory (CMT) proposed by Lakoff and Johnson. After the selection of metaphorical expressions of heart, the analysis was conducted to categorize the conceptual metaphor of each selected data. The image schemas were then drawn in accordance to the concept given. The study found that people mainly use metaphors to state these three types of concepts of heart metaphors, they are; HEART IS A CONTAINER, HEART IS AN OBJECT, and HEART IS HUMAN/BEING. These main concepts were then elaborated into several smaller categorizations. There are three image schemas drawn in accordance to the types of the conceptual metaphors like containment schema, compulsion schema, and removal of restraint schema. Then, image schemas are helpful to draw the mapping of abstract thing of target domain into more concrete thing of target domain.

Abstract

The digital media that is currently developing makes human activities centered around digital media. However, there are various negative impacts of digital media that are detrimental to humans, such as being affected by inaccurate information (hoax). The purpose of this study was to determine the readiness of Unpar students in facing the development of digitalization to avoid confusion and the spread of hoaxes in digital media. This study uses quantitative methods, data collection is carried out by conducting a survey via google form to Parahyangan Catholic University students from all generations and faculties with 80 respondents. Based on the results of the survey and discussion of the survey, it shows that the majority of Unpar students have received hoax news through digital media, particularly across group chats and social media like Instagram and Facebook. According to most Unpar students, the factors that cause the number of hoaxes circulating in digital media are the public's tendency to easily believe in new information or news and the lack of public digital literacy. As well as effective efforts to minimize hoax news circulating in digital media is to increase people's digital literacy through educational institutions such as schools, universities, and other educational institutions. In addition, preventive steps that can be taken so as not to be easily consumed by hoaxes are critical in receiving information and not easily believing in news that is not yet known to be true.

Abstract

Metaphorical expressions carry layered meanings and serve a range of persuasive functions, especially within the political sphere. Their strategic use often aims to influence public perception and reinforce a speaker’s credibility. Donald Trump’s presidential campaign speeches during the 2016–2017 U.S. election cycle offer a compelling corpus for examining such rhetorical choices. This study analyzes the metaphors in these speeches by categorizing them into three types: structural, ontological, and orientational metaphors. Using a qualitative descriptive design grounded in cognitive metaphor theory, the analysis draws on Lakoff and Johnson’s Metaphors We Live By (1980). Operating within a post-positivist paradigm, the researcher serves as the primary instrument in interpreting the data. The findings show that structural metaphors allow Trump to frame abstract ideas through more concrete conceptual structures; ontological metaphors provide moderate conceptual grounding by attributing entity-like qualities to abstract phenomena; and orientational metaphors offer minimal conceptual structure while shaping spatial or directional understandings. Across these categories, Trump’s metaphors function to evoke emotion, shape audience perception, and construct a particular persona. Taken together, the metaphors project a worldview centered on resilience, national pride, and assertive leadership—features that contributed to the persuasive force of his political messaging.
